STAR COMMAND IS COMING TO PC AND MAC
We need your help to ensure Star Command is available on more than just those teeny-tiny mobile devices. After our mobile launch we want to build an ultimate, face-melting, planet-destroying desktop version of the game.
Does Star Command sound familiar? Good - thats because we have previously run a Kickstarter (to great success).
But now we want to create set our sights on a whole new version of the game for PC and MAC.
ABOUT THE GAME
Star Command is an upcoming space ship-simulation-adventure game where you build an interstellar starship of your own unique image. You choose the colors, the hull types, the size and most importantly, who and what goes inside. Engine rooms, medical bays, shield generators - the choice is yours.
After you build your vessel, you will search the galaxy for talented crew to hire and help on your voyage. You will level-up crew members, give them new ranks and powerful abilities like tactical grenades to obliterate invaders, deployable shield walls to defend from incoming laser basts, or even the ability to revive slowly-dying crew members.
Once your awesome ship and elite crew are assembled, you will hyper-speed to new and strange places throughout the galaxy, making contact with exotic alien lifeforms. Some will be friendly, some weird and bizarre, and some will be downright evil.
Inevitably you will be forced to defend your ship from hostile forces. Firing critical plasma torpedoes to drop the enemy shields, repairing hull-breaches sucking crew into the vacuum of space, putting out burning fires, repelling invaders beaming onto your vessel. You will have to make quick and decisive decisions to ultimately decide who lives and who dies.
Along the way you can research strange and exotic technologies, upgrade your rooms to make them even more powerful and even find cute and cuddly animals to bring aboard for space pets! The choice is yours.
FACE MELTING 2.0
The original Kickstarter support transformed an ambitious blueprint into a 95% complete, planet-destroying battle-cruiser you saw in the video. Your support has gotten us to the moon and we are 95% of the way home. But the extra resources would allow us a solid landing and an even more ambitious return-flight.
Additional features and polish would be implemented for the mobile version in these last critical moments before mobile-launch. We will then take that shiny mobile version of Star Command and using your generous donation - pump it full of plasmatic, alien-killing, desktop awesomeness not seen since the Antorian fleet was decimated over Galactus 7 (ie: pretty damned awesome).
High-resolution UI, surround sound, mouse/keyboard input, increased processing power, and enormous storage space would all be unleashed in a super-nova explosion maelstrom to create the most complete and ultimate version of Star Command.
We need you. Your our only hope of doing this successfully and independently.
WE WANT TO REMAIN INDEPENDENT
So if we have already done a successful Kickstarter, why the hell do we need to do another one? Well, we're bringing the game to PC and Mac. After numerous requests, we want to make a version for our desktop fans, but for that we need another team. Warballoon consists of two designers/art directors/hacks and one talented developer - and to make a desktop version of the game we need more developers and possibly artists.
The publisher route would be the easiest - we would have access to lots of resources, funds and marketing. And we have had many conversations with publishers over the course of our development, and we don't like the prospects. We really emulate Valve, our heroes, and they were smart enough to stay independent and keep their games theirs so they could make them on their own terms. So that's where the kickstarter community comes in to save us yet again.
Build your ship, hire your crew, explore the universe and defend your starship - this is Star Command, and with your help it will be out on PC/Mac as well and on our own terms.
MOD SUPPORT IF WE HIT $125k
THE MAKING OF STAR COMMAND DIGITAL BOOK
THE JOY OF PIXEL ART INSTRUCTIONAL VIDEOS
All supporters will get an original Star Command e-book.
We will be uploading more fun backgrounds for your various devices as we go.
The final soundtrack will feature over 30 minutes of music. Here are three samples:
YOUR OWN SPECIES
We are going to hire additional developer(s) and artist(s) to help us with the last stage of mobile, and more importantly work on the PC/MAC version.
And hookers and blow (but you already knew that).
The mobile version (iOS, Android) is on track for Late Summer. The PC/Mac release will be POST LAUNCH after the dust settles on the mobile version.
Shirts and posters will be sent out as soon as the kickstarter is over. We are using a fulfillment house so we don't have to take away time from the game. And they are faster than us at boxing 2000 shirts. The ebook will be sent when done. Soundtrack around August.
Either through Steam or Desura. We will invite our kickstarters when we get closer launch.
Star command is a very ambitious game - so adding more content is ALWAYS a great place to start.
More rooms, more aliens, more ship layouts, more crew haircuts, more skills, more dog poop.
Beyond that we plan on launching DLC's - and obviously these are free to you peeps.
Users who pledge at least 25$ will be sent a Steam or Desura code for a free download of the game!
See that? - an exclamation point - we mean business!!!
This is for PC/Mac releases. This is not because we don't love linux, it's just that we already have our hands full putting this together for iOS, Android and now desktops. Linux may come further down the line - we hear you Linux users!
YES! but why? Well you're already getting the PC and the ebook - but we have a new shirt!
Beyond that - you can help by telling your friends and colleagues about the project - or liking us on facebook.
But since you did support us - look at how far we've come! You have earned a little bit of sit back and relax time.
That is the goal. There are some potential problems, but the ultimate goal is that you can play on the bus, sit at work and waste valuable corporate time, pull that ipad out and pretend to be taking notes, then hop back on your iphone all while playing the same game.
Yes - it will have a new UI, better sound, more FX, and some additional features to capitalize on the much more powerful desktop system. Furthermore, the PC/MAC version will most likely have missions, aliens, ships and planets that are exclusive for some time to that version (these may eventually get re-converted into the mobile game as well so you can play the same save-game between them).
Regardless- think of the PC/MAC as the ultimate version.
This kickstarter is for the PC/MAC version only.
However, since the save files are planned to be backwards compatible the unique room and unique dog will be available if you do purchase the mobile version and import your PC/MAC save game to it.
