A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:
Proof of Concept
Explorations that test ideas and functionality.
Demonstrates the functionality of the final product, but looks different.
Looks like the final product, but is not functional.
Appearance and function match the final product, but is made with different manufacturing methods.
Appearance, function, and manufacturing methods match the final product.
Did you know that you can look up your astrological birth chart (a map showing the position of the planets in their journey around the sun at the time when you were born)?
Have you ever looked up your own astrological chart (your natal chart) to better understand yourself?
Have you ever compared your own chart to someone else's -- your partner, your date for the night, your mom -- to better understand your relationship with that person?
Have you ever wished you could find and connect with people who are astrologically destined to be similar to you (your astro twin), or who could be star-aligned love matches, friends, or collaborators?
Well then star friends, we've got a story for you.
A Starcatcher Was Born
One day not long ago, Starcatcher Co-Founder Rose was on her way to a cosmic meditation class when she bumped into future Co-Founder DeYandre on her way to an app development class. Synchronicity alert! Rose noted this as she settled into class.
Minutes later, after learning about planetary happenings, Rose was guided into a meditation and asked to think about the star she was from - her unique star. While in full-on trance state (i.e. heavily meditated), Rose started to wonder...
Does anyone out there come from the same star as me, with the same astrological background and natal chart? A.K.A. my astro twin?
Does that person (or do those people) have a life path that's been similar to my own? What could we learn from each other?
Is there some way to connect with that person or those people?! And is there a way for people to find and connect with potential love matches, friends, and collaborators based on natal chart?(!?!?!?!?!)
Rose woke up from that meditation with tears streaming down her face. She knew she had to build a way for people to connect with one another based on personal astrology. So she immediately called DeYandre (remember: synchronicity alert!), and her astrologer friend and future Co-Founder, Whit.
Now, for the past several weeks, Rose, DeYandre and Whit (biz title: 3 of Cups), have been working on an astrology-based social networking app called Starcatcher. It will be easy to use, educational (all levels of interest supported, and for starters will focus on Western astrology. We plan on incorporating Jyotish (Vedic) and Chinese zodiacal systems eventually as well!
This initial raise will help us build Starcatcher's fledgling community, validate the community's need for this app, complete backend research and development, solidify personal natal chart framework and content, and develop functionality for users to connect with their astrological twins.
Future raises will enable the use of Starcatcher as an astrological dating app, friendship finder, etc. Beyond our initial $5,000 raise, we'll build out the functionality and content for all of the above.
The more money we raise now, the sooner we'll be able to deliver on the many, many ways we can connect to one another based on our unique star design.
Projects of Earth
We're beyond thrilled to participate in Kickstarter's Projects of Earth initiative. Inspired by the 40 year anniversary of the Voyager Golden Record (a recording of earthy sights and sounds intended to illustrate "diversity of life and culture on Earth" to life on other planets) aboard NASA'S Voyager I space probe, the initiative aims to answer the question: what does it mean to be human in 2017?
We think humans can use Starcatcher to uncover that answer to the fullest.
It was, after all, Carl Sagan -- the co-curator of the Voyager Golden Record around which the initiative is based -- who said "We are made of star-stuff. Our bodies are made of star-stuff. There are pieces of star within us all." (Fact: we were this close to naming Starcatcher "Starstuff"... but it already belonged to a video game.) What's more, Starcatcher was conceptualized around the idea of discovering people whose stars and planets align with your own.
Further influenced by the idea that the Golden Record included greetings from 55 languages from across the globe, we're choosing to "welcome strangers into our world" with the language of astrology. By teaching astrological literacy, Starcatcher provides humans with a framework for communication and understanding. We believe that it is within the movements of the stars that we can look to find a map of ourselves, one that unifies all humans. So once we find this map and learn how we relate to another in this way, a beautiful thing happens: strangers become connections.
We're all made of star-stuff. Now, let's connect!
Risks and challenges
Bolstered by the support of an app development and design community, and in close contact with well-known astrologers (and in Whit's case, the cosmos themselves!), the Starcatcher Co-Founders are fully confident they'll be able to build the app and Starcatcher community of their dreams.
However, they are just three (community-oriented, well-connected) kids looking for meaningful cosmic relationships, and they fully anticipate road blocks.
As stated,This initial raise will help us build Starcatcher's fledgling community, validate the community's need for this app, complete backend research and development, solidify personal natal chart framework and content, and develop functionality for users to connect with their astrological twins. The initial $5,000 will not get us as far as enabling the use of Starcatcher as an astrological dating app, friendship finder, etc. Beyond our initial $5,000 raise, we'll build out the functionality and content for all of the above.
* First and foremost, we need a Starcatcher community to participate by entering their birth chart information for this app to work. We are currently building out that community and will continue to do so throughout this raise and beyond.
* We are still in the process of validating this community need for Starcatcher. It's possible that no one else is as invested in connecting with others based on personal astrology as the 3 of Cups crew. We believe with all of our might, however, that that is not the case. We would love your feedback!
* We need to build out a LOT a lot of astrological content (cosmic copy, star-aligned design) for this app to be as personally relevant for each individual as we envision. This will involve paid partnerships and framework that we do not, as of yet, have access to or fully grasp -- and our initial raise may not get us as far as we plan. Backers will be fully informed every step of the way so that we can make Starcatcher happen no matter what.
Join the Starcatcher community by providing your birth data, and get access to the first beta builds of Starcatcher for iOS, well before the app is available to the public on the App Store. Your feedback will help improve Starcatcher for everyone else, and you'll continue to get free beta updates with previews of new features for a full year after the Kickstarter campaign ends.
Receive an archival inkjet print featuring the twelve Starcatcher Zodiac beings, the app story and a full list of resources we amassed in creating Starcatcher. And, of course, provide your birth data to join the Starcatcher community.
An audio recording of your personalized reading of your natal chart as well as a public thank you and everything below this reward level. And, of course, provide your birth data to join the Starcatcher community.
