About this project
Kickstart the ultra slim, ultra light and ultra slick brushed aluminium phone and tablet stand for Android and Apple.
These days, you can carry the whole world in your pocket. But try watching something on your mobile device without holding it. Go on, try now. Lean it, balance it, wedge it. Nope? Those slippery blighters just won’t stand up. So there it lies, flat on the table, projecting its wonders towards your ceiling.
Now imagine taking from your wallet an ultra thin, ultra tough device, which let’s your mobile or tablet stand on its own two feet. Imagine no longer, oh brave new world.
Discover the Standeazy Ultra.
Designed and made in Britain.
The Standeazy Ultra is manufactured from a premium quality laminate of brushed aluminium and polypropylene, and easily folds into a 3D stand for virtually all smartphones, e-readers and most tablets, too.
It can be adjusted to hold your device at a variety of angles in both landscape or portrait depending on what you prefer for each app.
To give your phone or tablet a safe place to rest, the Standeazy Ultra has pleasingly smooth rounded edges, giving it an extra luxurious feel. It really is beautifully finished, just as slick as the slickest electronic device in your collection.
You'll want to stroke it, own it or buy it for your loved ones. It's a perfect stocking filler or little thank you gift – easy to post in an envelope. It’s just one of those simple ideas that really works and actually solves a problem.
The Standeazy Ultra has a variety of settings to make it super versatile for both Apple and Android phones and tablets.
The polymer version of Standeazy has been around for a few years now and is not just a concept, but a tested and proven product our customers love and use every day – at home, at work and of course when travelling. That's why we feel the Ultra will be a great addition to your travel and home accessories – and with your help we can bring it to market at an affordable price whilst producing it locally.
One of our highlights was being selected by the the Gadget Show on Channel 5 as the product of choice for holding the iPhone 6 and the HTC smartphone in an Android vs Apple comparison feature.
Here are some of the reviews we've had for our original Standeazy, the polymer version, on Amazon. We thought we'd share this because it has the same mechanism, but the Ultra is obviously stronger and can hold even more devices...
And some reviews from the tech press...
Back in 2009, John and Steven Wilber (father and son) designed and engineered a credit card sized stand – and after many iterations of mechanisms, materials and finishes, the first Standeazy was born in the form of a polypropylene design with two unique hind legs for extra stability.
This created the basis for the Standeazy you see today. The next few years saw various improvements to the design and material of Standeazy and we patented the initial and follow-on designs. In 2014 we launched the second generation polymer model that is available in selected shops. Our ambition has always been to create an extra versatile version for heavier or larger devices whilst keeping Standeazy small enough to fit in a wallet. That's why we started work on the prototypes for a metal version, the Standeazy Ultra.
Our Kickstarter Live Cast
A note on the time line. You may think 'what's taken them so long to launch this'... but since the conception of the idea of a metal phone stand, we scrutinised every little element of the design and later the production method to find the perfect combination of design, functionality and cost. We worked with 3D printers on the hinges and looked at various ways to use progressive tooling for the production. These things take time...
We are proud to work with local manufacturers, which means the Standeazy is truly designed and made in Britain.
With your support we can produce the Standeazy Ultra at a price that's affordable for every smartphone owner.
It's fantastic to have you be part of our journey! Thank you...

Risks and challenges
As can be seen from several of the photographs in this project presentation, we have created prototypes of the Standeazy Ultra and developed its design to the point where we are now very happy with it, both in terms of functionality and appearance.
Our problem is simply that the method of production for the prototypes that we presently use is very labour intensive and hence is an expensive process which results in an unnecessarily high cost for the final product. Another element of the cost is the low quantity charge for the specialist laminate we use. Larger volumes will add savings by purchasing directly from the manufacturer.
John, our head of product development, is a professional manufacturing engineer and has worked extensively in previous projects with a colleague at a press tool company. A method of production has now been devised in conjunction with this company that will reduce the cost of manufacture significantly.
We have minimised the risks by thoroughly investigating potential manufacturing problems while developing the prototypes and we are working closely with our local partners to create the Standeazy Ultra with modern tooling designed for mass production.
