About

We started Standard Fair to create products we wanted to wear but couldn't find. Handcrafted styles for the modern wardrobe. Products with clean, minimal design that are true investment pieces made to last many years, not just a season. Products with integrity that are made the right way - with premium, ethically sourced materials handcrafted in fair working conditions. We're building that vision from the ground up - with a sneaker that's like nothing else out there.
Over the past two years, we've researched, designed, and refined our way to Standard Fair's spin on iconic footwear styles. We call it the Sport Camp. A hybrid sneaker that combines the best of modern design, premium materials, and traditional construction methods. One of the world's only resoleable sneakers, the Sport Camp embodies our dedication to quality and longevity. Each pair is made by skilled artisans in Maine, USA.
We stand behind the quality of our sneaker. To prove it, we're offering every Kickstarter backer who purchases a pair of Sport Camps a free resole, should they ever need it.
To commemorate the launch of the Sport Camp, we created a set of limited-edition, complementary accessories: the Minimalist Belt and the Vertical Card Case.

To create a timeless design, we found inspiration in iconic American and German athletic footwear from the 1980s and 1970s. To achieve durability, we put our full-grain Italian vegetable-tanned upper on the classic New England camp-moc outsole (otherwise known as the “camp sole”). The result is a unique footwear hybrid—one of the world’s few resoleable sneakers. The Sport Camp features a slim and striking low-profile silhouette that stands out in a sea of trendy sameness dominating men’s footwear today: endless variations on the tennis shoe silhouette, built on thick soles that can't be replaced.

Unlocked at $40k - Black Colorway Released

The black colorway features black vegetable-tanned leather uppers from our Italian tannery, black leather lining, black leather laces, and a black camp sole. Already backed the Kickstarter? Don’t worry, this colorway is available to all backers as a color choice if we hit the $40k mark.
Please note, the photo is a rendering of the black colorway.

The Sport Camp is built on the classic New England camp sole, an outsole steeped in American footwear history. This design was first popularized in 1936 by Leon Leanwood Bean, founder of L.L. Bean.
Our camp sole is made by one of the remaining suppliers of traditional camp soles. It features the classic pebbled texture for traction and a recessed center plug to keep it lightweight and flexible.

Vegetable-tanned leather is natural, long-lasting, and beautiful. It’s made using a traditional tanning method that has been employed for centuries. Few tanneries use this tanning process as it is more time consuming and expensive versus the chemically-based chrome tanning process, which is how most of the world’s leather is made today.
We began Standard Fair with the goal of creating modern footwear styles that can last for years. After identifying a construction method for our designs, we needed to find an upper material that could live up to our standards for longevity and sustainability. Enter vegetable-tanned leather.
Just like our slow, careful manufacturing methods, we think the vegetable tanning process is worth the wait. Each piece of leather is unique and will age beautifully overtime—developing a patina that is distinctly your own.
We selected Honey and Chestnut as our leather colors for launch since these natural tones best show the beauty of this material.

Our limited-edition accessories are the perfect complement to the Sport Camp. To create these accessories, we partnered with a factory in California, run by a group of artisans with decades of experience handcrafting leather goods.

Limited-edition belt available at discounted prices for our earliest supporters. Made with our full-grain Italian vegetable-tanned leather, the Minimalist Belt pairs perfectly with the Sport Camp colors and is designed to last for years. The belt will age beautifully over time and develop a patina unique to your wear. The unique Conway buckle design creates a clean, custom-made look.
These leather colors in this design will never be reissued after our limited production run. Get yours while you can.

It takes three simple steps to wear your Minimalist Belt and have a belt that looks like it was custom-made just for you.

Limited-edition card case available for our earliest supporters. The Vertical Card Case features three vertical card slots to reduce stretching and a center pouch for additional cards and/or currency. One divot slot allows easy access for your most used cards. One contrast color slot adds a subtle uniqueness.

Premium products deserve premium care. From all-natural leather cream to basic and premium resoles, we’ve made it easy for our supporters to take care of their Standard Fair goods.

We partnered with a family-owned and operated leather care manufacturer on an all-natural leather cream that's suitable for use on our Italian vegetable-tanned leather.
We're including a 1-ounce tin with every Sport Camp purchase and a 4-ounce tin with all purchases of our Kickstarter-exclusive packages. A 4-ounce tin of this cream will retail for $24.

The Basic Resole is a resole of your shoes and is included with every purchase of the Sport Camps. Get peace of mind knowing you’ll be covered when your shoes are ready to be resoled. This is a Kickstarter-exclusive for our backers. The future retail price of a basic resole will be $65.

The Premium Resole Add-On includes a resole of your shoes as well as a cleaning and refinishing of the uppers. The Premium Resole is included in our Premium Packages. For any pair of Sport Camps, you can also purchase a Premium Resole Add-On for $25 and save $65 off future retail. Truly breathe new life into your worn Sport Camps.
Please note: you will have to manually add $25 to your pledge amount for a Sport Camp to receive Premium Resole Add-On.
For example, if you want to get a Premium Resole Add-On for a pair of Sport Camps at Super Early Bird pricing, you should select the Sport Camp Super Early Bird reward of $295 and revise the pledge amount to $320. We will know from your pledge amount that you wanted a Premium Resole Add-On.

Get Kickstarter exclusive packages that offer discounts below our Super Early Bird pricing. Mix and match colors and styles to get your custom Standard Fair package. Please note that the number of packages available at each pricing tier is limited.

As a special thank you, we’re offering a limited number of supporters an opportunity to enter our world and create your own individualized, custom Sport Camps. We’ll give you full design creativity—the ability to select from over 50 natural vegetable-tanned leather colors (including Black, Navy, and Grey among many others) and over 10 sole colors from our sole supplier to create your own custom Sport Camps. As industry and business insiders, we've seen how the push towards cheap, disposable fast fashion has created a world of constant demands and endless, pointless product newness; contributing to global waste and degraded supply chains. We know the global supply chains of big brands are hidden from the consumer. Being transparent about our own is important to us.
Our makers are among the world's best. From our tannery in Tuscany, Italy to our factories in Maine and California, we're proud of our ethical supply chain.

Risks and challenges
While we have experience working for major fashion brands and have helped turn ideas into viable products, we are beginners on Kickstarter. We understand coordinating a global supply chain and working with multiple manufacturers is complex. However, we have anticipated and planned for potential risks, building a solid production and delivery plan. Our material suppliers and manufacturing partners have given us their full support on this project. Our backers can rest assured, if anything unforeseen happens, we will prioritize quality over speed.
If you live outside of the United States, please be aware you will be responsible for any applicable duty/VAT charges.
Please be aware that unforeseen issues or delays may occur during shipping and/or custom processes. We will do everything we can to eliminate such risks and will be using a reputable fulfillment partner and courier services.
We will update our community of supporters frequently on our progress. If any hiccups occur, we’ll be sure to let you know.
