Carmageddon: Reincarnation is a brand new points-for-pedestrians driving game from the indie dev team behind the smash hit PC original.

I'M AGOG!!

Today’s update is all about GOG and the fantastic new Reward we’re announcing. The great guys at GOG have teamed up with us, and are offering vouchers to download the original Carmageddon and The Splat Pack add-on FREE from GOG.com for everyone who pledges $25 or more to our Kickstarter campaign!

Those of you on the $15 tier – if you join us on the early Beta by increasing your pledge to $25, you’ll get the GOG game to practice on in the meantime!

We think this is something to REALLY shout... Or, even better... SING about!

Here’s the OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE announcing the deal:

Stainless Turbocharges Their Kickstarter Campaign with GOG.com

Original game from the acclaimed series coming soon to GOG.com; free copies to be given to all backers who pledge $25 and above towards Carmageddon: Reincarnation.

Southern England, UK 25th May 2012.

Stainless Games today announced a partnership with digital distributor GOG.com. Together they are pleased to announce the return to Windows PC of the original “Points for Pedestrians” driving game ‘Carmageddon’ (plus its add-on pack, ‘The Splat Pack’) in the near future, As part of Stainless Games’ Kickstarter campaign to fund an all-new sequel, Carmageddon: Reincarnation, GOG.com and Stainless Games will be providing a free copy of Carmageddon and the expansion to all backers who pledge $25 and above towards the making of Reincarnation.

Neil Barnden, Stainless co-founder and Executive Director on Carmageddon: Reincarnation said, “Since we got the rights to Carmageddon back, we’ve been hearing from the community how much they’d love to be able to play the original games again, on a modern Windows PC. We’ve been hearing this message even louder since launching our Kickstarter campaign to help fund our next title in the series, Carmageddon: Reincarnation. The message from the gaming community is loud and clear: Give us something to play, while we wait for the new Carmageddon!  So, that’s exactly what we’ve done.”

Trevor Longino, Head of Marketing and PR at GOG.com, said, “Many of us at GOG.com are big fans of the Carmageddon franchise, and the Carmageddon games are perfect examples of the kind of classic games that we love to bring to our gamers: great gameplay, tons of fun, and a unique experience. Being able to help support the developers by providing backers with copies of this classic game was just icing on the cake for us”. Carmageddon is currently undergoing preparation at the hands of GOG.com's expert contentologists, and will be added to the catalog as soon as possible.

Patrick Buckland, Stainless CEO added, “Thanks to our friends at GOG.com, the streets of Bleak City will once again echo to the screams of little old ladies shrieking, “I was in the war!” as they (and their walking frames) go sailing through the air.”

The free download vouchers will be available as part of the Rewards package to all backers who pledge $25 or more on the Kickstarter campaign page for Carmageddon; Reincarnation. Backers will be able to download their free copy of Carmageddon & The Splat Pack, as soon as they launch on GOG.com later in the year.

The campaign smashed through the 50% funding barrier in under a week – with over 9000 fans already supporting the effort to reincarnate this classic!

Carmageddon was originally released in 1997, and pioneered the concept of drive anywhere, “play the way you want to play” gaming. It was both celebrated and controversial in equal measure, winning awards while gaining notoriety as the poster child for everything that’s wrong – and therefore right – in videogames.

However, new machines and operating system make it difficult to play the old game on current PCs without engaging in complex technical shenanigans involving wrappers and patches, curses and prayer. This is where GOG come in, as they specialize in creating and selling ‘remastered’ versions of classic PC games, so they work ‘out-of-the-box’ on current generation PCs.

For non-Kickstarter fans, the Carmageddon 1 (plus Splat Pack) will be available to buy and download as a single package for $9.99 from GOG.com sometime soon.

'Carmageddon: Reincarnation' is being developed for digital download, for which Stainless Games have built an enviable worldwide reputation, with numerous cross-platform releases and multiple No.1 titles on XBLA.

GOG will make sure it will work for our computers. If they managed to get the "hard to run on new PCs" Outcast to run. Carma 1 will be a piece of cake for them.

    2. Creator Leshy on May 27, 2012

The trolololol song MUST be in the Carmageddon game :D Just image it :P

    3. Creator A.A. on May 26, 2012

Can't wait to play the original again! This really boosted the backers :P

    4. Creator charles urban on May 26, 2012

I am SO THRILLED to be a part of this! I LOVE Carmageddon and owned it back in the "Olden Days" I played it every day! Was very sad to have to throw it out after PC's got too fast for the software. THANKS TO EVERYONE!!

    5. Creator Robert on May 26, 2012

Adding Carmageddon 2 to GOG or as reward might be complicated since that game used music tracks by Iron Maiden. So they probably need permission of Iron Maiden first to "release" that game.

    6. Creator VaKU on May 26, 2012

Software render isn't that bad with "-hires" command line switch :)

    7. Creator Tarmo Annus on May 26, 2012

      * Will it have 3dfx (glide) or software version of the graphics?
      * Any plans to also release Carmageddon 2 on GOG.com?

    8. Creator Lord Jason Mackay on May 25, 2012

Wow Sim, Baby got the moves :-) You dancin'? 'cause I'm askin' :-)

      Keep having fun

    9. Creator Tim Johnson on May 25, 2012

Joker: It will be $9.99 through GoG.

    10. Creator Tim Johnson on May 25, 2012

Very very nice. I already am giving you guys $150 and now I'm questioning if I've thanked you enough.

    11. Creator Bruno V. on May 25, 2012

@Joker You could have kept your old PC if you wanted to keep playing old games on it.
And for those 25$ you also get a brand new game

    12. Creator JokerGermany.de.vu on May 25, 2012

What a cruel world. I have to spend 25$ to get my 15 year old copy working on my new PC?
I paid already for it -__-

    13. Creator Félix Medrano on May 25, 2012

Have you considered releasing the source code? Many titles in gog.com already did it with good results. You can attract modders and allow the game to be ported to other platforms. This means more fun for us and more sales for you.

    14. Creator TwIsTeDMiNd on May 25, 2012

Do we'll be able to play them in Full HD 1920x1080p ?

    15. Creator Ryan Saindon on May 25, 2012

      Just upgraded to get this!

    16. Creator Dirk Schlobinski on May 25, 2012

You guys have got the funniest kickstarter campaign, that I've ever been a backer of. Keep it coming ^^
Also I really like gog.com and think that was a good idea. So tempting.

    17. Creator Jimday on May 25, 2012

      neat, already upgraded my pledge!!!

    18. Creator Chris Hoy on May 25, 2012

I don't suppose you guys at Stainless know whether the GOG team will try and get the 3DFx glide version of Carma working on modern systems do you? Or are they just getting the software rendering version up and running?

    19. Creator Caoimhe Saru on May 25, 2012

      Carmageddon 2? :)

    20. Creator Vanish on May 25, 2012

    23. Creator Piotr Stolarczyk on May 25, 2012

what about Carmageddon II: Carpocalypse Now??? That one was pretty awesome to :)

    24. Creator James McKendrew on May 25, 2012

Do you people realize that JUST YESTERDAY, I was checking GOG to see if the old Carmageddon games were there? YESTERDAY! Last night! Like, less than 8 hours before this update came out. And I was all sad, 'cause they weren't there. You people are psychic (as well as pyschotic, obviously).

    25. Creator Belcaw on May 25, 2012

This is exactly what I've been looking for. I've been bugging GOG to add Carmageddon to their lineup for what seems like years. You can count on me bumping up my pledge for sure.

    26. Creator shorty42 on May 25, 2012

Put up my pledge for this awesome GOG reward. Thanks :)

    27. Creator Megazver on May 25, 2012

      Clever.

      Upgraded.

    28. Creator Rodrigo Fernandez on May 25, 2012

      Upgrading pledge RIGHT NOW!

    29. Creator ishinken on May 25, 2012

Amazing! I get the new carmageddon + the two awesome prequals for only 25$? I feel spoiled now! You convinced me to pledge another 10$ into this project! Only about 50k$ more to go!!!

    30. Creator bEn on May 25, 2012

Upgraded just because back in the day I played a copied version of Carmaggedon (... because the German version was censored so badly that it wasn't even the same game)

    31. Creator Ryan Seney on May 25, 2012

Would love to see Carma 2 get GOG'd as well. Make sure they put the "Hat Guy" fix in the Splat Pack :)

    32. Creator Ryan Seney on May 25, 2012

Would love to see Carma 2 get GOG'd as well. Make sure they put the "Hat Guy" fix in the Splat Pack :)

    33. Creator Eric Wood on May 25, 2012

No MAC compatability for Carma Max pack ;(. But I'm guessing it will run through Fusion since the performance requirements probably aren't that high?

    34. Creator mtrx on May 25, 2012

How about Carma 2 for $50 pledge? :)

    35. Creator BFishY on May 25, 2012

Oh damn I thought this WAS Carma 2... :(

    36. Creator BFishY on May 25, 2012

Oh stop it. You guys spoil us :D

    37. Creator Michael Dabrowski on May 25, 2012

OK, I upgraded to $25 pledge. I just couldn't resist. Please, don't make any more awesome updates because I really can't spend more than this:P But if you do, please make Carmageddon 2 available on GOG as well;)

    38. Creator tarasis on May 25, 2012

Btw I love Sim doing updates, nice to hear a northern lass. Plus why isn't that song our Eurovision Song Contest entry? We'd (UK) be sure to win!

    39. Creator SXX on May 25, 2012

      @Joe Haman
As I know you can download game from GOG as much times as you need, because these versions are 100% DRM-free, so it's will be same if you even download it from torrent.

    40. Creator tarasis on May 25, 2012

*sigh* damn you, you've managed to get me on board as a backer. Was holding off as I have a horrible backlog of games but the GOG deal has sweetend the deal enough.

Its awesome that GOG have agreed to give these licenses for free they really seem to be great lads and lasses (look at how they handled the Botanical pre-order / Humble Bundle mess), what are they getting out of it though? Will they be a seller for the finished C:R game?

Actually thinking about it, this is me making up for playing a little of a pirated Carmaggedon many moons ago. If it does come out on Mac I'll be happy, I do use Bootcamp but sometimes it's just a pain to restart. (oh let's have a quick blast of X, close apps, open preferences , set boot disk, restart, boot Windows, wait for finish loading, start X, play x, close game, restart in Mac OSX, wait for finish loading if apps restart as where wait for those to start up)

    41. Creator Joe Haman on May 25, 2012

A question for anyone who uses GOG.com (and Steam for that matter):
When I have a log-in with the site, can I download the game more than once? For say, when I one day buy a new PC or if all my files go kaput?

    42. Creator Mxo on May 25, 2012

Any chance they'll make a mac version on GOG? I got a pc too, but it would be awesome to have it on the go, without the need to run bootcamp or anything of the sort.

    43. Creator Peter van Groning on May 25, 2012

@Stainless Aww, too bad. Still nice little extra. Can't look a gift horse in the mouth right. Although you can run it over. :p

    44. Creator Konstantinos Angelopoulos on May 25, 2012

      Upgrading to $25 package ;)

    45. Creator matthias sweertvaegher on May 25, 2012

cool! I remember being SO IMPRESSED by the carma1 demo back in the days. I just kept playing it over and over trying to discover as much as possible in that very limited time limit :) it was so innovative in so many ways

    46. Creator Tom B. Zømbie on May 25, 2012

I wouldn't go by the pictures, clearly they haven't done any work yet so they're just placeholders. If stainless have given them the source code to the game there's a lot they could do.

    47. Creator Lyons100 on May 25, 2012

They would need to use something like NGLIDE and a modified dosbox to get the 3dfx version to work. it will most likely only be the standard dos version going by the pictures on gog (http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/carmageddon_max_pack)

    48. Creator Dave Kinsella on May 25, 2012

This deserves a Cunning Stunt bonus!

    49. Creator Stargazer on May 25, 2012

      Oh alright, you got me.
      *Pledged!*

    50. Creator Soeren Jensen on May 25, 2012

You people really know how to get more money out me.....
