Carmageddon: Reincarnation is a brand new points-for-pedestrians driving game from the indie dev team behind the smash hit PC original.
15,736 backers pledged $625,143 to help bring this project to life.

Mega Massive Update Time! NEWS! REWARDS! NYAAARGH!!

That’s right you heard correctly! A downloadable DRM free version of the game! The DRM free version of the game won’t be available at the same time we launch the first release of the PC game through Steam – it will be introduced as soon as we can, afterwards. And obviously some of the stuff that comes with the Steam version won’t be supported… But you’ll be getting complete freedom to play Single Player and LAN multiplayer without the need to install Steam or be connected to the internets. We are adding it to the $15 level, so it’s the same price as the Steam download version. And if you pledge for the DRM free version, we’ll also send you the Steam code so you can still play immediately and take advantage of the Steam features, if you want.

New Rewards!

Pledge $15 OR MORE

DRM THIS!:As well as the Steam version, all $15 pledgers will be offered a DRM-free, caffeine free, gluten free, born free non-steam version of the PC game to download.  This version will have no Steamworks functionality and will support single player and LAN multiplayer only.  This is only currently offered for the PC platform and will not be available until completion. (Mac and Linux versions are planned, but still TBC.) Please note that the delivery date is an estimate and is subject to change.

Estimated Delivery: December 2013

DOUBLE WHAMMY: A total of 2 digital download codes for Carmageddon: Reincarnation.  Now you can bring a friend to play, and remember these come with beta access too! (+Previous Rewards)

Estimated Delivery: Feb 2013

POSTCARDS FROM THE (NEAR) FUTURE: A set of 4 Carmageddon: Reincarnation art cards.  (+Previous Rewards)

Estimated Delivery: Feb 2013

Estimated Delivery: Feb 2013

GOODY (BALL) BAG – THE BAG: An actual bag for your bag of goodies!  As demonstrated by Sim, this handy carrying apparatus can be used to transport all sorts of STUFF!

There’s no need to choose this reward – if you’ve already pledged $350 or more you’ll get this too!

Estimated Delivery: Feb 2013

Reddit AMA Q&A  Round up!

In case you missed it! here is the information rounded up from the last Reddit AMA session…

Returning features

·         There  will be a return of the American Football players and stadium (including the Electro Bastard Ray power up placed in the corner!)

·         Include a classic sound set – for those who didn’t know Nobby was 90% of the non-female character sound effects!

·         We love the severed hand and would like to bring it back

·         The Damage gallery after the race is returning

·         You will be happy to know Dr Kev and his awesome physics are returning!

·         Handling should feel like Carmageddon 1

·         We are keeping and even expanding on the massive environments

·         Car splitting is going in!

·         Classic Carmageddon animals will return along with new animals!

·         Lan Multiplayer is something we want

·         The game will be highly moddable! – including skinning pedestrians to how you want!

New features

·         There will be extra rewards for people who like to explore

·         Old people sporting oxygen tanks that go BOOM (suggested by Mad_Maxine) are going in!

·         Drivers are not going to be running around but vehicles will have drivers who can be ejected through the windshield in a heavy impact. (Although some drivers may actually turn up as special, high value peds in certain levels...) ;)

·         Easter eggs will be in the game

·         Solid granite pedestrian power up

·         Splatter decals on the car bodies

·         There will be leaderboards and achievements!

·         There won’t be massive destructible environments simply because of the time and resources it would take up, there will of course be "feature" geometry that can be trashed, lots of lamp-posts to use as pedestrian pool cues, and of course masses of GLASS!

·         There will be lots of cool stats to look at

·         Carmageddon & GOG – “Stay tuned for further announcements... ;)” we can confirm we are looking into this at the moment and will let you lot here at Kickstarter know as soon as we know more!

·         For those that choose the “be a pedestrian” reward it’s as simple as sending a few pictures of yourself in good light!

·         We are currently looking into using the original sound track for Carmageddon! This is something we want too!

·         Carmageddon: reincarnation will be more closer to Carmageddon 1 than 2

·         Number of peds per level will vary depending on the environment, our prototype city level has 1500 for a nice level of density.

·         Steam workshop is something we are looking into

·         We have to balance level of detail with maintaining a consistent high frame-rate

·         When we say the pope wanted it banned it turned out to just be an MP called Greg Pope J

    1. Creator Daniel Saner on May 26, 2012

Holding a gun? It's *our* decision what we want to pay money for, and what we deem not worthy. I would have never considered backing a DRM-infested game, no matter how cheap. It was the only thing holding me back, and after this announcement I became a backer. It seems a LOT of people feel the same way, and hence the DRM removal has added quite a number of new backers. If I don't buy something because I think it's not worth it's asking price, I'm not extorting the manufacturer. It's the producers' job to make the product their customers want, if they want to sell it. Not mine to be a charity.

And @Gijs, you say you don't care about DRM, just about being able to play the game—that's exactly what the whole DRM issue is about though. DRM is the biggest danger of all to your ability to play the game you paid for. Especially if you care about whether you can still play the game 5 years down the road, or on your laptop in a train or plane. Let's talk again in a couple of years, when it becomes even more obvious how software pirates are the only ones who enable us to keep software and games alive, because publishers have been too disrespectful of their paying customers. I'm glad Stainless chose to *reward* people who pay for the game, rather than punish them.

      · Solid granite pedestrian power up

You people are pure evil. EVIL I SAY.

      (I loves it.)

    3. Creator James Diss on May 24, 2012

It isn't hard to comprehend, but holding a gun to the head of small developers seems like a bullying tactic when they have much tighter margins, so excuse the rest of us if we think your entitlement is pushing things a step too far.

    4. Creator Gijs on May 24, 2012

I get it, i just care more about getting the game funded en be able to play than waste energy on caring about drm.

    5. Creator Florent on May 24, 2012

@Gijs: your comment doesn't make any sense, you're wasting your energy typing it (as I am right now). Some people like it DRM free, it's not hard to comprehend, is it?

    6. Creator Gijs on May 24, 2012

stop complainging about drm, jou get a full game for almost nothing. I mean what is $15, how many new games can you buy that cheap.

    7. Creator hazardic on May 24, 2012

@Stainless Games another good news, you give a joy more and more

    8. Creator Florent on May 24, 2012

@SSX: I agree with you, my above comment was just to prove that the DRM free version shouldn't impact that much the development process, while at the same time help bring in more money for the KS.

Now, all I need to know is if the DRM free game will be as backed up by Stainless (patches & extensions) as the Steam version will be.

    9. Creator Lord Jason Mackay on May 24, 2012

Firstly, Sim, wow, good looks, good sense of humour, into games...will you marry me? ;-) lol

Secondly, Great new offers, good stuff. I just hope you keep enough money for yourselves, you deserve it :-)

      Keep up the good work.

    10. Creator SXX on May 24, 2012

I don't really need Steam multiplayer services.
We'll have LAN and Hamachi, it's more than enough to play with friends.

    11. Creator Bruno V. on May 24, 2012

I'm really glad about the DRM-free version and the hope of a Linux port. Go go 75k!

    12. Creator Arnathos on May 24, 2012

      First of all, awesome stuff!

Second of all, I thought Die Anna as a playable character was also a feature? No biggie if you hit a snag on that one, but it would be nice to know.

Thirdly, is there any chance at all you guys will attempt to code in a steel gonad o' death power-up again? Or is that too much work? I just really liked the concept.

    13. Creator Florent on May 24, 2012

@Charlie: irony and sarcasm won't change the fact that the DRM free anouncement has aldready, and will probably from now on too, make quite a lot of people pledge and/or raise their pledge. What do you have to answer to that? Plus the fact that the DRM free game won't take that much effort for Stainless to do, since they're not adding multiplayer support for it (which would need a lot of coding I guess).

Don't forget dude, KS is about convincing your audience. If Stainless finally went for a DRM free w/o multiplayer version of the game, it means that they thought it profitable in the long run.

    14. Creator Porcupine on May 24, 2012

Awesome! This DRM-free stuff really made my day... and (currently) 106 other backers seem to agree.

    15. Creator Peter Jacob on May 23, 2012

^_^ Upped my pledge to $75 because ya'll are offering a DRM free version. Bless you. Hey, maybe you guys can distribute the finished game through Good Old Games too.

    16. Creator Charlie on May 23, 2012

@doshu Yeah great. I am so glad the 7 people who hate Steam were able to get an entire company to focus their limited resources on making another version of the game just for you instead of spending development time on the game. People demanding a non-steam version should be dead last in priority: Windows, Mac, Linux, Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, Game Cube, iPhone, Android, iPad, N64, PS2, PS1, Xbox, PS4, Xbox 720, BeOS, Atari 2600, Windows Phone 7, Blackberry and then maybe the DRM free version assuming no one wants the PalmOS version first.

    17. Creator Florent on May 23, 2012

Awesome news! I honestly didn't think the DRM thing would change. I'm glad to have bitched that much about it two days ago^^.

Still, I have one last thing I would want cleared out before raising my pledge. It's kind of a stupid/obvious question, but I really want to be sure about that.

As all games, the game's gonna be updated by a few patches and probably extended by some extensions/DLCs. Will those patches/extensions/DLCs be available for the DRM-free version of the game as well? This is an important detail for those wanting to invest quite a lot of money in the game, but not wanting to use Steam: the assurance to be able to play the whole game at the end of the road (except those Steam only features, of course).

Since a lot of comments are being posted on the KS comments page, I'll post this one both here and on the main comment page. Sorry for the "double" post :)

      And Viva Carmageddon!

    18. Creator bicradash on May 23, 2012

      @Stainless Games
Thank you for the clarification. Apparently, I forgot to reload before I posted the earlier question.

    19. Creator ishinken on May 23, 2012

Cute girl! Now come oon backers! FINISH THIS! I neeeeeed this game so much!

    20. Creator ArchangelX on May 23, 2012

Thanks Stainless! I'm getting my shirt, woot! Keep up the good work! LAN is an awesome thing, thanks so much!

    21. Creator SXX on May 23, 2012

WoW! Great update! We'll happy to play C:R in LAN with friends! Upped to 60$!
"Mac and Linux versions are planned, but still TBC"!
I'll go to 120$+ if Linux version confirmed!

    22. Creator bicradash on May 23, 2012

There's no mention about the credits in the "DRM THIS!" tire. Could that be the difference between the two $15 tiers?

    23. Creator Stainless Games on May 23, 2012

To clarify a couple of points:
Yes, EVERYONE pledging $15 and above will get a Steam code in February, PLUS the DRM free version of the game when it's available. Higher tiers will also get the DRM free copy.
@ MemoryKill: Your preferred method for mod management sounds like our preferred way, too.
@ TutEvgen: Sorry for the lack of subtitles, but we made this Update movie today - and I only finished editing it at about 8pm this evening. We will try to update the videos with subtitles (especially those that are going to feature Sim) some time soon.

    24. Creator Recs on May 23, 2012

So I ended up pledging 25$ to get beta access. Does that give me all previous rewards= both a steam code AND a drm free version?

and if the game does go multiplatform on linux as well (something I'm interested in) do I get the chance to download the drm-free game for that as well?

sorry for the questions but the rewards are getting a bit confusing.

    25. Creator Recs on May 23, 2012

    26. Creator Michael Dabrowski on May 23, 2012

Beacause from what I undesrstand, there is absolutely no reason to stay with the old $15 pledge, am I right? Or is there something that I'm missing?;)

    27. Creator Michael Dabrowski on May 23, 2012

Please explain the difference between the old $15 pledge and the new $15 pledge. Will I receive two copies of the game (Steam and DRM free) if I switch to the new $15 pledge? Why estimated delivery note says Dec 2013? Will I have to wait longer than others if I choose it? It's confusing...

    28. Creator Dan Grenfell on May 23, 2012

Whoa, offline LAN mode and carma 1 handling! This makes me FURIOUSLY HAPPY!
      *does the dance*

    29. Creator matthias sweertvaegher on May 23, 2012

NOBBY: does the double whammy come with 2 steam codes, or what do you mean by "2 digital download codes"

    30. Creator MemoryKill on May 23, 2012

Awesome amount of info there! Brilliant :D, especially nice to know the game will be "highly moddable". Does custom cars/tracks/powerups fall into this catagory? here is hoping!

With steam workshop...personally? I'd say no no! It's far too chaotic, just look at how skyrim fairs up! I'd much rather have a dedicated "modding website" (possibly become part of the NEXUS chain of modding sites?) which would be awesome, get all your mods from there.

I really dislike the way it works for skyrim, the way it works for Portal 2 is MUCH MUCH better by that it seperately adds things to the game for you to turn on/off at your leisure, modded content goes into it's own "area" of the game, just like should be the case for this one to A) prevent noobs installing to many mods all over the place on top of each other messing the game up and B) ease of use with finally C) keeps it clean.

But anyway rambling over, ty for the information and posting it here, nice news about the DRM free version even though i don't mind steam at all, it's hardly invasive like other things :).

    31. Creator ThomasN on May 23, 2012

I kept my pledge at $150 and downed my reward to 'DRM THIS' to make it perfectly clear, and $135 as a thank you to Stainless listening to us is not a bad deal for me.
      Thank you for this!

    32. Creator matthias sweertvaegher on May 23, 2012

also, very cool you're considering a linux version!! it's my main platform

    33. Creator matthias sweertvaegher on May 23, 2012

as much I love you nobby, I have to admit it's kinda refreshing to see a nice looking girl in the video :p although I have no idea what she said, having trouble with the accent and stuff, haha ;)

    34. Creator Dukeblooders on May 23, 2012

Oh yeah. That's very cool !

Can we have an updated version of the rewards matrix ?
It's become complicated to follow :)

    35. Creator Wibble Pot on May 23, 2012

Bring back the super cop car to chase us. I loved sparing with it.

    36. Creator John on May 23, 2012

I'm with the rest of the commenters: What's the *advantage* to sticking with the current $15 instead of going with the new $15 one? Because I want the game on Steam, but the DRM-free package also gives it to me on Steam? So why *wouldn't* I take both?

    37. Creator Aaron Skinner on May 23, 2012

I've pledged $150 for an fantastic boxed copy and a variety of other goodies. Does this now get me a t-shirt?

    38. Creator Henry Snoek on May 23, 2012

@Edna The 25$ pledge states at the bottom (+Previous Rewards); so yes it includes the DRM free version.

    39. Creator Dave Woods [Owner of the Daffy Duck] on May 23, 2012

You guys are awesome. Sounds great you guys. The Reddit sessions are great! Just make sure you guys don't promise too much eh! ;)

    41. Creator Piotr Stolarczyk on May 23, 2012

@Ian Ladd - I believe YES. It clearly says "+Previous Rewards". So at 50$ you get 3 steam codes and a DRM free (LAN Party) version :) - and THAT is a GREAT deal :)

    42. Creator Narann on May 23, 2012

DRM free... DRM free... DRM free...

Thanks! Thanks! Thanks! Really! Thank you! haha!

    43. Creator Michael Hoffmann on May 23, 2012

In the video they basically repeated everything you can also read in the update text.

    44. Creator Edna Rouse (DiscoKittie) on May 23, 2012

I, too, wonder if a $25 pledge would get the backer the DRM free version as well.

      You guys are awesome!

    45. Creator Dirk Schlobinski on May 23, 2012

I also don't get the difference between the 15$ rewards.
Too drunk, too sleepy? Possible ^^

    46. Creator Eric Wood on May 23, 2012

So at $50 do we get a total of 3 digital copies since $50 includes the previous $30 Double Whammy with it's 2 digital copies?

    47. Creator Ian Ladd on May 23, 2012

Perhaps this is a stupid question but can anyone pledging above the $15 level choose the DRM free version?

    48. Creator TutEvgen on May 23, 2012

Why there are no at least English subtitles? I'm Russian. Practically anything aurally it is not understand, but sounds as if about something interesting are speaking. There would be subtitles, I by means of dictionary understand what talk about.

    49. Creator Stephen Watson on May 23, 2012

"The game will be highly moddable! – including skinning pedestrians to how you want!"

You skin them after you run them down, presumably?

    50. Creator Rob van de Ree on May 23, 2012

nope all the pledges with a higher amount have (+previous rewards) so the DRM free one is included in all the pledges from $15 :) if that's what you are asking...
