Santa's Bulging Fun Sack!

Happy Holidays, Carmafans! It’s UPDATE TIME again, plus the Carmageddons are HALF PRICE in the STEAM WINTER SALE!

To help everyone get in the festive mood, today we’re releasing Update 3 for Carmageddon: Reincarnation. And what’s Santa got for you in his bulging Update sack? Well, Santa’s pleased to announce the coming of the first TRACKED vehicle to the game! Yes, Heinz Faust is back in his updated killer ride. This new version is called the “Blitzkrieger”, and it’s got a terrifying set of tank tracks more than capable of crushing everything in its path!

And that’s not the only new vehicle to go roaring down Bleak City’s streets in… We’re also prouder than an elf with an antler down his trousers to introduce a sleek piece of classic continental metal for you to play with too, in the shape of “Shredlight”. It’s an open top racy number that sports a set of Ped-mangling teeth set into its front wings, and a vicious set of tyre-shredding wheel spinners!

Check out the new promo video to see the dangerous duo in action…

PLUS! ALL the Carmageddons are 50% OFF in the STEAM WINTER SALE! Get a real HO-HO HOLIDAY Bargain with all titles on sale at HALF PRICE!

What else is NEW? Well, there’s this stuff TOO:

Support for Vehicles with More than 4 Wheels!
In order for us to get Blitzkrieger to work, we had to add support for vehicles which had more than 4 wheels plus support for tank tracks. Go Go Modders!

New Damage!
Any damage that causes whole body deformation – things like the damage you get from Mines, Slaughter Mortar, Mine Shitting Ability and Earthquake Bomb – now includes a chance for a chassis twist! It can even happen through extreme damage, such as falling off a very tall building or very high speed impacts. Whilst fiddling in this area, we also made the Earthquake Bomb do more mine-like damage. Smashing!

Incorrectly Awarded Kill Points Improved
We’ve been making big improvements to the logic involved in figuring out who killed who, especially when there are more than two vehicles involved. Points for kills should now feel a lot fairer and incorrect reports of suicide should be improved too.

Multiplayer Toughness
We’ve been tweaking the numbers for the Offence and Defence stats for all the cars in Multiplayer. We’ve hopefully closed the gap a bit between all the different cars so that player to player damage is fairer.

Dual Core Machine Garage Freeze
In the last update we had a few reports of the Garage freezing for players using a Dual Core machine. This should now be fixed! Join us in Multiplayer over the Holiday Season to give the changes a good thrashing too!

So, good folk out there in Carmaland, we hope you enjoy taking the new vehicles for a seasonal psychopathic spin… Thanks for supporting Carmageddon through 2015, and here’s looking forward to all the AMAZING STUFF that’s scheduled to come through 2016 too! Stay tuned for BIG news in the New Year!

I backed for $350, nothing received yet. This makes me never back a project again.

    2. ThomasN on

Abandon all hope. I'm guessing the chief is having only one or two programmers still working on the game to fix "everything", pretending the release did not happen and when that's done, in like... forever, somebody still cares.

When are we finally gonna receive our stuff??? I backed for 150$ !!!

      $150

KICK IN THE BOX: It’s the one everyone’s been waiting for! The GAME. On a DVD. In a BOX! We’ve done the math and it will only slightly bankrupt us. We’re adding the boxed game with the manual and game on a printed DVD in as a $150 level Reward. If anyone who pledged $350 wants to drop their pledge to $150 as a result, then please feel free! If anyone currently going for the t-shirt or bumper sticker level rewards wants to swap their pledge to the boxed game offer, now’s your chance. (+Previous Rewards below $150) (At $350 level, you’ll get all three $150 Reward offers.)
      Estimated delivery: Feb 2013

Hope I will get a reply now

    4. ThomasN on

That rocks. Pity nobody could see that at fuckin' release of the game.

"Hey guys, Mac and Linux versions are still planned but we are unable to put a date to this while work still continues on improving the Windows version."
That's nice, but still — does that mean the engine is not multiplatform, so we're gonna get a subpar version, badly tested and delivered way too late to be meaningful ? If I would ever be that vague with my customer, they would (and rightly so) fire my ass and scream at me, the result being my reputation would be tarnished.

@Martin, OK, I'll look there. I guess I don't remember what association the Kickstarter had with the Humble Bundle now. It's been a while since I got my Steam key.

So here's a question: I backed at the 30 dollar level, which supposedly entitled me to two licenses for Carmageddon: R. How do I get that second Steam key or whatever so I can give one away? Anyone know?

Stainless Software: Nasty little lying homophobes who promise refunds and never give them.

Shameless Software? Sounds more accurate. Consider it. You can have that for free (just like you had my money).

    11. Raphael S. Neto on

If even releasing a DRM-Free for Windows is taking such long time, I can only wonder how many years will be past before (if ever) we'll see a Linux/Mac version.
      Sad news, indeed.

    12. Scott Evans on

I waiting for the Mac version too. I would appreciate a more detailed update on if work has started on this and if we can expect the reward in the next two years.

    14. Paul Weir on

The way your campaign was worded was misleading, because it implied that Mac+Linux would be made promptly (alongside the DRM version) if the stretch goal was reached, not considered as an afterthought after years of developing and selling only the Windows version.

The real kicker is your refusal to comment about it, to announce that development on Mac+linux has begun, to give an indication of the likely availability date, and to apologise to all those people who took you at your word about these versions.

And the DRM-free version. And the physical box.

You got overfunded on Kickstarter. You subsequently received a massive investment. You've had years of time. How is it possible that you failed to deliver anything on time, and still have failed to deliver anything but the DRM Windows version at all?

I have no idea what garbled logic you use - not just in corporate meetings, but in your hearts - to justify not saying anything, and to justify not starting on development.

    15. Valeriy on

As far as I can tell there is no such thing as "complete" regarding software development. There is always "that one last bug" or "darn, we have to provide compatibility with the newest version of library X/OS Y".

In other words, if "Stainless Games" is hoping to start porting to Linux after the "Last Patch" this means we probably never see it.

Well, this or one and the only port version without any further bugfixes because if there are no bugs on Windows (or more likely they are invisible) than this should magically mean there will be no bugs under Linux! Right? Wrong! Recent Unity3D fiasco with >1000 open files at once (more correctly "file streams" -- each file is opened and not closed approximately 100 times) does not show itself on Windows but hangs/crashes engine under Linux because this OS impose limit on maximum number of opened files. And so on...

    16. Chris Messina on

Checked my pledge... "Estimated delivery: Feb 2013". Not for Mac users. So disappointed in this campaign.

      Are you f***ing kidding me?
You add bells and whistles into the Windows version instead of developing DRM-free versions for Mac OS and Linux?

    18. Missing avatar

      berdario on

"Still planned"... you realize that until you won't allocate some resources to Linux/Mac development this will never happen? Until then, your "planning" is just wishful thinking.

And the best thing would've been to just go with the development of both platforms side by sie... if instead now you have in your hands a mess of spaghetti code, maybe directx specific... good luck.

      Get your act together

      Dear Santa,

I would like a DRM-Free version (aka the non-buggered up version) of Carmageddon Reincarnation in my stocking this year. I've been waiting patiently for years.

Please Santa only you can make this happen.

      Your friend,
      BSL

    20. Tomas on

"Some time after the Windows version is done" is an unacceptable answer. That could mean years. We need and deserve something more concrete regarding the Mac version. Or just give me a refund...

    21. Thomas Acton on

Still no answer to this! It is beyond ridiculous. I'm not prepared to wait any longer for the physical rewards and want a full refund. I have no interest in this project anymore and have been lied to too many times with the promise of it nearly being finished or rewards just around the corner. If you cant deliver then you need to offer a refund. I have been respectful and patient for far too long. This will be the fifth time i have sent a message. This is really unfair now.

      regards

      Tom Acton

Looks like a fun update :)
Glad the project has gone so well, it's great to have a new Carma game out there.
I am wondering though, for those of us who backed with a DRM free version in mind as was offered, where/how do we get access to our non-steam version of the game?

    24. tarasis on

Richard it does get asked every time and is ignored every time which is really sad. Mac / Linux doesn't affect me as I dual boot, but it disappoints me that they are treating backers this way & it sadly just tarnishes their reputation.

Bets the Big news is that it's coming to consoles next year?

    25. Blake Stephens on

Oops. Looks like I hit [post] 3 minutes too late. Thanks for the update Stainless. I'll try to be more patient.

Almost 3 years after the deadline (we will reach it in February), and 7 month after the official Windows release, we are still waiting for the Linux / Mac version we backed up for.

      As you said:
      So, if we reach:
      $600,000!

We’ll be committing to supporting Mac and Linux, and you’ll be able to select a version to download at the same $15 and above price. And, like the DRM free version, the shipping date for these versions will be further out, towards the end of 2013.

Anything to say about it, except "These will come when the game is "complete" on Windows as it can be."?
Like, you know, something more substantial than "later"?

    27. Blake Stephens on

I've been a long time supporter of Carmageddon, and opted for backing at a higher tier to endorse the Mac version. (Which the goal was met. yay!) I've been eagerly and patiently waiting for years now, with no updates. Is there *anything* at all you could share, even a "we're sorry, but we don't feel like hiring Mac people to port it" would be news. I just want some --any-- form of an update.

    28. Dave Pallas on

You scamps. I just gifted this game on steam to a friend full price to my friend not 2 days ago.

Hey guys, Mac and Linux versions are still planned but we are unable to put a date to this while work still continues on improving the Windows version.

We'll also have an update in the new year with regards to sending out the remaining physical rewards.

      Happy holidays!

I'm sure I'm not the only one who funded at a higher tier to help meet the stretch goal for making Mac and Linux versions. News about the addition of new cars to the Windows version is kind of a kick in the teeth. An ETA would help! You don't even have it as a FAQ in your knowledgebase and I'm pretty sure this gets asked all the time.
