Helloooo Carmafans! Nobby here, with news that the latest update for Carmageddon: Reincarnation is available NOW.

Yes, it’s been a while since launch, and in the weeks since then the team has been working flat out to improve the game’s performance and deal with the issues reported by our community. The update goes LIVE on Steam TODAY and I’ve got a heads-up for you of what it’s got to offer.

Performance Improvements
The techies have been beavering away, and we’ve been diligently testing the results of their labours. So without further ado, here’s the average results that we’re seeing by testing the Career Mode in normal gameplay conditions:

Minimum Spec
20-25% increase across the board on 720p, standard settings
25-30% increase across the board on 1080p, standard settings

Recommended Spec
25-30% increase across the board on 720p, standard settings
20-25% increase across the board on 1080p, standard settings

Note that these gains have come from a whole lot of general optimisations and bug fixes. Work is continuing on fundamental changes/improvements to our core engine tech, and the very significant performance benefits of these changes will be seen in future updates.

Multiplayer
The performance improvements above combined with significant changes to the underlying MP code means that multiplayer is now far more stable.

Bug Fixes
There have been over 350 bugs fixes since launch. Some notable examples:

  • We identified and fixed over 25 separate crashes
  • Optimised car damage physics
  • Optimised our general physics code (various improvements, including significantly reducing slow down during extreme pinball with multiple objects)
  • The default install resolution will now use your desktop for fresh installs (except for low end PC users)
  • Fixed significant rendering issues for Crossfire & SLI users
  • Removed the Windows 7 requirement for Windows update KB2670838
  • We identified and fixed several bugs that caused significant stuttering/stalling on some PCs
  • Multiplayer desync and network interruption issues

For a full list of updates please view our patch notes list on Steam.

Future Updates
We are continuing to work on improvements in a number of key areas, including the long-awaited faster level loading times and further significant performance improvements. So, we’ll continue to roll out updates over the course of the coming months, and more details of dates and what to expect will follow. We will also have updated news on the scheduling of the Mac & Linux versions of Carmageddon: Reincarnation.

Kickstarter Rewards
Plans are being finalised for posting out physical rewards, and more news on this will follow very soon.

That’s all the update news for now folks. We look forward to getting your feedback on Steam and Carmageddon.com forums, and as ever, please report any bugs or issues here.

Hang on to Yer Helmets!

It's been over 3 years since the 'Mac version' stretch goal was reached and not even a word about a Mac time line. No release date. No alpha version.

We have been patient because we all understand this is not done overnight but how would YOU feel if you had pledged for the Mac version three years ago?

This is why I don't pledge on kickstarter projects without clear timelines any more.

      Hi,

I need to change my mailing address before the physical rewards ship. I tried messaging on the backer site but didn't receive a reply.

      Thanks

      Danielle

STILL have not gotten my Steam code or anything else associated with my reward tier.

Mac, soon, please. I know it has been a long time for everyone, but while Windows PCs are actually playing something right now, we don't have acknowledgement that Mac and Linux versions have even been started. The update reads as though work on them will not start until after more work has been done on the Windows version. It's been too long, and you're too big a company to be unable to work on multiple platforms at once. Mac, soon, please.

Thanks! Final release mean Linux version mean DRM free version. :)
I'm patiently waiting for Linux version. :)

What about the GOG version of the game? I pledged on a specific tier to get it and all I read about is steam =(

    8. Duky on

      Thank you for the update.

It's good to ear that you're still working on improving the game.

But what about the Linux version ?

Yeah, I second that - schnide, if it will shut you up I'll go halves with James to refund you! I bet you were a dollar backer anyway, paradoxically they tend to be the most self-entitled.

    11. James Diss on

schnide, how much are you looking for? I'm willing to pay you to go away.

    12. Augusto Breitenbach Diniz on

      Thanks, Nobby!
      Looking forward for these ups

Yay! Good news, hopefully by the time I get to unboxing, my PC can run this gory greatness!

Thank you for working hard, Nobby & Team Stainless!

      @schnide

A honest question to you, not trolling; You seem to be sensitive to charged issues, to the point of dedicating loads of time to post on the Internet about them. Fair enough. But if this is the case, why did you back "Carmageddon" in the first place? I find this baffling. I mean it has always been pretty much the most explicit example of the brutal political incorrectness in video games, surely you knew beforehand that you would be offended. It's not like Stainless hid these facts in their pitch, on the very contrary.

YES! Thank you very much for this, I have no idea what's in it and I have no problem running the game anyway (although those unobtainable achievements were slightly frustrating) but it does seem high time for an update and I have no doubt that a significant number of improvements have been made. I look forward to adding many happy hours to my 70-odd tally so far!

@schnide - I'm getting extremely bored of seeing your continued spamming over what you and you alone perceive to be some sort of misdeed by the developers. You're free to state your position but to be frank you already have done innumerable times and it's perfectly obvious that nobody cares, nobody agrees and you will achieve absolutely nothing. So at the risk of sounding rude, please just shut and go away. You are adding nothing useful to this discourse and are using an inappropriate avenue to espouse your personal opinion.

However, if you choose to continue this ridiculous crusade then go right ahead. It sways no one and affects nothing so by all means continue urinating into the wind - at the end of the day, you're the only one left covered in p**s.

Looking forward to finally hearing something about the Linux port.

Now, concerning schnide, while I agree mostly with your original point (derogatory use of "gay" isn't okay in an update, but as an acronym - "GAY silencer" - I have no issue), isn't this a bit of a dead horse at this point?
      "schnide on June 13, 2013
I don't want my money supporting the ugly, homophobic ignorant language that Neil 'Nobby' Barnden thinks it's okay to spew into my inbox - but then I'd also rather not have the money back than lose the opportunity to call him out on it."

Ditto on a Mac update please...

    17. schnide on

      Hi Stainless.

Do you remember when you sent out your childish, homophobic update and then never apologised for it? Do you remember when instead you promised refunds, on these very Kickstarter pages, to anyone who ever wanted one?

Do you remember how I've repeatedly asked you for that refund, contacting you on here and directly, and how Kickstarter even contacted you for it too, but you've ignored it every time?

So do you remember the reasons why, when I call you lying homophobes, it's because that's actually what you are? And that you've done it with my money?

It's all there in the previous updates. So if anyone doesn't know the background and just assumes I'm going off on one, this isn't a rant, this is something that's actually happened.

And just as I told them, I'll keep posting it on every single update, just so that they never forget it - even if they might want everyone else too.

Hi guys. Is there any update on the Mac version? I know you're working hard, but could we even get an update about it? Is it in progress? I really want to get to play this game! and feel excited when I load it up, but at this point I'm just feeling ripped off. Help us Mac users understand where we are on the schedule!

Finally I will be able to play. Thank you for this. I was pretty sure the game would simply be abandoned.

Hope this is gonna fix performance issue a lot. Frankly speaking, fps on the February release were embarrassing , just compare it with a game like gta v which is running a lot better with a visual quality tenfold better.
