Blog & World Map Net!
Hello Backers!
New big blog post; follow the link to check it out!
http://polyhedra.stacyspeyer.net/new-blog/2017/12/11/polyhedra-at-planet

It starts with my woven installations, how that led to my geometric art work, describes Planet (the aerospace company where I'm an Artist-in-Residence), shows some of Planet's artwork (on a rocket and a satellite), and has several new pieces I made with Planet's imagery. It also has a few stop motion videos, so you can see all around the pieces.

The people at Planet wanted me to share my artistic journey for their employees. Looking back at my series of large scale weavings and seeing how they connect with my current mathematical and scientific interests was a special experience for me. Please, let me what you think of the new blog post.
Planet World Map Icosahedron Net
The folks at Planet asked me to take their 2017 Summer Seasonal Mosaic and put it on a polyhedron.

Following in the spirit of Buckminster Fuller's Dymaxion Map, I made an icosahedron net. Mine is simpler to make than the Dymaxion Map, with its two versions that focus on the continuity of landmasses or oceans. Translating Planet's rectangular map into something that could fold up spherical was very challenging. Antartica and Russia took me many additional hours of work in Photoshop.

Since they sent this out as their Holiday card, I couldn't resist sharing it with you. Download the PDF here:

This link will work until February 1, 2018.
Wishing you a happy holiday season and a fabulous 2018!
