About

Stacked is a family game from 1-5 players, that is part card game, and part dexterity. The goal is to place blocks on top of a pre-set base to form a teetering tower. Without knocking this tower over, the person to bank the most points in their play pile wins! After much debate on the “proper” way to play Stacked, the designers decided to include their 3 most popular modes of play. Try them all and enjoy 3 games in one!

Victory Condition (How do you know who wins?)

Stacked allows you to pick the  Victory condition that you like, or to fit whatever circumstances you’re  playing under. Only 30 minutes for lunch? Play a short game. A family game night? Play a long game!! It’s up to you!

Playing Mode

A. Trick–Taking - This requires a little more strategy –   Winners of the trick don’t have to place a block on the tower, but instead   get to make one of their opponents place it!

B. Draw-and-Play - This is great for kids or solitaire  play! No hand of cards, no tricks – draw a card and place that block on the tower. Don’t touch any blocks whose color is the  same as the color of the last piece added to the tower. How high can you go?

C. Follow-the-Leader  – Place a block of the same color or  shape as the previous player, or you’ll draw another card in your hand and  potentially lose points at the end of the game.

Difficulty Level

The base upon which the STACKED tower is built is formed by taking a certain  number of blocks and arranging them to form a solid base. The smaller the base, the more difficult to  build upon! Based on the difficulty you wish the game to have, you’ll draw a certain number of cards from the top of the deck – and use the blocks   depicted on those cards to form the base.

Help us spread the word of Stacked and make this game a reality! The first printing of the game will be limited edition and offered directly from us at the best price available!

Our retail shop partners have been very happy supporting our past projects with Keystone Pricing and retail perks. If your shop would like something unique and different in scarce supply, consider supporting Stacked!

Tim, LeAnn and Sean have been working on and talking about Stacked for almost 2 years now - the time was finally right to bring this vision to Kickstarter!

What POSSIBLY could this team be dreaming up? Stay tuned to see what we all might be able to unlock together!

Shipping will be collected after the campaign and include a subsidy from Mr. B. Games to help keep your costs low.

We expect the cost to be around $9-$12 in the USA and $18-$26 in the EU/UK, Canada is looking around $16-$25 and worldwide prices varying from $30 - $70 depending on your location (most of those fall in the $35 - $45 range but some destinations are outside our control).

Countries Excluded: We are no longer able to ship to Brazil, Russia, Mexico, South America, South Africa or the Middle East due to high postage prices, and lost parcels. If you live in one of these areas, we recommend you use a USA address and have the game forwarded to you via a relative/friend or postage forwarding company.

We continue to work with different fulfillment centers all over the world to ensure better and more affordable delivery each campaign but none will guarantee delivery to these countries. We use 3rd party fulfillment houses and cannot control the speed of delivery to some areas but will always use the best options available. Damages may occur during transit - you should always try to work with your local carrier if possible and contact our customer service if you have any issues (mrbgames.cs(atsymbol)gmail)

We plan to ship in 3 waves. The first will be to those who fill out their survey by our announced cut off date (which will be in an update). Wave 2 will follow shortly after, with a final Wave after that. Those who do not fill in their surveys by the wave 1 cutoff may be subject to vat and shipping fees outside the usa.

Playing Modes

Trick Taking (Works best with   3-5 players)

1. Based   upon your selected difficulty level, assemble the selected blocks to form the   base. Blocks must be laid flat (widest   side down) to form a level base. All blocks from this point on may be placed on   the tower in any orientation – however, a placed block may not touch the   surface below the base and you may only use 1 hand.

2. The   cards used to form the base are placed face-up in a conveniently located   discard pile.

3. 7   cards are dealt to each player, and the remaining cards are left face down in   a draw pile.

4. The   oldest Player goes first. This person   will determine the color/suit of the first card to be played.

5. He/she   announces a color, and all players select a card of that color and lays it face   down in front of themselves. If a   player doesn’t have a card of that color, he/she may lay down any card face   down.

6. On   the count of three, all players reveal their cards simultaneously. The person with the highest numbered card   of the color announced, wins the trick. In the case of a tie those tied players cancel each other out and the person   with the next highest numbered card wins the trick. There could be multiple   ties, or no winner. If so, the first player does not move.

Draw-and-Play (works best for   1-5 players; also the best version to   play with small kids)

1. Based   upon your selected difficulty level, assemble the selected blocks to form the   base. Blocks must be laid flat (widest   side down) to form a level base. All blocks from this point on may be placed   in any orientation – however, a placed block may not touch the surface below   the base.

2. The   cards used to form the base are removed from the game.

3. Starting   with the youngest player, draw the top card from the draw pile, and place   this card face up in your personal play pile.

4. That   player takes the block shown on the card he/she played, and adds it to the   tower. There is no illegal orientation,,   however, the block may not touch the surface below the base. That player may use his/her block to shove   other blocks around as needed – but the tower can only be touched by that   block.

5. Play   proceeds clockwise. However, for   block placement from this point forward, when placing a block, the player may   not touch any block (ignoring the base) of the color of the preceding block   that was added to the tower. For   instance: Tim goes first and plays a   RED block. On Sean’s turn, when he   places his YELLOW block, he cannot touch any RED blocks because Tim added a   red block to the tower before his turn. When LeAnn’s turn comes up, and she has to place a BLUE block, she   cannot touch any YELLOW blocks, because Sean played a yellow block on the   tower before her turn. Base block   colors are disregarded during placement. The ONLY exception to this rule for placement, is if all players agree   it is impossible to place a block. For instance, if three or four blocks of the same color were added to   the tower consecutively, there most likely isn’t a legal place to play a   subsequent block of the same color. If   all players agree it is impossible, then the player whose turn it is may   place his/her block anywhere he/she wants.

6. Play   continues until either the tower collapses, or there no card remaining in the   draw pile.

Follow-the-Leader (works best   for 2-5 players)

3. 7   cards are dealt to each player, and the remaining cards are left face down in   a draw pile.

4. The   youngest player goes first. He/she   plays any color card from his/her hand to his/her personal play pile.

5. That   player then takes the block shown on the card he/she played, and adds it to   the tower. There is no illegal   orientation, however it may not touch the surface below the base. That player may use his/her block to shove   other blocks around as needed – but the tower can only be touched by that   block. You may only use one hand at a time.

6. If   there are cards remaining in the draw pile – then that player draws 1 card   and adds it to his/her hand so that there are seven cards in his/her hand.

7. Play   proceeds to the right (Clockwise).

No project could be possible without a team of folks to help us. Stacked is no exception. Below are just some of the folks who are making this project possible:

Project Leads - Tim Phillips, LeAnn Phillips and Sean Brown - Tim and Sean have worked together before on Zothren Invasion and this time Tim and LeAnn are helping Mr. B Games with this new project with Art Direction, and campaign questions.

Designer and Developer - Sean Brown - Sean has worked in the game industry for almost 12 years, many of them for Eagle Games and Mr. B. Games as a salesmen, co-designer, graphic artist, marketing director, developer, and warehouse manager (many at the same time) since 2006. He has worked on Alien Uprising, Spurs, Realm of Heroes, Zothren Invasion, Posthuman, Days of Ire, Madness at Midnight, WarQuest, Liars Dice, Prospectus, Helionox, and Clockwork Kingdom as a designer, developer and/or graphic artist for Mr. B. Games as well as the following titles via graphic art, development or co-design work while at Eagle Games: Age of Steam, Age of Empires III, Attack Deluxe, Baltimore and Ohio, Brass, Defenders of the Realm and all of its expansions, Defenders Battlefields, Empires Builder Expansion, I'm the Boss TCG, Incan Gold, New England Railways, Pirate Dice, Railways of the World and all of its expansions, Roll through the Ages, Through the Ages, Tumblin Dice, and Wizards Brew.

Sales and Production - Mr. B. Games - Mr. B is a small publishing company started by Sean Brown in 2005 to publish his own game designs, that has grown to include 6 studios and worldwide distribution.

Tim’s Bio - Like most of us, Tim began playing board and card games before elementary school.  And in second grade, when Monopoly became a little dull, he combined it with his Risk set, and people had to fight over property with their troops.  They collected rental income based on the properties they owned, and used that money to purchase more troops!  There was a famous battle for "Park Place" in the history of that game.   After college, Tim left the boardgame scene because he didn’t know any gamers in the area he relocated to.  In 2008, he discovered a gaming group – and was introduced to all of the wonderful games that he missed out on over the years.  It was just a matter of time till he started making up his own games again.  STACKED was his first game which he began working on in 2011.  Mr B games was introduced to Tim via another design which became “Alien Uprising: Zothren Invasion” and Tim’s first published game.  During conversations about other projects, Tim introduced Sean to an earlier version of STACKED and over the past three years, Tim, LeAnn and Sean have perfected it into what we have now!  Tim has about a half-dozen different projects in various stages of development, but STACKED will be his second game to be published.

LeAnn’s Bio - LeAnn also grew up playing card games around the family dining room table.  As a child of about 7 years old, her father took her to a friendly Poker night at a Neighbor’s house, but had to bring her home because she was winning all the money!!!  LeAnn had never been involved with designing games until she and Tim started working on earlier versions of STACKED.  LeAnn started her career in childhood education and has big soft spot in her heart for kids!  LeAnn knew STACKED could be a great game for kids, as well as adults, and has spent the past few years working to make sure STACKED stayed kid-friendly throughout the whole process.  The “Draw and Play” variant of STACKED came from lots of game play with younger kids, and making sure the game would work for them too!  This is LeAnn’s first venture into game design.

Do not post in the comments, or other forums as we may miss them or be delayed in replying.

The following Terms are accepted by you, the backer when you pledge, so we can ensure smooth delivery for all. Pledging to one of our Kickstarter projects is NOT a pre-order. Your data is always safe as we use a 3rd party service to secure it and contact you about projects. Surveys not filled in after 2 months of final delivery (from the "we are shipping" update) or missing reward requests after 2 months of your game shipment will be treated as a no reward pledge. Please help us get you your rewards by emailing our CS with any issues you may have in a timely manner and filling in your survey in a timely manner. Watch for updates on all shipping statuses. All our major communications will be via Updates. Our Privacy Policy is posted on our website and by pledging to one of our campaigns you agree to its terms and conditions which are compliant around the world for a USA based company mailing pledge rewards to its backers.

If your reward goes missing due to a bad address or failure to pick up on your end, contact our CS and we can arrange a replacement but will need to collect shipping again. If this is an error on our end we will reship at no cost to you.

Missing reward requests should be sent to our CS no larter than 30 days after your shipping wave update, as tracking numbers become difficult to track after 30 days. Help us help deliver for you :) Please provide pictures of damages if your reward arrives damaged and try your local carrier first - then our CS to help if you cannot get a resolution from the carrier re: damage.

By pledging to this project, you acknowledge that the final look and materials of the project and hence the rewards, are subject to change and may differ from what is presented while the Kickstarter campaign was active. If you do not accept these terms, please do not pledge on this project but instead wait for the possibility of a general release copy. We will always do our best to provide exactly what was pictured, but sometimes small details change or a card is removed and replaced with another, ect. The above campaign depicts our plan, but all plans can change at a factory level. Pledge with confidence, as we rarely alter our contents, and to date have only updated or added from development.

Risks and challenges

With every project there are risks, but we hope that our past track record in publishing, as well as Sean's design and development work at his previous publishing jobs will put everyone's minds at ease. Mr. B. Games has delivered on 23 of its 26 Kickstarter projects on time or early with only 2 being late (none more than 2 months). We are not new to the industry and have been making games in some capacity since 2001. With our previous experiences we can pool from the 15+ years of lessons (both good and bad) to ensure a smooth, and accurate production and delivery. We hope that you will help support us in our publishing efforts, and thank you in advance for your confidence in Mr. B. Games!
