About this project
Imagine designing a truly one of a kind sandal, perfectly suited to YOUR lifestyle and aesthetic...
Sounds pretty great, doesn’t it? Well, it can soon be a reality. At Sseko, we're dreaming about leading the next frontier of transparent and customizable fashion with Design Your Dream Sandal.
Sseko started in Uganda 7 years ago with 3 women under a mango tree making leather sandals, dreaming about a brighter future. After making appearances on Shark Tank and Good Morning America, co-designing a sandal with Sophia Bush, and launching a fast-growing direct sales channel, we have seen the demand for our hand-crafted, quality leather sandals. We've also seen just how unique each Sseko woman is.
Inspired by the creativity and vision of our customers, we've decided to take it one step further: completely customizable sandals. Whether you’re looking for sandals for your next big adventure, a new everyday favorite, a sandal that steals the show or even the perfect custom kicks for you and your bridesmaids, you’ll be able to bring that vision to life.
Because we own our manufacturing, we’re able to offer you bespoke quality custom sandals for an incredibly reasonable cost. You’ll choose your size, style, materials, color, and even details like hand-beaded accents and monograms! Along the way, we'll also connect you to a Sseko stylist to help you design your creation.
If you need help designing your custom creation, we'll have a team of Sseko Stylists ready to help! This team of women across the U.S. help to share our story and sell Sseko, and they're experts in all things sandal style. When you back our Kickstarter, you'll have the option of designing your sandals on your own, or (as we highly recommend!) getting connectd to a Stylist in your area who can help walk you through the details—so that you are certain to LOVE your custom kicks!
If you're interested in joining our team of Stylists, you can learn more on the Sseko Fellows page!
Did we mention that while you’re busy making your sandal dreams a reality, you’ll also be helping a dream come true for a woman in East Africa?
You see, our sandals are stunning, but the story behind them is just as beautiful.
By employing bright and brave young women during their gap year to help us make beautiful, versatile, hand-crafted footwear and accessories, we’ve enabled 72 women in Uganda to attend college and become leaders in the their communities.
As you design your dream sandal from the highest quality materials, you’ll get connected to our team in Uganda who will be handcrafting your creation. You’ll receive updates from our team about the process of crafting your one of a kind sandal. In addition to learning about how your sandals are being made, you’ll learn about the hopes and dreams of the women in Uganda who are making them. You’ll be along for the ride as your design comes to life.
When you design your own sandals with Sseko, you get a pair of beautiful, stylish, one of kind, custom-made sandals that you’ll wear season after season, year after year. Meanwhile, she gets the opportunity to pursue her dreams, go to college and become a leader in her community and our world.

Risks and challenges
There are risks involved with launching a new product. However, our risks are mitigated significantly because we are vertically integrated and own our manufacturing. Furthermore, the product we are hoping to launch has already been developed and is ready for production. The greatest risks we face would be involving our raw material supply chain. However, we've been operating in the region for six years and feel confident in our supply network. Our stretch goal products will require continued development and there is a potential risk that we would need to extend our development period, although we feel confident the existing timeframe it is achievable.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
