Santet Island Disharmony is a 2D roguelite top-down shooter with cute art-style, where every run is a unique experience. This game also aims to infuse Javanese culture into the digital world of video game, such as adapt some Javanese-related element into lore of the game & using Javanese-related instrument (gamelan, angklung, etc) as the component of the background music.
Every run started with a help from 1 random item that you can get from the item box. In this game, the player is forced to follow the movement of the area instead of the camera following the player. As the area move, you will encounter a lot of randomly-generated enemies & obstacles (the formation of enemies & obstacles is always different on every run). You can kill the enemy to get a chance to get another random item to help your way out or you can try to dodge all of them in order to survive. The area will always move until it reach the boss fight area. You will proceed to the next area when you defeat the boss. If you die, you will get back to the square one, so be careful. Try the demo version, which include an early level of Santet Island Disharmony, the Forest. This demo include all enemies of the Forest along with its obstacle & boss fight, 49 droppable items, 1 Mysterious Mage (Shopkeeper), & 1 playable character (Sage Apprentice). Almost all of the elements are randomly-generated, so you can play over and over again to get different experience in each run. TLDR: Over 100 unique items, 5 playable characters, 9 randomly-generated areas, 10 different endings, & beautiful culture-infused music.
The items categorized into 5 type of item, with their own behaviour:
Jamu - This type of item will consumed immediately after it get picked, give you some minor permanent stats boost.
Tool - This type of item is an active item, which means it will only get active when you trigger it. You can only carry maximum of 2 tools at the same time.
Artifact - This type of item is an passive item, which means it will always active or it will active with some certain cooldown. You can only carry maximum of 5 artifacts at the same time.
Relic - This type of item will floating around the area & interactable with the environment, whether with the player, the enemy, or the area itself.
Remains - This type of item can only be unlocked by defeating certain boss. At the start of the run, you have to chose one of remains to carry along your current run.
All of the playable character have their own unique skills & base stats:
Sage Apprentice - This mage is full of thirst for knowledge. He can shoot 2 giant shot with his active skill, while his passive skill grant him extra exp point when he kill enemy.
Soul Eater - This mage known for his ability to absorb life energy. He can damage all enemy then restore his HP with his active skill, & the passive skill give him chance to restore HP after kill the enemy.
Guard Commander - Like his alias, guard is this mage's mastery. His active skill grant him damage immunity for a few seconds, while his passive skill give him extra damage reduction when he use guard.
Heal Queen - The beauty mage of regeneration. Her passive skill grant her HP & MP regeneration every second, while the active one give her instant great number of HP & MP restoration.
Decay King - The mage of doom & damned. His active skill will damage all enemy the give DPS for a few seconds to them, while his active will damage all enemy every few seconds.
Village, Forest, Swamp, Prairie, Desert, Volcano, Tundra, Cave, & Ruin. All of the area have their own unique enemies & obstacle, which will be spawned randomly following some rule of arrangement at the start of every area.
Reach the true ending by your hands! In each successful run before you reach the true ending, the difficulty for the next run will be increased to give you more challenge. Do or die!
Javanese-related instrument will be used as the component of every background music in this game. Check out some BGM that already made by our composer, who is apparently also our artist:
TLDR: Ancient trance, mysterious mage, shrine, rank up, journal, & skill tree.
When you carry 3 of the items from the same original owner, the ancient mage spirit will possess your body, turn you into the ancient mage with brand new skills. There are 10 ancient mages:
Magical Summoner - Her passive skill give her chance to spawn magical eagle on every shot, while her active skill make that chance become 100% for a few seconds.
Time Jumper - His active skill will reset the cooldown of all the item, while his passive skill will reduce the cooldown of all item.
Eternal One - His active skill make his HP won't drop below 1 for a few seconds, while his passive skill will resurrect him upon death with full HP and MP, but only once.
Thunder Master - His active skill will call down thunder that strike enemy every second for a few seconds, while his passive skill will give him chance to call down thunder that strike all enemy when you activate tool.
Numb Maker - His active skill will make every shot have 5 seconds stun effect for a few seconds, while his passive skill will stun all enemy for 5 seconds when you take damage.
Frost Emitter - His active skill will make every shot have 10 seconds slow effect for a few seconds, while his passive skill give him chance to slow all enemy for 10 seconds on every shot.
Curse Caster - His active skill will make every shot have 15 seconds poison effect for a few seconds, while his passive skill give him chance to poison all enemy for 15 seconds when you kill enemy.
Beast Tamer - Her active skill will tame all enemy for a few seconds, while her passive skill will make her tame all enemy for a few seconds when you pick an item.
Critter Creator - His active skill will turn 3 enemies into mouse every 3 second for a few seconds, while his passive skill give him chance to turn all enemy into mouse when you cast active skill.
Acid Addict - Her active skill will kill all enemy with the same type by random, while her passive skill give her chance to kill all the enemy with the same type as you kill.
In addition to a chance to drop an item, killing enemy give you chance to summon a mysterious mage that desire your exp point, who will offer you a various deal:
Shopkeeper - You can buy 1 out of 3 items that shown to you.
Stats Trader - You can exchange some points of stats for another points of stats with the cost of some of your exp points.
Gracious Gambler - Pay with your exp point to get a chance to choose 1 out of 5 mysterious card with various effect.
Generous Merchant - Buy an item with half of the price of the shopkeeper's item, or you can reroll it for the next item on the list.
Rare Dealer - Sell items that can't be obtained from item drop with decent price.
Shrine is a magical structure placed right in the middle of the every area. You have to touch it to activate its effect, which will destroy all enemy & give another effect based on the type of the shrine:
Riddle Shrine - You will be given a question about your current run. Correct answer will heal your HP by 20.
Desire Shrine - You get a chance to swap 1 of your item into another random uncollected item on the list.
Tribute Shrine - You get a chance to offer 1 of your item and get double amount of its price as the exchange.
Redemption Shrine - You get a chance to remove all of your item to double your current exp point.
When you reach certain amount of exp point, you will get a rank up, which will increase your stats a little bit. Make sure you always aim to get high exp point as you will grow stronger.
A lot of unique upgrade for every playable character is available to unlock. The only way to unlock those upgrade is by spending the exp point you get from previous run, another reason to aim to get high exp point on every run.
The journal contain a lot of information about this game. You can search for the detail of the players, the enemies, or the items inside of it. Knowledge is an important part of your skill, don't forget it.
We're set 2 kind of stretch goals for this Kickstarter campaign, Community Stretch Goals that can be completed by doing task on Santet Island Disharmony & Sragen Ndeso Studio social media & Fund Stretch Goals that automatically unlocked when fund raised on this campaign reach a certain amount.

Risks and challenges
There's a lot of risk and challenge that come with developing a game, especially when you try to developing the great one. The main challenge in developing Santet Island Disharmony is to make the player feel the variation that come from randomness element in this game. As a roguelite game, every randomness element must give a positive impact to the game. With over 100 items available in the pool, make all of their effect distinguishable to each other require extra effort. Same issue also occur on enemy & environment randomness, but all of them must be well-delivered because it's the main core of the game.
With all of the randomness element used, the new issue coming up, the balance of the game. It will be pretty difficult to keep all of the item's effect in the same range of usefulness. Some items may better or worse than other items, but we have to make sure the difference is very slightly, so the player won't feel disappointed when they get certain item.
Finally, the last issue on developing Santet Island Disharmony we have to overcome is to polish it into the best quality. Polishing is an another important step to make the players get the best experience of playing. Better polishing of course will need extra time to accomplish.
