About this project
SPQR Games, presents Guild of Shadows, an officially licensed Thieves Guild campaign setting for Savage Worlds. Players take the role of guild members, planning and executing high-end robberies, confidence schemes, smash 'n' grab jobs, information gathering assignments, and even the occasional murder.
The Guild of Shadows campaign setting brings a variety of new thief specialties to the Savage Worlds core rules including smuggler, pickpocket, burglar, swindler, enforcer, spy, and assassin. More than 30 custom Edges and Hindrances also bring these rogues to life.
If you’re a fan of thief-based fantasy such as the Night Angel trilogy by Brent Weeks, Michael J. Sullivan’s Riyria Revelations, or Scott Lynch’s Locke Lamora novels, or if you simply yearn for the old days of the AD&D Thieves Handbook, then Guild of Shadows is for you!
The content in development for this project centers around three main deliverables:
Players Guide - Contains seven new thief specialties, and Edges & Hindrances, as well as ideas for character background and motivation. A special 'Tools of the Trade' section features numerous specialty items of thief equipment. The player guide also features a themed character sheet.
Some additional player content may also be unlocked as stretch goals.
Campaign Guide - The Guild of Shadows campaign takes place in the city of Kurstwahl, which can be dropped into any fantasy world. The background information contains detailed descriptions of notable locations, the city's groups and factions, city watch, other notable NPCs, and of course the guild itself. As with other Savage Worlds campaign settings, a plot-point campaign details a series of interrelated events with enough background information for the games-master to develop them into adventures.
Full Adventures - The plot point campaign is supported by two ready-to-run adventures, complete with NPCs, detailed maps and descriptions, and a storytelling narrative written by Sabine A. Reed, author of The Black Orb and four other fantasy novels.
The first full adventure, 'The Initiate's Path', is an introduction to the Guild of Shadows, which covers the players recruitment, introduction, and first mission for the guild and typically takes 6-8 hours to play. The second adventure, 'The Viper's Nest' involves players in putting an end to a powerful figure with a vendetta against the guild, but first they'll have to discover who this enemy is!
Additional adventures may also be unlocked as stretch goals.
For PDF deliveries, each of these will be a separate file. The physical book will contain all elements in one.
UNLOCKED - $3,000 - special expanded rules for Poison and Disguises will be featured in the Players Guide.
UNLOCKED - $4,000 - we will commission an additional full-spread color image depicting a meeting of the 'Council of Nine', created by SPQR Artist Piero Mng. This image will be provided as a high-res desktop wallpaper as a gift to backers at ALL levels.
UNLOCKED - $5,000 - an additional full length adventure (backers can vote between 3 options).
UNLOCKED - $6,500 - printable maps of three of the city districts, with enough detail to provide many plot points, and even work as a sandbox environment for guild members to create their own 'missions'.
UNLOCKED - $8,000 - Printable battle maps of three key game locations, designed especially with lighting and shadows to facilitate stealth and planning. (Backers will vote between several location options.)
$10,000 - we will add a 'Hall of Fame' to the campaign book, with stats, skills, and traits for famous thieves and rogues from history and legend.
$15,000 - In addition to 'Kurstwahl's Eleven' which was previously unlocked, we will add the other two adventures 'The Way of the Cat' and 'Death From Above' for a total of five full adventures!
Guild of Shadows is a game setting for the award-winning Savage Worlds rule-set published by Pinnacle Entertainment Group. You will need the Savage Worlds Deluxe or Explorer's core books to play the game. If you are not familiar with the Savage Worlds RPG, try out the FREE test drive rules from Pinnacle Entertainment Group's website.
Risks and challenges
We have already completed custom rules, Edges and Hinderances, new thief specialties, some city background, and initial artwork. Our content has been reviewed and approved by Pinnacle Entertainment, and Guild of Shadows is an officially licensed Savage Worlds campaign setting!
Our team of illustrators and writers are dedicated to the project, and ready to go! Our artists Piero Mng and Gary McClusky are both talented and committed (you can preview their work on this page). Writers Sabine Reed and Bret Stewart are both published fantasy authors. Delays, if any, should be minimal. Additional writers and illustrators could be found if needed.
