About

While we prepare to relaunch the Alwasygreen Garden, you can follow along here!

The Alwaysgreen Garden is a clever mix of worker placement, tableau and resource collection, with a pinch of engine building for spice. The game features a dynamic play area that changes with each player interaction as the wandering gardeners move to different garden tiles. Your goal is to harvest ingredients and work with the gardeners to complete recipes and score the most points!

Four modular garden tiles make up the play area with Ollie and his tools positioned at the top. Each garden tile grows different ingredients, Vegetables, Fruit, Fungus and Grains & Nuts. Each turn ingredients grow, dictated by a roll of the garden dice. After all, nature is unpredictable.

Players take turns moving their Chef to different garden tiles, harvesting ingredients and interacting with the Gardeners. On some turns you'll call a Gardener to the square your Chef is on to use one of their special abilities, such as growing extra ingredients or drawing new recipe cards. Other turns you'll move your Chef to the tile where a certain Gardener is so you can deliver a completed recipe to them!

The four gardeners are eager to work with each chef, helping them collect the ingredients and approving completed recipes of their favorite type. While Ollie's tools are always available to help throughout the contest.

Players start the game with Recipe cards, Technique cards and a unique Menu card. Additional Recipe cards and Technique cards can be acquired during play. However, your menu card stays with you throughout play, giving you special end-of-game bonus points for making a certain combination of recipes. Technique cards are played on recipes to enhance them and give you bonus points or give you extra actions and abilities on your turn.

As the gardener animals are called to different tiles and different ingredients grow or are harvested, players have unique options every turn! You’ll constantly be guessing where the gardeners will land and hoping there will be enough ingredients available to complete another recipe. Strategy, clever resource and card management and a bit of luck is needed to ensure you maximize each turn!

To be crowned the Master Chef of Alwaysgreen Garden you’ll need to complete the most delicious recipes, taking care to use desirable gourmet techniques and the forest's best ingredients, while managing your forest kitchen efficiently and keeping close tabs on the cute, but ever wandering Gardeners.

Game ends after a fourth recipe is completed by a single player! This triggers the end game, giving each player two more turns to complete additional recipes and gain more points!

Translations

The Alwaysgreen Garden is largely language independent. Much of the text is to add flavor and interest. The game play is primarily shown through colors, symbols and icons.

We are pursuing options to provide the Alwaysgreen Garden rule book in additional languages.

Darryl T. Jones has been a passionate illustrator and gamer his whole life.  He is most known for creating the Dobbers, the cute and clever gnome-like creatures from the Alwaysgreen Forest. You can find the Dobbers in both a board game and a D&D campaign setting. He has provided illustration and design for other games, such as Freshwater Fly, Into the Black Forest, True Dungeon and Dwarven Forge.

"Darryl is a very professional and highly talented artist with an industry-expected level of technique and experience in many areas of design, from illustration to graphic design, to pre-press, 3d rendering and even game design. Darryl T. Jones is a highly effective artistic professional who understands the demands of the board game industry and is a huge asset to the team." ~ Dennis Hoyle, Belwether Games

Ruth Jones is Darryl's daughter and was a huge part of the game design process. Ruth told me, "I want to make a game about animals harvesting ingredients from a magical garden!" and the Alwaysgreen Garden came to life. Her love of games, nature and animals continuously gave inspiration and meaning to the work of making this game.

Shipping will not be charged as part of this Kickstarter campaign. It will be collected after the campaign ends through our pledge manager. This allows us to both wait to see how much weight is added to each game through unlocked Stretch Goals and to further pursue an optimal postal solution for delivery.

Add-ons, other pledge levels or additional copies of the game will raise the weight and final shipping cost.

We have plans to ship from multiple global hubs with the primary two being in the United States and the United Kingdom.

Risks and challenges

The Alwaysgreen Garden is a unique project and will present unique challenges, however, my experience with product design, project management and product development give me the confidence to produce a high quality game, meet deadlines and communicate with backers in a timely and transparent manner. I would love if everything went smoothly, but if things do not, I am prepared to solve any problem that could arise.

The Alwaysgreen Garden will be manufactured by a reputable company but international shipping always has the potential for delays and complications.

If things run behind schedule, I believe the best approach is to always be up front and communicative with backers. It's my goal to make regular post-campaign updates part of this experience through production and fulfillment in order to keep backers informed of the progress of The Alwaysgreen Garden.
