CONTENT UPDATE: Deep Space Flora and Fauna

Dear Fabular Family,

Our game universe has much more depth and detail than it was possible for us to present in the original campaign pitch. So in order to broaden the horizons of the game world for you, we are planning multiple content updates in the following weeks showcasing exciting, yet unrevealed layers of the game universe through concept art and sketches.

The following content update illustrates a work-in-progress state on how we envision deep space flora and fauna in our fabulous world.

Although Fabular is heavily characterized by its inhabitants being space versions of medieval knights, soldiers or giant castles, not only man-built constructions populate the game world. Our vision for outer space is not empty and lifeless, on the contrary; it is full of life and in the vast reaches of deep space several species of flora and fauna are indigenous.

In the game you will be able to visit nature themed space locations either on illustrated event screens or as fully playable environments. These latter allow us to really flesh out the idea of nature in space with painterly backgrounds and active foreground elements as well that can be interacted with.

In the examples below, you will find some brand new, never before seen locations that tell you about how we envision these environments, and how they affect gameplay.

The Soothing Forest

Enormous woodlands full of life providing habitat for lots species of animals and healing herbs. Apart from angering the occasional Reptoid it is a tranquil area.

Evermisty Forest

A gloomy area forever surrounded by fog-like ion clouds. It is easy to get lost, and without breadcrumbs or The Golden Thread one could go around in circles forever. You should also be careful with the giant mushrooms, because who knows what vile things their spores could do to your ship if you touch them...

Thornroot Thicket

This land welcomes you with open arms - but whether it will release you is the question. Many traveling ships and creatures have found their resting place in the embrace of the Thornroots.

Deep space creatures and critters

When you delve into Fabular’s world, you may fight predators, shepherd herds of Cetfish around and listen to the fatal, seducing song of the Sirens.

Our nature themed environments contain a full ecosystem of indigenous creatures, mostly simple critters wandering the field with no intention of harming you. But be aware, as there are some dangerous predators lurking around that will relentlessly hunt you when provoked. Some of these creatures are better not to be trifled with but they can be used to your advantage as well, such as unleashing them on the enemy or taming them by magical means to follow and fight for you.

The Rockwurm

A huge maggot living in outer space that dwells inside asteroids and rocks, preying on creatures passing nearby. It bursts forward from beneath the surface unexpectedly to claw onto his unsuspecting prey. If it digests enough metal and protein it cocoons and later turns into a harmless deep space Firefly.

Deep Space Dragon (mini-boss)

Several bards sing songs of the hundreds of knights that have fallen against this legendary deep space creature. Rare is the adventurer who had seen a Dragon and was able to tell about it. According to lore this beast wakes from its slumber every 77 years only to go on a feeding frenzy across the galaxy. You’d best not be in its path when it does so.

We think the idea of ‘living-breathing outer space’ adds a new dimension to the universe of Fabular, and - with your help and a successful campaign - we can’t wait to begin turning these concepts into finalized in-game material.

We are also adding final touches to a few brand new tier rewards, so check back on us soon, and keep sharing the word about Fabular’s campaign! :)

See you in the next update!
