About this project
Our gamebooks measure 6.5" square and feature 120 pages of full color, strategic gaming. They feature decision driven games embellished with interactive fiction, meaning that the outcome of your current game can affect future games. Each book features game rules, double-sided game sheets, and thematic fiction. The game sheets are perforated for easy removal and designed with writing (and possibly erasing) in mind.
We dedicate at least 100 pages to game sheets, meaning that depending on the number of players, you could potentially play the game 100 times. This varies depending on the game. Blood Royals features 50 2 player plays. Star Maps has 100-25 plays for 1-4 players. In addition, if you back for a physical copy, you also get the PDF with full color and printer-friendly printing options for unlimited extra game sheets!
These game books change as you play them. Depending on the game, this happens in different ways.
In Blood Royals, players take on the role of would-be monarchs competing for the throne. When you take a game sheet, it marks who you are. You and your opponent will always be political rivals (ex: Ulthar and Theonid). After you play, the winner is significant. In your next game, you'll circle the name of the character who won the last game. In this way, it creates a "lineage" of kings during your campaign. In addition, you'll read the fiction specific to the new King. That fiction will set up the next game, often asking the players to adjust their sheets in some way.
Example: "If Ulthar Won Age I: King Ulthar secured his throne, the power quickly affecting his mind. He ordered the construction of a massive castle situated in the center of Blackwallen and has forbidden the lower class from his capitol, denouncing them as would-be assassins. He sees attempts on his life around every corner as his paranoia grows. As the castle is built, so ages Mad King Ulthar. His ambitious distant cousins, Keltor and Diomel have set plans in motion; the kinds of plans that steal thrones from madmen. Help destroy the castle walls to claim the throne, end the madness and reclaim your family name."
In Star Maps, the book changes in two ways as you play. First, the winner of a game will be able to name a star on a special star map in the book. Eventually, winners will be able to build a constellation using those stars. At the end of the book, this will be your great discovery, the cooperate hard work of all games played and won.
The second way is through technology. Players who don't win can unlock new technology. Unlocked technologies gives Bonuses players can use during the game. In future games, any player can use any available technology. In this way, both the winners and the not-so-winners get to affect the story elements.
Solo players will have a score guide they'll utilize. Depending on how you score, naming stars (making constellations) and unlocking technology will occur. You can absolutely play through the entire book on your own and have quite the achievement-filled game book at the end!
