A proposed witch-themed cafe & barn concert venue in the Pendle area. Read more
As we’ve all noticed over recent times, more and more venues are unfortunately closing their doors, leaving fewer and fewer places to frequent and enjoy in their wake. The main reason this is happening are excessive overheads, forcing people into financial difficulty, which then sees events dwindling and, as I’m sure we’ve all experienced at one time or another, venues becoming badly run to try to cut costs and so the cycle seems to continue. Regardless of the core reasons behind it all, it pretty much spells disaster for the scene, as a whole.
Well, we’re here to change all that by opening a venue unlike any other - Spiderwood Farm, an authentic witch-themed café & barn concert venue in the Pendle area!
Our vision is for an all-in-one venue in an idyllic setting, away from neighbours, with overnight parking and overnight stay facilities, possibly even expanding to include a B&B in time.
The witch-themed café would be perfect for walkers, tourists, locals and regulars alike. With home-cooked food, made using locally sourced produce, all at reasonable prices and amidst an atmosphere of open fires and magical discoveries, we can honestly say this would be no ordinary place to stop for coffee.
As for barn concerts at Spiderwood Farm, they’d most definitely have the WOW factor! Boasting a an intimate, warm and friendly environment but with a combined standing and seated capacity of 300-400 (whereas The Railway is only 200), we’d use top quality sound and lights for a fully immersive experience of both ‘big name’ bands and bands you may not have heard of yet, as we continue our ethos from The Railway by offering regular support spots, meaning we can look after artists as well as our patrons.
But how do the two halves, a café and a concert venue, work together all in one place, you ask?
That’s an easy one: From a delicious dinner to an excellent night out, through to a comfortable overnight stay and all the way to coffee and breakfast the next day, Spiderwood Farm’s got it covered!
Risks and challenges
There are risks and challenges to anything we do in life and we’re not going to deny that but there’s also great success to be had and Spiderwood Farm would certainly fall to the latter!
Jon has owned and run two music venues over the past twelve years, with The Railway making up five and a half of those. In that time, The Railway has been nominated ‘Best Small Music Venue’ by NME and has gained hundreds, if not thousands, of positive testimonials (as you’ll see in our video!) from both customers and bands, including international bands commenting on how it’s been the best venue they’d played in, as well as raving about our sound and lighting equipment and highly complimenting us on our geniality and hospitality.
But all of that doesn’t happen on its own…
To make The Railway into the venue it is today, Jon & Hilary have worked 16 hours a day, 7 days a week and have only had 8 days off in the full five and a half years! It’s a labour of love, of course, but it certainly gives you some idea of the dedication shown, the same dedication that Spiderwood Farm would be shown.
Jon is completely hands-on in bar work, cleaning, poster design, web design, media advertising, publicity, booking & liaising with bands/artists, sound & lighting, staging, background video programming (which is a full-time job in itself!) whilst Hilary, amongst the day to day running, looks after the finances behind-the-scenes. This means standards are high and will stay high as well as giving artists trusted and reliable contacts and customers familiar faces to welcome them.
Keeping all this in mind, we hope you’ll agree with us when we say we have all of the skills, the dedication, the drive and the passion to be able to make Spiderwood Farm the best small venue in the UK, if not Europe, we just need your help to bring it to life!
AND A FEW NOTES:
Every one of our backers, no matter the amount, will receive an invitation to join us at our grand opening remotely via livestream so even if you can’t come to us, we can come to you! (subject to successful test runs before the night itself)
For the most part, we’ve stated we can only deliver items to the UK but we’ll more-than-likely be able to arrange European and worldwide shipping if you let us know in advance.
Please be aware that from £1,500 upwards, we have two separate options for corporate and individual backers; we want to make sure you get the right perks for you!
Due to hosting rules here, we’ve had to cap backer amounts at £5,000 but, if you would like to discuss the possibility of supporting us with a larger amount or an amount other than those we have set out (with a personalised perks package to suit too, of course), please email Kitty directly at firstname.lastname@example.org
