A Wilde Ride

Posted by American McGee (Creator)

A quick update from Shanghai today. We're approaching 60% funding and tracking towards a successful campaign end. Yay for us! Don't relax just yet though. We're entering the most critical phase of the campaign - the last week should be where we push the hardest! So get the message out. Tell your friends, the person taking your order at the drive-through, random people in the bathroom and all your Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, and Vine/Tumblr/Instagram/etc friends!

Now that the begging and pleading is out of the way - it's time for more awesome artwork!

Today's illustration is from Joey (isn't she awesome) and shows the beautiful nightmare landscape that is Oscar Wilde's brain. Who knew the Sarlacc Pit Monster was invented by Wilde? Grrrrr!

Also in the pipeline are Bram Stoker and Sarah Bernhardt - both of which are going to be awesome.

You know... at some point we're all going to have to sit down and talk about which brains to invade first. How many animations we end up with will depend on how much funding we raise, but there are already more brains on offer than our initial goal can cover. If you had to choose 4 brains to start with... what would they be?

Lastly, expect an awesome announcement regarding VO and music in the next couple of days.

From Shanghai with Lulu,

      I really hope this project will be successfull! Thank you, American, for amazing experience of playing Alice when I was a child.

      Like everyone here, I would love to see HP Lovecraft too, but as he wasnt born until 1890 I wasn't sure if he was in the cards. Another creepy but really intruiging mind would be Elizabeth Báthory (The Blood Countess), but she was born in 1560. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elizabeth_B%C3%A1thory

      So, my 4 choices would be: Tesla, Van Gogh, Poe and Bernhardt

      I would love to see Nikola Tesla be featured. His inventions would sometimes arrive to him in thier entirety in his dreams. The massive Tesla Coils he built created pure and utter awesome lightning like displays of generated electrical power.

      He pressed on in spite of Edisons betrayals and publicity campaign against him, even though he lost all his research and equipment in a fire which destroyed his studio. He built towering structures to capture energy to try to actualize his dream of free energy for all.

      He was also perhaps a bit mad, as all good inventors are. He had a phobia of earrings on women, especially pearls, and of germs and wore white gloves a lot of the time.

      Mary Seacole
      Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (his hatred for Sherlock Holmes would make some really interesting exploration for Alice!)
      JM Barrie - or, more interestingly, any of the boys who inspired Peter Pan
      Siegfreid Sassoon - though I understand that would be more difficult, as Alice Liddell was a grown adult when the First World War happened

      I echo the sentiment that Tesla would make a better tech-marvel mind and his bitter struggle til the end with Edison being personification of his problems. Having both of them would be even better.

      I think also having someone from the political or royalty would also be interesting.

      Lovecraft would be interesting (if exploration expand well beyond just shallow borrowing of the old gods), it'd definitely also help expand your audience

      While on track, you're trending lower and lower each day. Time to pick up the pace!

      I think that perhaps placing Edison with Tesla would create an amazing mindscape, with Edison's greed for Tesla's imagination becoming a battlefield of inventions and experiments.
      I Also think that Poe, and Hewlett would round that quartet nicely.

      I'd love to see Tesla, Poe, Verne, and Darwin. Edison's mind would be a boring collection of offices, money and business acumen; not the electricity, light bulbs, and such you might initially suspect. Well I suppose you'd encounter electrocution of puppies and fluffy rabbits in his mind... as he demonstrates the incredible dangers of A/C power.

      Poe, Lovecraft, Wells & Van Gogh.

      Seconding the recommendations others have made for Jules Verne and (if possible) HP Lovecraft (although Wilde's looking like a good alternate if HPL's too late in the time period). After that picture you posted of her and Alice, I'm also all for Hilda Hewlett. And here's my personal longshot request: PT Barnum. His Wikipedia article makes him look very interesting, and if there was any chance he was in the same area as Alice. . .

    13. Sturmadler on

      - Van Gogh
      - Verne
      - Lovecraft
      - Grant

    14. Chris Angelico on

      If you're looking for other people's minds to explore, I'd love to look into one or both of WS Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan. Gilbert, particularly, offers some rather interesting scope - maybe a gravity-reversed scene, since Gilbert is the king of topsy-turvydom?

      Nicola Tesla
      H.P. Lovecraft (may be a bit after the setting)
      Gregori Rasputin (might be able to get in there)
      Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

      Lovecraft, Poe, Stoker get my vote. Happy to be able to back this project, I absolutely love the Alice games, anything to come out of this franchise is bound to be interesting :)

      * Bram Stoker
      * Charles Darwin
      * H.P. Lovecraft
      * Jules Verne

      Looks like a perverted version of a Lords of Gossamer and Shadow picture (a project I backed).

      Yeah, definitely Poe and Lovecraft.

      4 brains to invade you say....hmmm

      Tesla, Lovecraft, Poe, Van Gogh :)

      Wish ya luck

      I think it'd be interesting to do Charles Lutwidge Dodgson's mind, maybe see a crazier alternative form of Wonderland based on what Alice has told him about her experiences. Sigmund Freud would also be someone who's interesting, considering his contributions to psychology. A famous author should be present, such as Verne or HG Welles or someone like that. Definitely love the art that's been depicted though.

      4 brains to invade? Oscar Wilde - Bram Stoker - Edison - Jack The Ripper

    25. Matthew Nigrelli on

      I'm not sure if we are going off the chart you posted or just ideas, I think van Gogh, Edison and Jack the Ripper would be a really neat experience, but I also think Nikola Tesla or Robert Louis Stevenson would be neat. Either way this project is going kick ass and I think I speak for alot of people when I say that I am super excited to be a part of it any way I can! :)

    26. Cassie Trogani on

      Conan Doyle, Van Gough, Bram Stoker, Hilda Hewlett

      "Tell your friends, the person taking your order at the drive-through, random people in the bathroom..........." LOL! Thank you McGee! That might help with getting the word out. Just might! We need more ways to help this KS :-}

      The ART is awesome. Very NICE! It would be nice to RELAX through the last 9 days of this KS, but you're right, we all need to promote this as much as we all CAN. GO ALICE : OTHERLANDS!

    28. Luke Peterson on

      Wow.. this might actually be my fave artwork yet! I hope you're going to offer it as an add-on? As I can't see it on the add-on list yet. Although Bram Stoker or Sarah Bernhardt may top it. Will have to see!

    29. Chris Angelico on

      Four to explore? Verne, Edison, Conan Doyle, Wagner. That would make for some pretty interesting exploration, I think!
