An Electric Update
We are off to an electrifying start! Less than two days in and we've already achieved nearly 25% of our goal - trending towards a great finish. Thank you, everyone, for jumping in so quickly and decisively. From the ashes of Oz will rise the madness of Wonderland. If you ask me, that's a fair trade.
Speaking of Wizards, today's Otherlands concept artwork is a peek inside the mind of one of the most famous to ever come out of America - The Wizard of Menlo Park, Thomas Edison. Prolific inventor of machines and controversies - many of which remain current today (yes, I did). Edison visited London a number of times in the late 1800s - leaving behind some of mankind's earliest vacation home-movies.
Spicy Horse artist Nako rendered this snapshot inside a corner of Edison's mind. The animated journey into this particular subconscious would touch on a dazzling array of inventions, personal feuds and grisly topics - like elephant electrocution. In this way I think the Otherlands project will become part art, part history lesson and part psycho-analytic rendering machine. What better way to time travel than through the surreal representations of the subconscious? We have listed this under the add-ons as a the Edison Canvas Poster for sale for $65. Although the exact dimensions are not yet available, you can expect it to be several feet tall, like the posters available from our Akaneiro: Demon Hunters Kickstarter.
Before you bask in the glow of Alice's latest incandescent adventure, a couple of housekeeping notes:
First, I need to make this crystal clear: The "Otherlands" Kickstarter campaign links to the film/animation rights and animation production ONLY. This campaign has no link to a 3rd Alice game. That being said, I imagine massive support for this campaign would signal healthy interest in the overall property - a signal that could influence people's thinking about the value of the Alice property in general. If you're wanting a game, then please do Alice a favor and show your support here. Angry-faced refusal to support this campaign because it's not a game won't make a game happen faster. Think about it.
Second, we've figured out a way to offer merchandise that doesn't risk getting us in trouble with lawyers. STORYBOARDS! (Thanks, Alex, for the idea!) Each adventure into Otherlands will require detailed storyboard creation prior to production - this is something we have significant experience with from projects like Alice: Madness Returns. So, we're going to offer limited edition, printed, signed storyboards from the Otherlands project. Below you'll see a storyboard from Madness Returns - the opening cinematic "River Raft Ride." We are NOT offering this storyboard - this is just an example. We never intended to sell collectible editions of the A:MR storyboards, so expect the A:OL storyboards to be made much more beautiful - specifically for the purpose of offering them as collectibles I promise they won't disappoint.
To keep them both unique and special, they will be offered as a Storyboard Tier for $500 - limit 100. The tier will include an autographed copy of the numbered storyboard, autographed copy of the DVD, and copy of the art book. Once all 100 of that edition are sold out, a new series will become available for sale. For those who want more than one, we'll see about making additional series available after the Kickstarter but due to KS pledging restrictions, this is how we'll have to do it for now.
Last thing, then you can feast on light bulbs and exploding rabbits - PLEASE help us get the word out about this campaign. Tweet, blog, Facebook about it. Scrawl it on the bathroom wall. Morse code it with butt horn toots. Train your dog to say, "Otherlands" and get him on late night TV!
