Happy Holidays!

Posted by American McGee (Creator)

Dear Insane Children,

I hope wherever you are and whatever you're celebrating, you're having a wonderful time.

Here in China we don't really celebrate Christmas, so it's a normal work week for us - though I will be donning a Santa outfit and making BBQ for everyone at the studio tomorrow. Ho ho ho. :)

Progress on the Otherlands animations continues - with Walter Sickert & the Army of Broken Toys working with Troy and Ed on scoring. Next up, our in-house sound designer Kian will work with the guys on sound effects and audio mixing. Once audio is finished we'll be close to final renders and post processing. Hopefully that will all get done after the holidays (since Walter, Troy, and Ed do celebrate the holidays like the rest of the world).

Work has also started on layout and design for the Art Book and DVD covers. Once those designs are finished, actual factory production time can be anywhere from 30~60 days, depending on what sort of obstacles we encounter during manufacturing. We'll then be able to start mailing physical items!

Before that happens we'll have to discuss digital distribution of the animations. I'll put together a survey to collect feedback on how that might be done. Privately share? Publicly share? Release full res videos to the wild?  These things will eventually be out in the wild anyway, so the question is simply one of timing and initial platforms. Feel free to share ideas in the comments below.

A few other minor updates:

Progress on the feature film side of things has slowed to a crawl. Some pretty unbelievable things have happened on that front, but it's still not an appropriate time to share, though I am dying to get the story out there. Soon...

Majority of questions about the campaign still fall into two categories:

1) How can I change my address? Answer: Please use

2) Will I be able to buy stuff if I missed the original campaign or can I add stuff to my order? Answer: Not at this time, largely depends on how feature film project negotiations develop as larger rights are attached to those negotiations.

Any other questions or comments you need to get in front of me, please send a message directly via Kickstarter. I personally read and respond to all messages sent to me that way.

Every update makes me more excited for this project. I do very much lament that I was not able to raise my pledge, however. I want one of the art books so very badly

Unbelievable as in positive or negative? slowing to a crawl sounds negative by itself... Like all of a sudden you got a huge source of capital!!! or all of a sudden someone else wants the rights!!

Now these are wonderful news. Seems that you had a very enjoyable bbq time, glad you did! Hope you had wonderful holidays too! :)

About the distribution, I do agree with everything that Adrian Tai suggests. I think as well that we as backers deserve to have a private link share FIRST, with 1080p res if possible please.
      Can't wait the release!!

I'm very curious about this feature film, that by the way, if you still are considering actresses, I think it would be very interesting to see Kaya Scodelario as our beloved Alice! or even Lily Cole could work. But well, only time will tell. Cheers!!

Happy new year to you all! :D

My idea would be using GoG for video as their store is still sorta new. And that could create a partnership down the road.

The video has to be full 1080p/widescreen.

      +1 to Adrian Tai

I like the idea of full HD release onto YouTube and such, it might get some more Alice fans! There's probably lots of people who don't even know about Alice but would appreciate it.

since you are being very practical and do realise that the downloads will eventually be in the wild, perhaps you can capitalise on that as well? make a hi-res copy (with water marks to the website) be available on YouTube? this way, your server should not get bogged down with download requests. your server can just be for backers only. but yes, no doubt some may still share that link... but at least you'll already have got YouTube as a feasible alternative.

and if you do consider 'digital markers' on the videos (to identify the copy), i do hope they are 'invisible'. i definitely don't want to see some warning/ notice zipping across the screen on my copy! :)

      lastly, Merry Christmas!!!

Will you be wearing a beard with your santa outfit or would it just end up covered with barbecue?

Just hearing about how much progress has been made is a good enough Christmas present for me, so thanks!

A Santa outfit and a barbecue? Sounds like an Aussie Christmas!
