Open Beta - Build Update

Greetings Backers, Collectors and Demon Smashers,

It's Monday in Shanghai, but at least it stopped raining. Today, I'm bringing you news about the campaign, a game update and an additional tier/add-on. Who says Mondays are all bad?

The Campaign. Reaching towards $70k on our way to the $200k goal and things are looking good! For those of you concerned about our ability to achieve the final goal, a couple of things to keep in mind. Middle of campaigns tend to be slow, so we'll see a natural increase in support around the end. More importantly, this week Valve announces the next round of games selected for Steam through Project Greenlight. With Akaneiro currently sitting at #3 it's pretty much certain we'll be in the announcement - which will result in a HUGE flood of interest from Steam users. Assuming we're selected, we'll also push to publish the game on Steam by January 24th, which will result in even more exposure for the campaign. Still, you can do you part by blogging, Facebook-ing, tweeting and streaking around your neighborhood naked while screaming, "Akaneiro!!"

The Game. The team is about to drop a big update on the servers. Expect it within the next few hours. It contains a long list of fixes based on feedback from Open Beta testers like you. Expect to see these issues addressed:

• We fixed the full screen bug • Press "M" and "Esc" will enter Full screen • Add a bug report button for client version in Game options • Add game exit confirm popup • Area 5 Level art update • Some collision fixes for all mission maps • Consumables updated (Food descriptions and effects) • Pepper cost change • Ability tuning • Reduce overall loot drops • Increase chance of higher quality loot drops • Chance for bosses to drop more loot • Update Area unlock pricing • Less karma for Transmuting items • Update player HP curve • General bug fixing

Last but not least, an additional tier and add-on. The new add-on is a hard-copy "Art of Akaneiro" book to be produced in the US. We're in talks with Dark Horse about this project - but have found an alternate means of getting it done if Dark Horse aren't able to participate on this one. (Fingers crossed for Dark Horse though, we really like working with them!) For the new limited availability tier, I've got some *tiny* mini-mate Alice toys which were produced in limited quantities for San Diego Comic Con. Picture below.

@Disposable, Just the art book would require a $20 pledge + the art book. Can you manage this?
@Stuart, Kickstarter doesn't make it easy to deal with product we have limited quantities of. It's either/or, unfortunately. And with Alice merchandise, it's all limited.

These items could have been done as add-ons, but there were limited copies, so I'm not sure there was a good solution for getting them in addition to a specific other tier you wanted.

I did a test of the game client on my mac, if anybody wants to see it. Works great! http://www.youtube.com/watch…

Thanks American, I jumped over to the mini-mate level figuring there would be someway to make it work.

@Stuart and Kabraxis, yup, had to leave another limited tier to do the mini-mate. I figured I was going to end up uping my pledge in the end anyway and to a non-limited one so it didn't really hurt that much though.

Yes, that appears to be a little problem with Kickstarter and limited tiers.... you can only have one. While this is only fair on the one hand, so everyone can get something, ... it's hard to see you cannot get an Alice fan package including the game *and* a mini-mate. :D

If you are going to keep adding little bits and pieces, including exclusive items that arnt given to the other tiers, please see if their is a way to talker the buy in system, I put in for the signed PC Alice2, then put in for the $10 Alice figure as well, the system then dropped the AlicePC game, thankfully I spotted this before someone else re-picked it up, and created a second account.. but its a bit of a hassle as all the pledge options are listed as radio buttons, maybe the the ones that arnt inclusive could be listed as check boxes?

first of all, you guys do a great job, i'm on your back, watching your every moves, ready to jump on the final release (even if i enjoy the beta for the moment :p)
i'm very interested in the art book, but can't pledge this amount
instead of all the goodies in game, i prefer to have the art book
think you can make a pledge like that ?

    8. Creator American McGee on January 14, 2013

@Mark, pledge for the alice + the tier amount. Then when the survey comes around at the end of the Kickstarter, indicate what the extra amount is for.

OK, but how does one go about getting the alice and a tier?
