Our adventure so far...
We honed the game with the original winner of Spiel des Jahres. We had our creative story picked up by the BBC. We worked part time. We have tested and painted and designed like crazy!
Now you can help our adventure continue! If you fund us, we will send you one awesome game (or much, much more...).
An introduction to the Crystal Hall board game...
The objective is simple. Somewhere among 36 facedown tiles are 4 magical crystals. The first player to visit each of these tiles and extract the crystals is the winner.
The twist? There are more than just crystals under the tiles…cauldrons, potions, curses, even enchanted swamps await your discovery.
The other twist? You’re wizards and witches! You have lots of disruptive spells up your sleeves and you’ll certainly use every bit of magic you can muster to get those crystals.
What are the basic rules?
A turn has 4 Phases:
1. Tile Effects Phase- in which crystals are extracted and cauldrons increase magic power and any other tile effects occur.
2. Magic and Moving Phase - in which your wizards move, use abilities and combine spells.
3. Tile Flipping Phase- in which pieces upon unflipped tiles discover what tile they are on, by flipping it over..
4. Draw Phase- in which players draw a new spell card to help them on their quest.
The first player who has extracted four crystals (red, blue, yellow, green) is the winner.
So what’s Crystal Hall about? It’s about being creative and logical on an exciting quest.

Why are we using Kickstarter?
We want to share this exciting project with as many people as possible because we are passionate about sharing fun experiences.
If we can sell 100 games then we can get a good enough price from our suppliers to cover our costs and distribute it.
We have enjoyed playing the game with prototypes, but we would really love to get better versions of all the components.
If we can achieve our stretch goals, we can create a beautiful and truly delightful product.
We would especially like to hit the stretch goals for getting 3D printed mini witches and wizards- because this would simply be the magic touch which would make this game perfect!
What are our Stretch Goals?
If we hit the following levels of funding, we will improve the game even more.
1. £3,750: Basic Version of Game is funded
2. £5,000 Art Upgrade: Updates to Spell Artwork and Board Artwork (so that they are of equal standard to the box cover piece)
3. £10,000 Piece Upgrade 1: 3D Printed Wizard Figurines in all games
4. £15,000 Piece Upgrade 2: 3D Printed Witch and Wizard Figurines in all games
5. £18,000 Piece Upgrade 3: 3D Printed Crystals in all games
Background
Myself (John) and 3 of my magical chums- Luke, Ben and Maren have really enjoyed putting this together and we want you to be a part of it
I have been a feature in the BBC's Get Creative Campaign (before the game was called Crystal Hall):
http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p03sh1r9
We wanted to create a game that would have the three ingredients that we think make for a really great game: high interactivity, surprises every turn and a chance to use both sides of the brain.
How did we come up with the idea?
Ben and Luke inspired the key mechanics of movement in the game. One day John asked the question "What if we had fireballs?".
A couple of months later we had a plethora of spells causing mayhem in the game and we loved testing it. Then the crystals idea emerged, and the tile flipping and we new were on to something. We saw that Kickstarter was a great way to share projects like this and we thought- let's go for it!
John started working a 4 day week at his accountancy day job so he could lead the project. He spent his Wednesdays refining artwork and meeting board game legend David Parlett (the very original Spiel des Jahres winner) for advice on development. Through these conversations the spells were honed, the tiles were developed and the play experience refined.
Now we have a game that we keep finding new interesting nuances in and keep coming back for more.

Play-Testing
We have play-tested the game to death. Much help from friends and family. We have tested with children aged as young as 10 (Josh from Croydon), gaming veterans like David Parlett and professional gamers like John Atkinson. They like it and we think you will too!
Prototypes- we have gone through 4 prototype of the game (2 professionally produced). Our belief in regular prototyping ensures we identify quality issues early. We have taken pleasure and pride in creating good quality products.
Project Management
I (John) am an ICAEW exam qualified accountant. I believe I am suited to face challenges presented by the project. I believe in being fair to everyone I conduct business with. My team mates, Luke, Ben and Maren are all highly talented young professionals and would equally strive to do what is best for our customers.
Furthermore, our buoyant passion for all things game related will ensure we never lack the enthusiasm to resolve any challenges that arise.
