What is a prototype?

A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:

Proof of Concept

Explorations that test ideas and functionality.

Functional Prototype

Demonstrates the functionality of the final product, but looks different.

Appearance Prototype

Looks like the final product, but is not functional.

Design Prototype

Appearance and function match the final product, but is made with different manufacturing methods.

Production Prototype

Appearance, function, and manufacturing methods match the final product.

About

First of its kind, weighted compression mittens! These mittens were lovingly designed to make special needs children feel more safe and secure with their surroundings. These mittens may help Attention Deficit-Hyperactivity Disorder, Sensory Processing Disorder, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder children relax, focus and function during uncomfortable moments. Our patent pending design features, 1oz, 2oz or 3oz, weighted plastic pellets (based on size) and an elastic Velcro band that provides compression to the P-6 pressure point in the wrist. Experts state that putting pressure on the P-6 point can relieve anxiety, depression and even nausea.

When all else fails, look to Juliet, she loves them!

We are currently working with different manufactures and distributors to find the best possible price point. We want to retail these mittens at the most reasonable cost so all special needs families can afford them. It has come to our attention, too often weighted and compression items are astronomically expensive and out of the affordable range of most American families. There is no reason for it and we want to change that!

We make no claims that this item will benefit all children. It has helped Juliet tremendously with being able to relax, focus and accept affection. Please do not allow children to wear these mittens in the pool, tub or anywhere around water. Do not allow children to wear for extended periods of time, 10-15 minute intervals or on an as needed basis. We do not recommend allowing your child to sleep with the mittens. Consult your doctor or Occupational Therapist if you have any questions regarding weighted items. Juliet's Sensory Lifestyle LLC is not responsible for abuse or misuse of items.

Risks and challenges

Should our manufacturer of choice fall through, we will have an alternate in place. We anticipate being able to fulfill orders within 8-12 weeks, but we should note that forecasting demand is an inexact science. If order volumes exceed our expectations, it might take longer to fulfill requests.
