About this project
Who you are supporting:
We are worst enemies turned best friends who have found everything in our lives can be made into a competition. We've combined our love of competition with our love of art to create Sparr Games. We make games. That’s who we are.
What you are supporting:
A card game with intuitive and unique gameplay that’ll bring your friends close and your enemies closer. Steal the most valuable collection from the Museum, foil opponents’ attempts to do the same and escape without getting caught. The game is simple to learn but difficult to master. However, with a little practice and some luck, you might just be a Master Thief.
How To Play the Game:
Master Thieves begin every turn by stealing items from the Museum. Museum Cards are designed with way-finding to guide your actions throughout the game. Action Cards represent what you’re up to in the darkness of the Museum, like sneaking, swiping, stashing and stealing. But while you're collecting loot, remember to keep a close eye on the remaining time and the alerted Security to plan the perfect getaway. Escape from the Museum with the most valuable works of art, and pull off the grandest heist of all time!

What’s Different about Master Thief?
When designing the functions of Master Thief we used probability matrices to craft the most variety and build the most tension. The game is meant to incite visceral emotion from its players and even a few arguments.
Some combinations of cards and items offer interesting strategies that are purposefully left vague, this allows for what we’re calling The Jury of Thieves. In a Jury of Thieves players are given the chance to decide the fate of their opponents and their actions by majority vote. This is a great way to earn your opponents’ trust and an even better way to make enemies.
In the museum you’ll also be able to steal charmed items. Charms provide new and exciting ways to manipulate the functions of the game. We’re very excited about these in particular, because they have allowed us the opportunity to explore the use of specialty printing with AdMagic. Standard items in the museum will give the illusion of a dark and stealthy heist, but the Charmed items will shimmer with a golden hue using holofoil applications.
We are determined to have exceptional quality throughout. Matte finished cards and packaging, and vivid process printing will make the game not only fun to play, but fun to show off. We believe our extra attention to detail will do justice to the beautiful works of art featured in Master thief.
Rewards for Backers
We have several backer rewards lined up for you to choose from, whether you simply want to snag a copy of the game, or you're feeling dangerous enough to try our first expansions!
We Are Fully Funded!
Thank you so much for all your support, but we're not done yet. We have some amazing new stretch goals that we believe will add to the Master Thief experience, and its unique display of artwork from around the world.
Stretch Goal #1 | $30,000 | The Thieflet
For the knowledgeable thieves! If funding surpasses $30,000, we will begin work on what we are calling “The Thieflet”. This will be an online database of all museum items that are currently found in Master Thief. Once completed, you’ll be able to find The Thieflet at sparrgames.com/masterthief.
Stretch Goal #2 | $40,000 | Additional Cards
For the covetous thieves! If funding surpasses $40,000, we will add more cards to the Cursed Item and Kickstarter Exclusive expansions! The Cursed Item expansion will receive an additional 11 cards, bringing its total to 18 cards. The Kickstarter Exclusive will receive an additional 14 cards, bringing its total to 24 cards.
Stretch Goal #3 | $50,000 | Hand-painted Museum Cards
For the authentic thieves! If funding surpasses $50,000, we are going to add a extra level of quality to the artwork in Master Thief. Currently, the artwork featured was created in photoshop, altering images in the public domain or purchased stock. If we reach this stretch goal, we will commission local artist Aaron Pickens to hand paint all the items in found in the game. This includes all expansions currently available, as well as expansions yet to be released! We believe this will add so much to the unique design of the cards and do further justice to the beautiful pieces they represent. Check out his work, and hopefully you'll be just as excited as we are to invite him to be a member of the Sparr team.
Our greatest dream in creating Master Thief is partnering with Museums around the world. We want to create Specialty Museum Exhibits featuring exclusive artwork from their private collections. If you have a Museum that you would like to see in a deck of Master Thief, let us know in the comments section and we will send them an invitation. Our goal is to infect people with the desire to see the most beautiful artwork in the world and to enjoy a game among friends. We want to promote museum visitation and collection, as this is the game that brings the museum to you.
Much like the Jury of Thieves, our success or failure will be decided by you. By backing us, you are not only supporting Master Thief but also our dreams as game makers. By funding this game, you are fueling our confidence that we are right to pursue our passion. We will continue putting out the best games possible, and if you like playing Master Thief, wait until you see what’s next.
Risks and challenges
To ensure reliable delivery we’ve partnered with one of the most reputable game manufacturers in the world. The biggest challenge for us would be if your demand blew us away, in which case we would double our efforts. We’ll keep backers posted on progress at least once every two weeks. We’re committed to bringing you the highest quality cards in a timely fashion and will take whatever additional steps necessary to ensure your satisfaction.
If we are successfully funded, we plan to move immediately into the production phase. We expect our product to be completed and shipped within 3 months of funding. Of course problems may arise, but we are well suited to handle any issues as they appear. We plan well in advance, which is why we are only now bringing this to Kickstarter after every piece of art and text has been finalized. If there are any complications, we will inform all backers and follow up with updates as they come.
We believe in this game. And we want to know if you do, too. Message us if you have any questions, we will more than be happy to answer them.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
