A smörgåsbord of updates
Hi backers! We're 6 days into our 30 day campaign, and we just hit a big milestone: $50,000+ raised from 650 backers! Thank you all for your support; we're very excited about the progress we've made. However we've still got a long way to go!
We're gonna cover a few things in this update, so scroll down for more about:
- What to expect from our updates
- T-shirt design
- Our live demo, #hellospark
- What we need to hit our goal, and how you can help
- What about multiple Spark Sockets?
What to expect from our updates
By backing our project, you're helping us make our product, the Spark Socket, a reality. And we are endlessly grateful. In exchange you'll get the rewards we've detailed on the campaign page, but in addition, you've become a part of our team. We will be sending regular updates on our development: twice a week during the Kickstarter campaign for the next 24 days, and regularly but less frequently during the following months while we complete development of and manufacture the product. Tell us if you want more updates, and tell us if we're getting spammy.
We will be candid, honest, and transparent with how things develop. There will be good news and bad news along the way; we'll have landmarks to celebrate and setbacks to overcome. And you'll be along for the ride. Thanks for joining us on this adventure.
Specific examples of things we'll cover in updates will include:
- Announcements of partnerships and collaborations
- Pictures and videos of demos
- Pictures and videos of manufacturing stuff (factory visits, tooling, etc.)
- Answers to common questions
If there are other things you'd like us to share, let us know in the comments!
So you ordered a T-shirt? Well they're gonna be awesome. Here's what they'll look like:

Our live demo, #hellospark
If you haven't already seen it, we've got a live demo up in our office. You can check it out by visiting http://www.sparkdevices.com/demo, and it works through Twitter: if you tweet #hellospark, the lights will flash in our office, and they flash longer and brighter if you've got more followers! You can watch the flash via webcam. It's all pretty fun and silly, but it also shows the power of the system, and how easy it is to connect Spark to other online services through our API. In fact, the code for the demo is open source, and can be found at Github for those who are so inclined.
What we need to hit our goal, and how you can help
We're making great progress against our goal, but we've got a long way to go! We need your help to get us there. If you've got some extra time and energy, there's a few things you can do to help us:
- Tell your friends and family about our Kickstarter campaign
- Post our campaign on Facebook and Twitter
- Tweet at our live demo, #hellospark (above)
- Email your favorite blogger/journalist and tell them about our campaign, or submit it via their tip line
What about multiple Spark Sockets?
We've gotten a lot of questions about purchases for multiple Spark Sockets. One of the best things about this product is how they work together, and we would love to provide a way for you to purchase more than one! Unfortunately, Kickstarter disallows us from providing a pledge level for purchasing multiple units.
Some of you have already pledged more than the required amount for the pledge level at which you've backed. We appreciate the support, and we feel personally obligated to send an additional Spark Socket for every additional $59 you've pledged. Do keep in mind that you can update your pledge amount at any time before the campaign closes on December 13.
In addition, we will eagerly provide a way for you to purchase more Spark Sockets as soon as the campaign has closed, and our Kickstarter backers will always be first in line for purchases and support!
Thanks for your support and stay tuned for some exciting announcements soon!
