About this project
We are the Makem and Spain Brothers; two sets of brothers who performed as separate acts before coming together to form one band in 2003.
While our professional history dates back only 8 years, our friendship dates back twice that long and our love of singing songs, even further. Growing up, folk music was a staple in both of our families so as you would probably guess, it was instilled in all of us at a very early age. Though we didn’t realize it at the time, it was this introduction to these songs that would prove be the contributing factor to us meeting and becoming a band.
When we started discussing songs for our new recording project, it became clear to us that the folk song tradition is a shadow of its former self. The songs that helped shape us and those before us seem to be fading into obscurity and we feel that they are far too important to be forgotten.
In this project, we are going to get together to sing those old songs with some of the artists who shaped us. Including (in alphabetical order)
The Shaw Brothers
Noel Paul Stookey
We would like to use the excitement and magic of a song session to not only keep these songs alive but to further their existence by introducing them to a new audience.
It’s our hope that you will help us in our endeavor.
