May 1st Update: Sound design for the Nostrodomus explosion

Hey everyone! We are super excited about all the positive feedback involving the last update, which featured Nurb's Landing. I'm really hoping to show you some more epic scenes like that in the near future.

Before I get into the goings on I wanted to say this. Just so everyone knows, we are working on a delivery date. We are not ready to give one yet. Please continue to be patient. Many people have made it VERY clear in our comments that they want to know when the game will be released. Don't think for a second we aren't aware of that.

Please just stay tuned. We know some of you are frustrated. We are working as hard and fast as we can, but are also pushing for a very high quality product that we know you're gonna love. On the flip side, we are very focused and will NOT let anyone or anything cause us to put out a half baked product. The dates we are considering for release may not be as far out as some of you think. As you can imagine, we have one shot to make an amazing game. SpaceVenture will set the bar on quality for future games we try to release, and we aim to make it great and to leave you all wanting more!

The last couple of weeks we have made progress on some pretty cool things. A major push on Ace animations have been made as of late and we can now animate Ace doing everything from climbing walls and tip toeing around corners to dancing gangnam style if we want! We've also made major progress on some tricky puzzle work in the game. The Saving/Loading system for SpaceVenture has also gotten some love and it's coming together nicely.

Ken Allen, composer from Space Quest 4 along with many other Sierra titles, not to mention our sound engineer and music composer for SpaceVenture has put together some really cool stuff for me to share with you on this update!

Remember this explosion scene we showed you awhile back?

Ken spent some of his own personal time putting together a video of himself walking everyone through how he went about doing the sound design for that scene. This video is very informative and gives you a look into how he goes about picking the right sounds for the different scenes in the game.

We hope you enjoy his little tutorial! :)

Thanks for all of your support everyone!

The development is my favorite part. I loved the video, these behind the scene peeks are awesome.

Really appreciate the updates & please, take the time you need and can afford.
@everyone below: Yep, definitely - couldn't have said it better myself. ;-)
@BigD That might be a few beers Riggo enjoys. Good on ya buddy. You're definitely taking one for the team. :D

I don't care if I have to wait a long time for this. Take as long as you need.

    8. Creator Porcupine on May 2, 2014

Oh, you know you blew it, don't you? Now we just have to have Ace do a bit of gangnam dance as an easter egg somewhere... :P

    9. Creator BigD on May 1, 2014

Thanks for the update. Sure I want the game but I too would rather have a well done game. And don't worry about Riggo, I'll distract him with beer!

      Awesome update, thanks :)

As for release dates - Not stressed. I donated towards a good game, not a quick release schedule. Like Mike said - we've got plenty to get on with, just don't go radio silent on us.

      Love your work.

At this point, I don't really mind if it slips into 2015. I know Chris, Mark and Scott will do this work justice, no matter how long it takes. These bi-weekly updates adequately keep our appetites wet, and as Michael Hartmann already said, there is no shortage of other adventure games to play in the meantime. I am still working on Moebius: Empire Rising (Chapter 5 as of this writing) and have yet to start on Broken Sword 5: Episode 2. Looking forward to playing Tex Murphy: Tesla Effect, too. It is a great time to be an adventure gamer! In the words of Leslie Nielsen in the cult classic Airplane, "I just want to tell you both good luck. We're all counting on you!"

Ken, thanks for taking the time to make this behind-the-scenes clip

    13. Creator Dan Sanderson on May 1, 2014

Really enjoyed Ken's tutorial! More like this, if you can afford it.

    14. Creator snabbott on May 1, 2014

Sure, a release date would be nice, but I'm much more interested in the game being done right! (And I'm glad the Guys feel the same way.) All in good time... :)

    15. Creator Justin on May 1, 2014

I know "some people" are demanding a release date. But I see more people saying things like TAKE YOUR TIME. Of which , I agree. I don't care about a release date. You know your budget. You have to make it work. Do what you need to do. I couldn't care less about the .001% demanding anything.

    16. Creator Raiden on May 1, 2014

I wouldn't mind a very vague window of a potential release date, like Q3 2014, just to have an inkling of when to anticipate it. Other than that I'm happy to wait for it to be finished and polished to Scott & Mark's high standards.

    17. Creator ThomasN on May 1, 2014

To the ones demanding a release date: They said Feb2013 and it was wrong. Why do you think they will be right with another date?
To the other ones: I've been waiting for 19 years, that extra time now is NOTHING.

    18. Creator Two Guys From Andromeda on May 1, 2014

      Haha sure thing Riggo! ;)

    19. Creator Riggo - Bards of Skara Brae $4.99 on May 1, 2014

Take as much time as you need... As long as we get the game tomorrow! ;-)

    20. Creator flesk on May 1, 2014

Agreed. I'm excited about the game, but I rather you spend the time you feel is necessary to make something you're proud of than rush out something just to satisfy what I believe is a loud and impatient minority.

    21. Creator Michael Hartmann on May 1, 2014

Yes, take as much time as you need. Quality is important and a rushed release will get us a SpaceVenture game, but a good release will possibly get us more than one. And right now there is not exactly a shortage of new adventures to play. Moebius and Broken Sword 5 are already available and Tex Murphy: Tesla Effect is only a few days away.

    22. Creator David Van Buren on May 1, 2014

Please take as much time as you need :)
