Apr. 1st Update: The SpaceVenture First Person Shooter Strategy Puzzle Game!

Posted by Two Guys From Andromeda (Creator)

Hello ladies and gentle backer people! We have big news to share involving SpaceVenture. We have decided to change the game type of SpaceVenture from an adventure Sci-Fi comedy to a Fantasy based drama first person shooter strategy puzzle with an adventure game twist, all the while battling endless hordes of zombies on April Fools day!

We just have a small tidbit to share during this update, albeit it's a pretty epic tidbit!

Well we're super excited to announce that the character script is getting closer to completion and we are gonna be going into the studio soon for our first session to record with our voice actors!! I have already personally gotten to meet with the amazing Rob Paulsen and he did a read through of one of our characters live on camera. I'll be sharing this video eventually. It will also be in our behind the scenes materials that we are putting together.

We have big news coming up in the not too distant future on the release of SpaceVenture, so stay tuned for that. For now, if you are still confused on why we are running so far behind, you can check out this link.

Prepare your audio receptive organs for part two of the Fan Fiction Theatre! In this episode, pleasant vocal provider Joe Cassara once again regales us with Roger Wilco’s tales in long-form prose — this time we will hear excerpts from the unfinished SQ3 and SQ5 novels, written in another lifetime by the Historian himself, as well as the novel Lone Voyager, set in the SQ6 universe, by the Historian and Leonard Kramer. But it’s not all nostalgia: We also get the first of hopefully many chapters of Josh Henry’s original tale of Sierra fandom, read by the author himself, and including a special introduction by the man. Find a nice place to recline, pour yourself something liquid (or at least mildly viscous), close your eyes and dream yourself away to a distant galaxy. Or at least get a start in on that washing-up as you’re listening to this. Really, your kitchen is filthy.

@Chelle - Yes to confirm. It was an April Fools joke involving the multi-player thing. We apologize for the confusion. We were just trying to take advantage of it being April 1st. :)
@Jason - More substance coming, but the last two weeks have been mostly under the hood stuff and meetings about character scripts. Didn't have anything visual that I was allowed to show you guys this time around. -Chris Pope

Lately, these "updates" are more like ads for the podcast. I'm excited for the game and you can take all the time you need, but please give us real updates.

Lack of substance has been an ongoing issue with SpaceVenture's communications side. It's a product of their "two updates a month" response to complaints of months of silence.

I wouldn't worry too much about "episodic". Unless the project scope has changed dramatically, it's not a format that would work with the project pitched, not to mention they'd have a PR nightmare on their hands.

I suspect the "big news" is going to be something more along the lines of Steam's "early access" since they're having serious budget issues and undoubtedly would like the cash infusion anticipated from selling access to a work-in-progress.

Wait, SpaceVenture is NOT a fantasy football game? I feel so mislead!

Seriously, much love to you guys. I know you all have been working hard and uncompromisingly toward breathing life into a whole new universe of interstellar hilarity and I'm ecstatic to be a backer!

I was hoping for Nazi Zombies in space. With side games like Temple Run or Candy Crush Saga (insert copyright infringement joke here). And arcade sequences. Lots and lots of arcade sequences.

@Chelle: not sure if you are kidding, but I am pretty sure that was an April Fools' Day joke in the update. The game will be an adventure sci-fi comedy, I'm sure.

Are you serious....????? First person shooting game??? Doesn't make me happy. I would like my money refunded as I wanted the old indie type adventure game, no shooting. Sorry but I feel cheated!!! What makes you think we all want shooting games, those are boring and mindless, not to mention violent! No offense, but you have the wrong idea about what people may want in general.

There really wasn't any substance to the update here. However, the podcast, as always, is marvelous.

I would have liked to have seen more art or something. I hope the upcoming announcement isn't that the game will be episodic. Please, not that.

In any case, I am very excited about the game, and don't mind waiting a long time to get it!

First person shooter is a good start. When you say fantasy, can that be like fantasy football? The fans would really like SpaceVenture more if it were like Madden or had Madden elements. Do the market research and you'll see that I'm right.
