When I started writing the Bug War series, I've always had an idea in mind of how to end it.
Make100 has given me an opportunity to put together a campaign with a limited physical print run for the conclusion (for now, anyway!) of this series.
Our team has decades of combined experience in creating universes and bringing them to life through various media. We're all here because we love doing exactly that, and because we hope you'll join us for the ride!
This comic is the best of the series, rounding off the story nicely. It will be available digitally for ever, but this Kickstarter offers an opportunity to fans - both new and existing - to get one of the few physical copies that will ever exist!
As for the story, it is the final piece of the puzzle for the Bug War's beginning...
Being the smartest person in the room rarely is as big a help as you'd think, especially when you're not the person in charge.
When Eric Hale finds the exact moment that could change the course of the war, will he let his Captain make the wrong choice, or will he save billions of lives at the cost of his friends, family and career?
And that brings us to the Bug War comics. Era: The Consortium's Sci-Fi universe is expansive, but there's a strong theme around the impact of individuals on the shape of the timeline. This makes it the perfect type of story to tell in a comic format - a method that's unparalleled for showing the thoughts and feelings behind the events that occur.
In The Bug War #1, we introduced Hai Xang Hayden, a party girl who finds she has to grow up faster than she had expected, or wanted too, culminating in her declaring war on the aliens who took her mother from her.
The Bug War #2, her agent, Liam, was sent to find out more about their enemy, and we saw how outclassed humanity truly was against their chosen foe.
And thus, the end begins in...
Mobilisation: The Bug War #3
This is the turning point where whether or not Humanity will stand or fall against the onslaught of the enigmatic Ximians will be decided.
If you missed out on the previous issues, don't worry! You can get the whole story from rewards in this Kickstarter ($7 for Digital, $20 for Physical).
Mobilisation: The Bug War #3 is the story of a young man destined for greatness... if others had not taken the credit for his successes:
Second in command of the Retribution, part of a fleetdefending the wormhole, Eric Hale is faced with a crew that doesn't listen, a captain that steals his scotch, and a corporate rather than military leadership, all while the wave of war breaks across his bow.
Ed Jowett is a creator of worlds and characters who has a seemingly unlimited supply of new ideas. The start of the Bug War is one of the most intense points in the history of the Consortium which he has created and he jumped at the chance to tell Hai-Xang Hayden and Liam Paine's stories!
Johnathan Lewis has been writing comics for over fifteen years, and has been working with SoV Comics since it began! His writing credits include a large variety of comics, particularly some of the best comics we have ever produced as a group, as well as work on Era: The Consortium!
Brian Brinlee has brought the universe to life with his wonderful pencils and inks before and he's back to do it again. The second half of Liam's story brought a new challenge to his storytelling, as the story reached into space battles and even orbital bombardment for the first time, but it looks amazing!
All our comics began with this one. A group of Resistance fighters attempt to foil a plot which will otherwise cost 14 billion lives.
The comic that started off the trilogy of comics this part 2 of. It's brought to by the same team of Johnathan, Ed and Brian that are bringing you Bug War 2, and focuses on the rise of Hai-Xang.
Continuing where Bug War #1 left off, it's the tale of a spy studying the Ximians as they gear up for their war.
Coming back from the future, a team of elite soldiers try and change the past to make the Consortium stronger. Arriving, they find they've already failed once and a single man has been sent back to help them succeed... this time.
Teenagers often feel they're invincible and can do anything, until the world shows them the reality of mortality. When Lacuna faces that realisation, will it break him and end his hero career forever, or will a dashing young woman be enough to awaken the hero within?
In a world quite like ours, a group of people have become Empowered beyond anything human has been before. Some have risen as heroes while others... just want to have fun!
The second of Penumbra's comics is the story of the Mistress of Shadows meeting her greatest foe yet: a lagomorph with great night vision! Will she be able to defeat this unknown enemy?
Separating friends from enemies is hard enough, but when the city is at stake, even speedsters don't always have the time they need! Blue-Shift is a charismatic and enthusiastic hero. When she heads out to stop a bank robbery, she had no idea what she was getting into...
Despite working to prove herself through stopping crimes all over the city, the police still frown on Violete's activities. She had no idea one of the criminals she caught would be changed into the supervillain Rampage, biologically enhanced for one purpose: to defeat her…
Risks and challenges
Shades of Vengeance has run over 30 crowdfunding campaigns on Kickstarter, between SoV Comics and Shades of Vengeance.
While we haven't been mistake-free, we've always delivered on or ahead of time (except for two occasions, where a delay was agreed with Backers to give them more content!).
We use each successive Kickstarter to build on the lessons learned from the previous, and we learn fast. At this point, we're confident in our ability to deliver the rewards we're committing to and to keep you informed if there are any delays.
The comic is already completed - all we need to do is fund a print run for the backers who pledge to this project and then distribute the comics - something we have a lot of experience in!
We're dedicated first and foremost to continuing to deliver the best material we can, and secondly to bring it to you on time. We hope you'll support our efforts to do that!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
