Lobo just wanted to live in a safe city... or, in the ensuing fire that consumed his home town, to make sure those who ruined it would burn too.
Unlike other heroes, this is really all he is: just Lobo, the protector, the vigilante, as if he crawled out of the primordial ooze that crafted mankind, saw the path of peace, and turned his back on it with a resounding baritone 'No.'
The Empowered world is filled with the miraculous, the uncanny, the incredible, but Lobo doesn't have any powers of his own, just an iron will, a steel hammer, and a spiffy fashion sense!
When he comes up against the most deadly foe yet, she makes him question whether he's really fighting the right way, and against the right people.
At SoV Comics, we create comics because we love doing it: we're comic enthusiasts! I, personally, have been collecting comics of almost every type and genre since 1986 when an Aunt bought me one for my birthday.
I have worked as a writer in the mainstream comics industry for over 15 years now, and my dream has always been to work with creators who have brilliant ideas and just want to bring their stories to life. I'm pleased to be able to do that with SoV Comics.
Nearly three years ago, when we started, we were able to begin working with some of the best indie artists out there. We aim to work with creators and artists who believe in what they are doing so much that the stories we tell and the images that tell them truly jump off the page.
We want to bring these amazing stories to you, so we've turned to Kickstarter to show you what our talented group of creators have to offer! Our comics so far have received critical acclaim, as well as extremely popular with the backers.
(and we'd like to take this chance to welcome back anyone returning to back us again!)
My name is Johnathan Lewis, and I'm Comics Director for SOV Comics, an independent comic company working with universes created by Shades of Vengeance.
Over the last three years, we have published a number of comics. Prominent among these is our Era: The Empowered series, which Ed Jowett and I conceived of years ago on a trip to Canada. We were talking about the old "90's style" comics and cartoons like the X-Men and Spider-Man and felt inspired to create our own. We debuted it at first as a wildly successful tabletop RPG that let people play as their own characters set in the whole new world of "Terra".
A comic involving some of the adventures we saw in play test and games was requested and we had to deliver! Lacuna was the first and others soon followed and with this comic it'll be a half dozen. Lobo was a comic that spoke to us from the depth of action movies and 'competent man' archetypes, and we just had to challenge him with a villain that'd really make him think.
Rodrigo's family is from this area. His father was a minor government official who got frustrated with the lack of support from the other officials and increased violence coming from the cartel. He was approached by the cartel and told he would either start working for them or his family would be victims.
Instead of obliging, he fled with the family a neighbouring country. Rodrigo grew up learning martial skills (his father was always fearful they would be found) and joined a martial arts club. Because of their need for secrecy, Rodrigo didn't learn about what happened to the aunts, uncles and cousins they left behind (his parents feigned ignorance) until he was 24 years old. In the middle of Rodrigo's 4th year in University (majoring in engineering) a journalist friend of his showed him a research project he'd been working on which included images and information that Rodrigo recognised as his lost family. The cartel had wiped out every one of his relatives when his father had fled.
Rodrigo snapped, moved back to his home city (or as close as he could get to it) and began slowly working his way up through the lower levels of crime trying to one day reach the top and exact revenge. He uses the impressive martial arts skills he gained through a lifetime of work, as well as his engineering background, to defeat his opponents.
Empress of Bones
Once on her own crusade to defeat the cartels, Kara Tinn awoke as an Empowered, making her stronger, more aggressive, and manifesting her as an unrivalled being within the Empowered universe with the ability to grow bone and sinew within her body.
An aspiring crime empress who clashes with the vigilante, Lobo, Kara believes that she's above fighting ordinary humans and sends her minions to dispose of him. When Lobo defeats them all, she realises that their dynamic can only culminate in a one-on-one battle...
Ed Jowett is a creator of worlds and characters who has a seemingly unlimited supply of new ideas. There isn't a comic Shades of Vengeance has made that hasn't been cowritten by him, and Lobo's story is no different.
Leonor Macedo worked with Ed Jowett to bring this character and his world to life. A long-time writer and creator, she enjoyed the opportunity to work on a superhero comic for the first time!
Ben A Vazquez Is a comic book and cover artist. He has worked for Fireside Creations, Mark Harper ministries and is the cover artist for Lobo!
Pramit Santra is an experience comic book artist. He brought the dark world of Lobo and the Empress of Bones to life with his distinct pencils and inks, and we think it looks brilliant!
Bryan Arfel Magnae finished off the pages with his colours. He also has extensive experience, both with other companies and with SoV Comics - he's been working on several of our upcoming comics and we're pleased to have his help bringing Lobo to you!
Johnathan Lewis has been writing comics for over fifteen years, and has been working with SoV Comics since it began! He also wrote all this in first person so why he switched to third person here is anyone's guess. His writing credits include a large variety of comics, particularly some of the best comics we have ever made produced as a group, if I do say so myself!

Risks and challenges
There are always risks in any project.
However, we are an established company with experience in completing projects of this kind, and the artwork is completed. The lettering is underway, so all that should be required is layout and printing.
We believe we can easily meet the deadlines we've set!
If the stretch goals for further comics are reached, we will begin producing them immediately after the funding is complete and we will keep you up to date for the entire duration of the project about where everything is at.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
