When Hai-Xang Hayden wakes up one morning, her world has changed.
The death of her mother at the hands of an unknown alien race threw the Consortium into confusion. Her carefree life, dedicated to nothing but having a good time, transformed into responsibility for an entire civilisation...
But the story didn't end with convincing the leadership that they were at war. Knowing nothing about your enemy is the best way to lose. Hai-Xang dispatched her best operative to learn more. He explored their base, discovering something very different to what was expected...
The inevitable outcome of the assault in its wake was a huge retaliation. The Jump Gate came under attack. Thanks to recent events, the Consortium was prepared... but they were not battle-hardened warriors willing to sacrifice anything. In fact, many of them would have preferred to run...
Era: The Consortium's universe is a rich and detailed one, and offering a new way to experience the stories within it - via comics - has long been our dream.
The 80-page graphic novel "The Bug War - Volume 1" has been written by a 15-year veteran of the comics industry, along with the creator of Era: The Consortium. It brings you three exciting, moving and beautifully-illustrated stories set at the start of the Bug War.
With the help of a team spread across four continents, we have been able to bring these stories to life in vivid detail.
We pride ourselves on being a crowdfunded series of comics. We love being a part of the responsible Kickstarter community, with a massive number (almost 50, including games!) of crowdfunding projects completed and 99% of all deliveries so far on-time or early.
The Bug War Volume 1 is the first step into this story and we have many more volumes planned if we can find the support we hope to for this volume.
All of the artwork has been completed already and we're now just finishing off the extra material!
Here are a few of the incredible pages we have already completed:
We have some great rewards available from this project!
From a copy of the Digital ($8) or Printed ($20) edition of The Bug War Volume 1 to an artwork print and signed copy for an extra $10, your Bug War needs will be covered!
Just in case that isn't enough Sci-Fi for you, you can also get our full collection of comics set in the Consortium, which adds the critically-acclaimed Counting Down From One and Last Stand of Stiletto Unit comics! These are also available in Digital ($15) or Printed ($40) form!
Brian Brinlee has brought these three stories to life with his artwork, doing a fantastic job as always! His line and ink work has been top-notch, and we know you will love it.
Sathit Kaew-a-run and Edwin Domingo contributed the colours to this volume and filled the story with vibrancy and mood as they did so. We are very grateful for their work on these stories!
Johnathan Lewis and Ed Jowett have well over two decades of comic writing between them. They have worked together to bring the complexity of war and the different perspectives within those scenarios to life!
Alexander Korchnev contributed the graphic design for the logo and the Kickstarter, as well as for the printed book.
Martin Popovski did much of the initial video editing, including the impressive logo at the start, and then Ed came along and tweaked it!
Hande Barutcuoglu did the proofreading on The Bug War Volume 1, turning up all of the errors we had made and leaving the book in a fantastic state!
The video music was Black Vortex by Kevin MacLeod, and the video voiceover was by Ed Jowett.
Risks and challenges
There are always risks in any project.
However, we are an established company with experience in completing projects of this kind - we have run many Kickstarters and have successfully delivered over a dozen comics date. All that should be required is layout and printing, so the risk should be minimal.
We believe we can easily meet the deadlines we've set, but we will keep you up to date for the entire duration of the project about where everything is at.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
