About

We invite you to become part of our spectacular project and offer your support in making our idea a reality. Not only our local communities of South Calgary and Okotoks will greatly benefit from this project, but our artistic vision might, one day, change the world.

CREATORS’ STORY

Our Mission Statement: ChatterBox Theatre Society is more than a theatre as we are dedicated to delivering a meaningful theatrical experience to young audiences through interaction and humour, teaching children positive values and offering them support in their developmental stages, building a stronger community by encouraging public interaction and dialogue, and nurturing and promoting our local artists.

ChatterBox Theatre Society is an innovative interactive children’s theatre that brings the children in the audience into the middle of the story and so creates a stronger theatrical experience. We introduce children to concepts of feelings, help them understand how they influence the world around and help them grow into kind members of their families and communities. Our purpose is not only to create a unique and enjoyable theatrical experience for the children in the community, but also teach them positive values and help them become better individuals

We also intend to help the local artistic community by creating development opportunities for young performers, offering them grounds for diversification and improvement, and by helping local artists meet the public, offering part of our space for exhibiting and organizing different annual events.

We also plan to develop our website to an interactive format. Our website will serve our efforts to empower children, encourage children’s dreaming and offer support in achieving this.

ChatterBox Theatre will also be a place where families and children will meet, play and enjoy time together.

We cultivate values like family, friendship, teamwork and trust. We lead by example, so we need to be what we want our children to become. More than performers and theatrical staff, we are a family. We welcome the audience into our theatre, our home, invite them to be active members of our organization, teach them positive values and let them know they belong within our society.

We consider that all children should have a chance to benefit from our educational plays and programs, as we consider them all to be within our civil responsibility. ChatterBox Theatre Society will be open to all the children in the community and their families, regardless of their race, religion, gender, ethnicity or financial status.

Location: ChatterBox Theatre Society is planned to be located down South of Calgary, serving both Calgary and Okotoks regions. Currently, there is no family entertaining and children’s theatre located in Calgary South, which guarantees a great market potential for this project.

Concept: ChatterBox Theatre Society is an innovative, interactive theatre, that brings the children in the audience into the middle of the story, creating a stronger theatrical experience. The children in the audience will be able to participate in the play, respond, react and add their personal insight. Being part of the story will help them better understand the message of the play, use their creativity and logic, increase their confidence, improve their understanding on the topic of the play, be active, etc.

We further our efforts in educating children with an additional space at our location where families will be entertained, artists will interact with the public and exhibit their work, and children will learn.

We also  plan to continue developing our website to a higher interactive level, engaging and stimulating children’s creativity and artistic skills, and facilitating communication among community members, educators and artists.

Stage Set: ChatterBox Theatre Society will not perform on a typical stage. The audience will be seated in the middle of the performance’s area, the entire action of the play surrounding them.

Our plays will be written, directed and performed in house by ChatterBox Theatre Society members. During the process of writing the stories, we will collaborate with groups of children, guided by our script writer and other members of our team. We will teach by humour and will focus on concepts like: family, health, self-confidence, self-expression, compassion, friendship, etc. We decide the themes of our plays based on the age of the audience, focusing on: bulling, gender inequality, racism, positive vs negative relationships, peer pressure, ethics, trust, community involvement, collaboration, etc.

Training: We plan to offer training to students performers (ages over 16) and young musicians (ages between 12 and 16).  For the first year of operations, the training program will be provided for Sections 1 and Section 2 of the year.

Project Start-up time frame: Estimated time from the starting moment to the moment of opening for public is 12 to 15 weeks.

Operations and scheduled performances: We divide the first year of operations into three Sections of the Year: Section 1 of the year: produce and offer 2 plays simultaneously, Section 2 of the year: produce and offer 2 plays simultaneously, Section 3 of the year: offer Summer Camps and 2 of the most successful performances of the 4 plays produced during the year. We will offer the public 4 new plays divided into two sections during the year as follow: September 2019 to January 2020- Section 1 of the Year – 2 New Plays; February 2020 to June 2020 - Section 2 of the Year – 2 New Plays.

Weekly Schedule: ChatterBox Theatre Society will operate seven days a week over the year. From Monday to Sunday the space will be dedicated to training, rehearsals, planning, team communication and decision making, etc. Saturday and Sunday will be open for public (performances and local artists exhibits).

Summer Camps will be offered for the months of July and August to children with ages between 6 and 16. The length of each class will be of three weeks divided into two weeks of training and one week of performing, with at least two scheduled performances for public.

Special Events:   Two to three weeks prior to the first performance of ChatterBox Theatre Society, we plan to host an Open House event at our future location in South Calgary, where families in the community will join us in celebrating the opening of ChatterBox Theatre Society and participate in several fun activities. Also, during the year, we will organize a minimum of two markets dedicated to our local artists and children in the community.

Potential Markets: We estimate the current target market, children 4 to 12 years of age, in 2019 is Calgary 139,350 children and Okotoks 4,441 children.

The pricing plan is determined based on the current market conditions in Alberta and the mission of our organization. Our pricing strategy reflects the fundamental approach that all children must have equal opportunities to learn, express themselves, create and access support.

CONCLUSION

ChatterBox Theatre Society will answer the need for public entertaining, the need for children’s theatre in a market bereft of such services. It will help in educating, empowering and offering support to children in their developmental stages. It will offer support to local artists and the artistic community overall. It will also help the members of our community connect, grow, learn from each other and become stronger together.

We can all help to make this project a reality, help our city grow stronger and greater. No matter what strengths, abilities and talents define us, we can all offer support and work together to create this amazing project.

Risks and challenges

Your contribution, no matter how big or small, is essential for assuring part of our initial investment: Assets (65%), Marketing Campaign (25%), and the current crowdfunding expenses (10%). The estimated value of total expenses included in our budget is much larger than the current crowdfunding target, but your support today brings us closer to make our project a reality.
