B2C: Bach Cello Suites Unleashed
I have always loved Bach, and as a cellist, especially his Six Suites for Solo Cello. Yet it seems that too often people feel like they don't have a "way in" to this glorious music... at first glance, it can appear too "intellectual" or "dry," especially in a busy, technology-driven world in which our attention span is so short...
Since graduating from Indiana University Jacobs School of Music in 2009, it has been my dream to present this gorgeous music in a new context and to challenge listeners who may think they don't enjoy Bach with an alternative presentation that does allow them a "way in." My cello teachers would all tell me to "hear the implied harmonies" in the music... the idea of combining the solo cello suites with choir always seemed very natural to me... a realization of what is already there (with a little artistic license, of course, please forgive me, Johann*!).
And so when I recorded Bach's Six Cello Suites at St. Paul's Cathedral in 2017 and had the opportunity to meet the cathedral's wonderful choir director, Martin Green, I just couldn't resist the idea of proposing my idea to him... The creation of an album of Bach's Cello Suites Nos.1 and 3 alongside an original choral arrangement --with the talented St. Paul's choristers. Luckily for me, Martin loved the idea, and here we are!
In order to help bring this project to fruition, a number of people are volunteering their time, and St. Paul's Cathedral is very generously allowing us to record in their beautiful space pro bono. We have been able to reduce or cut costs in a number of areas, but are still in need of considerable funding to bring this project to completion (our expenses are listed below in "Risks and Challenges").
This is the reason we have created this campaign... any financial support you are able to give to help bring "B2C: Bach Cello Suites Unleashed" to light would be incredibly appreciated! We hope you will take a moment to watch our campaign video and to browse our thank you gifts. This campaign is an "all or nothing campaign" which means we have to reach our funding goal or we get nothing. Any help you can give in spreading the word about our campaign would also be much appreciated.
Thank you so much for your time and consideration of support for "B2C: Bach Cello Suites Unleashed." Together, we can help bring classical music to a broader audience, both nationally and internationally, with a goal to communicate both with current classical music-lovers, and also with people who may not find classical music readily accessible today.
We literally couldn't do it without you! <3
*It was very important to me to keep the writing minimal and uncluttered, with each notational choice stemming from Bach's original composition.
P.S. If successfully funded, all backers of this project will receive updates about the project as it progresses, including short video and photographic documentation.
