A story about an unlikely friendship, found at an unexpected time. When teenage runaway Mari (alternative model Halo Haynes) breaks into the home of reclusive thirty-something Kent (Mark Drake, Game of Thrones), she appeals to his better nature to let her shelter in his house, at least until the rain stops. Throughout the course of the night, these two lonely people open up about their lives, and share their troubles, increasingly aware of the fact that they have a surprising amount in common with each other. Will this newfound friendship break apart with the coming of the morning sun, and will either character remain the same after this unexpected encounter?
This film should appeal to fans of Ghost World, Juno, Lost in Translation, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, or to anyone who likes a good story about interesting characters!
Your money will enable us to rent the best equipment and camera possible to record this beautiful little film, will cover travel expenses for our cast and crew, feed everyone, dress the actors and set, and get the film sent off to as many festivals as possible - as well as covering the costs of making and sending out our DVDs!
Then maybe... just maybe... the finished Night Owls will get peoples' attention, and inspire them to support us again, then we will be able to make our long-intended feature version of the film as well. Which, of course, will give us the opportunity to recruit many more cast and crew members to our team!
MEET THE TEAM...
This film was co-written by director Sophie Black (who recently produced Stop/Eject, starring The Worst Witch's Georgina Sherrington, and directed the macabre but beautiful Ashes, which was available to view at this year's Cannes Court Metrage) and Tommy Draper (writer of Pro Kopf, which won him a multi-tude of awards, including best Horror/Suspense from Comic-Con!).
Night Owls will be produced by Sophia Ramcharan (who has years of broadcast experience at the BBC) and Lauren Parker (whose recent festival credts include none other than FrightFest!)
Our cast include newcomer Halo Haynes (already a successful and popular alternative model) and Mark Drake, a man whose vast career in film, theatre and television includes roles in Game of Thrones and How Sherlock Changed the World.
We will be making a wonderful little soundtrack for the film, arranged by DJ Ian Cudmore, which harnesses all the talent of our local musical community.
Amongst our multi-talented crew, we have Neil Oseman behind-the-lens, a man who shot and sold a feature worldwide in his early twenties, directed Benedict Cumberbatch on 35mm, won an award from Channel 4's Film Factory, and was hailed by the Guardian as "The Spielberg of Hereford' - so we believe the film is in more than capable hands!
We will release more videos, interviews and fun little snippets throughout the funding campaign to keep you updated on our progress, and as an added thankyou to everyone who donates.
By supporting this campaign, you are contributing to the independent British film scene, and helping to sustain the emerging of new talent within this industry. This film is a showcase for different levels of experience - ranging from a first time actor and crew members all the way to award-winning veterans of their craft - and genders, with characters that are relatable to different ages and sexes. Above all, you will be inspiring the eternal gratitude and love of some of the most dedicated, hard-working people you could possibly hope to meet.
Risks and challenges
All film productions face challenges, and - as a team - we've all had to overcome obstacles in the past, so we have great experience at adapting to situations. Due to the size of this project, all risks are low and easy to avoid.
The main risk we'll have of the project being pushed back is finding the ideal location. Our producer Lauren Parker, who has specialised in finding locations in the past, is busy at work on this at the moment. It is more than likely we'll have a location confirmed and release forms for this location signed in time for the production to go ahead on schedule.
Every member of our team is bound to the production by written word, and their image released for use on the production (including for promotional uses) and so it is unlikely we will have to re-cast or re-hire any of our beloved team. This will also help us to avoid any arguments or legal battles in the future.
If you have any more questions or concerns about this project, don't hesitate to get in touch.
