1 Record / 9 Films / 8 Filmmakers / 7 Cities
We want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for backing our project and making this possible! Thanks to you, we’ve reached our goal with hours to spare and now we’ll be able to continue the project, finish the record, make the films, and get you the goods!
Any money we raise beyond our goal will go toward supplementing the the film budgets and promoting the album. Most of the Kickstarter funds are allocated toward the recording of the album, vinyl production, CD manufacturing, artwork printing, Kickstarter rewards, shipping, and Kickstarter/Amazon fees (8%). All of the filmmakers are generously giving their time and energy to the project, and in turn we want to give them the resources they need to make their individual films and prevent them from having to pull funds from their own pockets.
We’re excited to be working with such a talented group of people and are so grateful that you’ve joined us in the adventure!
We’ll be keeping you updated throughout the summer and into the fall as the project continues to develop. Thanks again and much love!
Live Shows. Photo Installations. Video Shoots. Vinyl Records.
We are writing an album, recording it, and turning it over to eight filmmakers, one photographer, one choreographer, and one visual artist. We are completely letting go and letting these artists give the songs their own unique visual form.
We don't know what the finished product will look like, but we have full faith in the collaborative nature of this process and we want to invite you to be a part of it.
Give us THE SHAPE THE COLOR THE FEEL
Whatever you say YOU MAKE IT REAL
Hello. We’re Kate Tucker and the Sons of Sweden. Welcome to our Kickstarter project.
We want to record a new album, THE SHAPE THE COLOR THE FEEL, and create a collaborative visual experience surrounding it. We believe that great music is inspired by great films and visual art, and great films and visual art are inspired by great music. It’s a beautiful cycle and we will explore it in this project by working with eight filmmakers to create music videos or short films for each of the songs on the album. We will release each film serially as the album rolls out along with an experimental documentary that retrospectively features the community that this collaborative venture will inevitably foster. And most of all we want to invite you to join us in the creative process.
In a time where a whole world of sound and experience can be compressed into a tiny digital file that we send to each other on our cell phones, we like the idea of attaching moving picture to this tiny little file and giving it some weight. So much goes into creating a song and a sound and an album and even more goes into making a film and all of that time, love, and attention is something we want to remember.
With that in mind, and a great love for collecting vinyl, we also want to give this album a physical presence. We’ll be releasing the album on limited edition 180 gram vinyl featuring art by Australian artist Jessie English. Jessie is creating a photo installation that will exist in the real world and will also inform the overall visual aesthetic of THE SHAPE THE COLOR THE FEEL. Jessie’s work has been shown in Sydney and NYC and we are excited to plan gallery openings surrounding the album release in Nashville, NYC, Seattle, Cleveland, and Sydney, Australia.
So to recap:
- We are making a new record and releasing it on vinyl.
- We are turning the songs over to other artists to take the process further via film, photography, visual art, and dance.
- Lots of creative people are working with us to make this possible.
- We want you to be one of them.
Here’s how you can be involved. You can simply pre-order the record and that alone helps to fund the creation of it. Or perhaps you want to be more creatively involved and be one of our music videos, or even be a producer. Maybe you want to get your friends together for a private listening party with us before the album is out, or a host a banging house party show. We’ve done our best to create some super fun backer rewards that not only put something awesome in your hands and your headphones, but also involve getting to know you.
Your support of this project will help to pay for recording, (studio and engineers) manufacturing (vinyl and CDs), making the artwork (printing and supplies), and distributing the album (materials and shipping), along with costs associated with fulfilling the Kickstarter incentives.
We are funding as much of this as we possibly can on our own, and the artists and filmmakers involved are generously donating their time and energy. We are so grateful for the ability to work with these amazing folks and make something awesome.
Thank you for considering our project. We hope you'll join us!

Risks and challenges
It does take time to release a record, from recording to promoting to distributing it in stores. In addition to that, the music video/short film element of this project will take significant time and energy to realize. Backers can expect a 4-6 month set up period from the end of the Kickstarter to the album release and video premieres.
However, we do offer an immediate download of the single "Let Me Go" (exclusive Kickstarter version) as well as the opportunity to receive the album in all formats one month before the record release date.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
