Sonic Decanter® was developed with patented technology that defines the use of ultrasonic energy to transform the molecular and chemical structure of wine. This change, which is permanent and measurable, is effective on any and all wine products, excluding Sparkling Wines that contain CO2. The wine can also be treated by the Sonic Decanter® with the cork or closure left intact, generating the same results. Additionally the Sonic Decanter® can “reinvigorate” previously opened and re-corked bottles of wine. This is true for less expensive table wines as well as more highly priced premium wines and collection wines.
The Sonic Decanter® produces results in less than 20 minutes that are typically only possible with many years of aging in the right conditions.
- Aroma. The use of the Sonic Decanter® brings out aromas that are not normally present in a young unaged wine.
- Tannins. Young unaged wines, and even some that have been aged, tend to be higher in tannins which can affect the drinkability of wine. Sonic Decanter® softens the tannins, producing a fruitier finish.
- Flavor. Flavors burst in the glass after wine has been through the Sonic Decanter® process.

Why the Sonic Decanter Works
During the traditional time-intensive aging process of wine, reactions of various molecules occur in the wine. Molecules change due to the interaction between each other. In wine aging only low level reactions occur during the natural process.
However with application of ultrasound energy the molecules tend to interact, attach, and change their molecular properties.
Ultrasound is a well understood method, which is already widely used in the food industry due to its mild application but significant effects on the product. When used on wine the Sonic Decanter® promotes further extraction of flavors, aromas and mouth feel from interactions among phenolics and anthocyanins which results in smoother more integrated mouth feel and a smooth, flavorful lingering finish.
When using the Sonic Decanter®, wine becomes a more homogeneous liquid with improved sensory characteristics and an improved open bottle “shelf life” in a very short time of treatment. Using the Sonic Decanter® allows for a more energetic reaction between the molecules and thus a more complete molecular change. In addition the natural gases including oxygen and sulfur dioxide (SO2) are expelled from the bottle, pH is reduced and other components are modified.
This results in an improvement in taste, aroma, mouth feel and an overall enjoyment in the wine drinking experience.

During a career that spanned more than 50 years, Charles Leonhardt innovated and designed technology solutions which utilized ultrasonic energy. Those projects included work in aviation, spacecraft controls and medical devices. He worked with various liquids during his career which were carefully evaluated after exposure to ultrasonic energy.
After a successful career he retired and began making wines for his own pleasure and consumption. He was urged to consider how ultrasonic energy could play a role in making wine taste better.
After years of research and much experimentation he found a new and successful application of ultrasonic energy. He filed for and was granted patents for the process that now forms the cornerstone of our technology platform.
Mike met Charlie and they immediatly forged a vision for how Charlie's technology and Mike's consumer product and beverage marketing experience could bring an entirely new technology to all the people who enjoy wine. They set out to create that vision based on their shared passion.
Dionysus Technology Concepts Inc, (DTC)was formed and has licensed the exclusive use of the patents for all consumer appliance applications, and is now on the eve of launching our Sonic Decanter® to the public!
DTC has organized a team of technology, marketing, wine and beverage professionals, skilled in all essential areas to assist in the process of bringing the most exciting innovation to the wine industry in centuries.
The first prototype was created using a 3D printer. This 99% accurate print was then used to integrate the components for the Sonic Decanter®. Further component integration and testing was performed to ensure the effectiveness of the Sonic Decanter® design.

Risks and challenges
As with any project, there’s the possibility that something could go wrong and introduce an unforeseen delay. We’ve got a lot of experience bringing other kinds of projects – software applications, business deals, consumer product launches, patent filings– to fruition, but manufacturing a complex electronic product in China can have its unforseen challenges
That’s why we’ve partnered with a manufacturing and logistics partner headquartered in Seattle that has extensive experience with crowd-funded projects. They have boots on the ground in China making factory visits and streamlining product development. Furthermore, the main Chinese manufacturing company we are working with has extensive experience manufacturing and certifying products in this category. We have aligned with a manufacturing and sourcing team who has successfully delivered for other Kickstarter projects and has confirmed their professionalism and dedication to quality.
Certification. Shipping a safe, reliable, quality product is our top priority. That’s why we’re submitting the Sonic Decanter to a certifying authority. They’ll smash it, burn it, force it to overheat, crack it open, and see what mayhem it could cause under the very worst circumstances. These extreme conditions may reveal the need to tweak our design, and that could mean a small production delay. However, since the very beginning, we’ve designed the Sonic Decanter with an eye towards certification compliance and general safety.
Shipping Date. We’ve already built 8 Rapid Prototype units and have received the manufacturing quotes from our factory in China, so we have a good sense for how long it takes to implement design changes and send out updated units. All of our components have already been sourced and designed. We will continue to improve the manufacturing and components before we build your Sonic Decanter. However, there’s always the possibility that something unforeseen could introduce additional delays. We’ve built padding into our schedule, and we really want to make sure you all have the opportunity to “make any wine better” as soon as possible.
Whatever happens, we will keep you updated, and to do everything we can to ensure a high-quality, on-time delivery of the Sonic Decanter!
