Hi there! My name is Sonia Barcelona and I’m a musician from Las Vegas, NV. I started writing songs when I picked up the guitar at 20 and originally thought I would become a professional hobbyist who played to herself and maybe her pet goldfish. It wasn’t until a friend of mine told me I was more than fairly decent that I began performing at open mics in 2013. A bunch of folks seemed to like the original tunes that I was making and it encouraged me to keep going.
Fast forward a year later and I was able to fund my first EP through Kickstarter called “Shut The Hell Up.” It was beautiful seeing the community come together to help me make my first official recordings. I realized then that I had something I could offer to people that could help brighten their day. So I kept on the musical path and it’s lead me to fantastic things!
Late 2017 I began experimenting with a looper machine that allowed me to have full-sounding solo performances. It lead to the making of my single “Whatever” which came out early 2018 with positive reception, so positive it got me featured on the news (I was on TV Mom!) Channel 13 & Fox 5, Earmilk Magazine, Vegas Seven, the Las Vegas Film Festival, and even lead to an award from the Las Vegas Weekly as Best Emerging Voice of 2018. I was also extremely fortunate to have opened for some of my favorite bands this year which include: Japanese Breakfast, SALES, Pearl Charles, & Deap Vally. Just recently I’ve been playing with a full band so new and better things are on the horizon!
It’s been a whirlwind and I can’t even believe it. If you told the high school me I’d become a musician I would laugh really hard, so so very hard in disbelief...I mean at that point I was studying to become an accountant. What a turn of events!
So, here I am now, extremely grateful for the opportunities music has given me. My dream is to create until I croak and now that I‘ve found my voice I want to share it with the world!
A few other tidbits about me—besides my original music I also love to teach voice for kids at the School of Rock and am a photographer/creator of photos4thepeople.com
So what does “Sonia LEVELS UP” mean? And WHERE DOES THE MONEY GO?
I have been an independent artist since 2013 and I want to continue making it easy to support me and my efforts without a middle person. I am campaigning to raise a minimum of $5,000 to buy new equipment so I can produce on my own, get high quality gear for live performances, create new merch, market my music as best I can, as well as make a super fantastic Special FX music video for my upcoming single, “Violent Water.” I’m all about quality and this money will help make everything I do top notch and pleasing to your ears and eyes.
All funds will go toward:
- “Violent Water” Music Vid: $1,000
- Studio & Production Equipment: $900
- Live Gear/Equipment: $800
- New Laptop: $800
- Touring: $700
- Merchandise: $350
- Marketing/Publicity: $200
- Kickstarter & Transaction Fees: $250
Grand Total = $5,000
With your help my dreams can become reality!
Important Notes on How Kickstarter Works:
Each and every dollar you pledge goes to making this project a reality. Please note: Kickstarter is all-or-nothing so I will only be backed if I am 100% funded. Additionally, no pledge rewards will be given if I am not fully successful.
If you know you'd like to pledge, the sooner the better. Early traffic and funding of a Kickstarter puts the project on the map for the folks at Kickstarter to promote it within their community and have it take on a life of its own.
And if you want to know more about me you can go to www.soniabarcelona.com and even shoot me an email. I’m happy to get in touch and answer any questions.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! Looking forward to connecting with so many more of you than I would have otherwise, and sharing my musical adventure with you!
Risks and challenges
My biggest risk is not reaching my financial goal. Kickstarter is an ALL OR NOTHING platform, so if I don’t reach $5,000, I will not receive any of the funds that have been pledged and I may be unable to release my music as quickly as I’d like to. What would take a few weeks may end up taking a few months due to a lack of funds so this kickstarter is key in helping me pay for the supplies I need as well as labor for those helping me make my projects come to life.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
