About Eimear Noone:
For years, in between her concert appearances and recording sessions, Eimear Noone has been presenting conducting seminars and masterclasses for a wide variety of institutions such as Columbia College Chicago, The Society of Composer's and Lyricists, ASCAP, UCLA Extension, and many others. Her private conducting students include, Grammy, Emmy, BAFTA, and Oscar Award Winners and/or Nominees.
Even though her recording and touring schedule no longer permits her to teach regularly, Ms. Noone still wants to be able to share her knowledge and experiences - the impetus behind both the game Muso-VR, and this first phase, "Eimear Noone Presents: CONDUCTRIX, A View from the Podium."
Through these, Maestro Noone wants to capture the content of the seminars and classes she has been presenting, preserve them, and share them with the world through the magical technology of virtual reality and 3D video.
As far as we are aware, there has never been such a series of instructional videos. In this way, "CONDUCTRIX, A View from the Podium" will be the next best possibility to having private conducting lessons with Eimear.
As explained by Eimear Noone:
“Countless times, people have approached me at concerts wanting to know what it’s like to conduct an orchestra.
Others want to know what all my gestures mean; how I use these motions to communicate to the players.
Finally, my touring schedule has made it next to impossible to teach privately anymore - but I still want to be able to share what I know in an intimate setting.
Muso VR: Phase 1 'CONDUCTRIX, A View from the Podium,' is my way of answering these questions and needs."
Eventually, we plan for Muso-VR to be a much broader virtual reality experience with modes for players, conductors and observers, but for now, we are focussed on the most basic element of the game: The Conducting Tutorials. You can learn more about our ambitious plans from this press release: Muso VR - A First of its Kind, Musical VR Experiene
Eimear's conducting philosophy and focus for the book and videos:
"I believe that conducting technique is a physical language with a vocabulary that anyone can learn. It's then up to you to use it to write a literature in your own voice. I want this book and these virtual reality videos to be about the pure practicalities of conducting on the concert stage AND scoring stage; No maestro myth; no obfuscation; no false elitism; no pomp and circumstance."
The book and videos will be divided into sections such as:
- Basic beat patterns and gestures.
- Communicating articulations, dynamics, cuing, tempo changes and other specialty gestures.
- Eimear conducting a small ensemble, demonstrating how the elements discussed in sections 1 and 2 translate directly to the players.
- A series of interviews with players, conductors, and composers.
- Instruction in score preparation, stage presence, studio recording techniques, creating click tracks, and other helpful tips.
About Eimear Noone's Unique Conducting Style:
Eimear Noone has spent a lifetime developing her conducting style. The style is dedicated to being as clear and concise as possible without extraneous "noise" that might confuse the conductor's communication.
As was said by one performer in a concert performance: "A deaf person could have ‘heard’ the music by just watching her hands."
Eimear elaborates, "Especially in the recording studio, there is no room for any possibility of being unclear - each minute is too valuable. Saying what's needed through your hands, in real time, is the most efficient method of communication."
About Eimear's Education:
This relationship between her gestures and the music was honed during 8 years of masterclasses and private conducting instruction, most notably with two years of intensive study with the conductor of the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland, Gerhard Markson. Maestro Markson himself was the protégé of legendary Russian conductor Igor Markevich.
"I spent years looking for the right teacher" says Eimear, "one that could help me create this style. The first time I saw Maestro Markson perform, I knew he was the perfect mentor."
Formally, Eimear is a graduate of Trinity College, Dublin, with degrees in composition and flute performance, with numerous certificates and additional studies including Master Classes at the Manhattan School of Music, The Royal College of Music, London, (through the Dublin Conservatory of Music and Drama), The Ennis IMRO Composition Summer School (Youngest Invited Participant), The Victoria College of Music, London, Opera Ireland (conducting), and the ASCAP Film Scoring Workshop (to name a few).

Risks and challenges
Creating these videos and book is a brilliant challenge and all those involved are excited to jump in full force.
One of the biggest risks and challenges in any video project is making sure the resources are available to produce a finished product.
Resources are not just financial, they actually include the technology, the personnel to run that technology, and the quality of the technology.
We have all of these resources! As we have our own equipment and personnel, we can completely control the costs of our production and guarantee the best possibility for success.
For example, as music producers, Craig Stuart Garfinkle and Eimear Noone have a long history of producing hours and hours excellent and award winning music. You've heard this in games like "World of Warcraft."
They own all the equipment needed to produce this music. They are experts in the use of this music technology, and as a matter of fact, Craig is a published author and respected educator on the subject of music production.
Unlike other video projects, where studios and edit bays need to be rented for weeks on end and editors kept on staff, Eimear and Craig will be producing, editing and mixing the videos themselves, in their own studio, on their own equipment. They won't be watching a clock, they will be focussed on taking as much time as is needed to produce the best product possible.
Here are the steps we will take:
As soon as funds are secured, we will purchase the camera rigs to shoot the videos. All the other gear has been purchased.
The video tutorials themselves will be shot in such a manor that they can be viewed on everything from a computer screen to the most complex VR headset.
Toward the end of the process, we will bring our small ensemble into the studio to record/video them as Eimear demonstrates how the musicians react to all the techniques she has presented in the tutorials.
The final step will be printing up the limited edition books and posting the digital downloads.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
