Growing up moving around a lot, New York, more specifically Brooklyn, is the city that holds the most special place in my heart out of the 6 other cities that I've lived in. The idea of wanting to document and share the unique beauty of Brooklyn, a place where I truly found myself, was what got me started with this project about a year ago.
Being an amateur photo lover who just started to learn and experience film photography in these recent years then immediately fell in love with it, this book will be my first time trying to print and publish my own photography work.
I'm very excited about bringing this very special baby (literally feels like my baby!) to life and I appreciate all of your support for making it happen, from the bottom of my heart:)
Somewhere in Brooklyn
The 60 pages book contains 35(or more) photos selected from a body of film photography that I've taken throughout the past year or so wandering in Brooklyn, mostly in the neighborhood I live in - Bushwick. But not limited to.
To me, the beauty of Brooklyn lies among quiet streets, small corners and alleys that are not yet commercialized. And people that are living, striving, sometimes struggling in the neighborhoods, as artists, performers, progressive thinkers or whatever kind of identity they are entitled to. The idea of finding beauty in things that are not commonly viewed as picturesque and rather insignificant also intrigues me, so abandoned objects or places are also one of the main subjects in my photography.
My attempt for this project is to depict Brooklyn in my eyes in the most genuine way possible.
Below are a few digital rendering of the book to give you a better sense of how it might look like. Please note that the layout of the pages is subject to change.
The book also comes with 18 monthly planners for you to plan and document your days!
I chose a very experienced printer in the US that has been assisting artists and photographers with generating high-quality prints. Best Part? The book will be printed on 100% recycle paper because our Mother Earth deserves more love!
The Book! (8 x 8) hand numbered and printed on 100% recycled paper
4 x 6 postcard set! 4 designs included. Also printed on 100% recycled paper.

Silk screen printed tote bag, hand printed by me in Brooklyn.
A 24 exposures disposable camera with half of the shots (12) taken by me of somewhere in Brooklyn. You can then complete the other 12 shots documenting what you love:) and experience the excitement of developing the roll afterward!
Risks and challenges
Since this is my first book printing experience, I've been doing a lot of research learning about the papers, binding methods and types of printing as well as trying to find the right printer for this project. From there, I will need to communicate with the printer (in the US) to make sure that the color and quality of the photo can come out as ideal as possible. A prototype of the book will be required.
Sometimes unexpected pitfalls or delays with production can happen, but I've left plenty of extra time in the estimated fulfillment date to accommodate those situations so hopefully the results can be delivered as expected time wise . And I'm sure there will be lots of lessons for me to learn& conquer along the way, but I'm confident that this book will come out just right:)
Thank you very much!
