Proven higher performance: Our original Solidteknics wrought iron cookware ranges are already loved by chefs and cooks around the world because they are more conductive than cast iron, with half the weight, and more durable and hygienic than traditional steel pans with rivets. These new skillets are made with the same iron as our US-ION™ originals, with the same patented machine-wrought method, but they're deeper and have an even stronger handle vent system. JB Prince really knows their Chef cookware, and this is the only skillet they are putting their name on. Here's a sample of what independent Chefs and experts think: www.solidteknicsusa.com/testify

Limited First Editions: We will only offer these new pan models engraved with 'First Edition', and dated, here on Kickstarter. Support the first historic production run of a new industry standard, use it for your whole life, then hand it down as a rare heirloom.

Value: Our 'Try Me' Earlybird offers of $49 and $69 will never be repeated. Prices rise halfway through, then rise again after this Kickstarter finishes. Yes, there are cheaper import/traditional pans available (and more expensive), but our pans are patented world-firsts, out-perform traditonal iron/steel pans, last far longer, and they're made in the USA from USA iron.  This is real value for real innovation and quality, for a limited edition skillet that will be handed down for many generations.

We need your help: We are a small fledgling engineering development firm, and launching every new cookware model is very expensive. We simply couldn't launch these new pans without all the real pledges from our supporters here. Like we always say: 'we're in this together, making history, not just the finest cookware'!

It was a long and tough 20+ years development process by mechanical engineer (who cooks), Mark J. Henry, so why did he persist?

  • Because the old French-style steel pans (still made in France, and now widely copied), used by chefs everywhere have rivets that trap grime and eventually work loose. Their thin carbon steel doesn't conduct as well as our thick wrought iron (also called machine-worked very low carbon mild steel).
  • Because cast iron is heavy, and a poor conductor, so chefs rarely use it. It can also crack when dropped (especially new light/machined cast iron).

Throughout those 2+ decades, Chefs always told Mark, 'We are so sick of rivets and joins, and heavy pans. Make a one-piece iron/steel pan that's as light as our French pans, and we'll beat a path to your door.'

He did ... and they did!

Solidteknics wrought 1-piece skillets have been a hit with Australian Chefs since their launch there in 2015, and after shipping container loads of Aussie iron to the USA, we are now funding the manufacture of those skillets under the same patents in Chicago, from USA iron.

Solidteknics skillets are a genuine world-first, because we patented a whole new way of working a flat sheet of metal into a complete pan. Not cast, not pressed, but worked ('wrought', in the true original meaning) by machine into the final entire solid, seamless, rivetless, 1-piece pan.

.

Handle and pan wrought from one seamless piece of malleable steel/iron = indestructible!

JB Prince already sells a lot of our Australian-made iron pans to Chefs across the USA. Now these two Chicago-made USA iron pans are lower in cost, stronger, and deeper than our standard shallow USA skillets, for more capacity and more 'sautéability'!

  • Cooks and seasons like cast iron, but weighs half. And, yes, still with plenty of thermal mass for the biggest steaks!
  • Crafted with one piece of wrought American iron which will never crack, Solidteknics pans are clearly impossible to break, so they come with a multi-century warranty.
  • Smooth like vintage cast iron, so it becomes very nonstick, very quickly, with the same natural seasoning as cast iron and steel pans.
  • More conductive than cast iron or carbon steel.
  • Long, comfortable, vented handles that generally do not get too hot to handle.
  • Two ways to think of it: like a French carbon steel pan, but rivetless 1-piece, stronger, lighter, more conductive, and far more durable. Or, like a cast iron pan, but more conductive, won't crack, and half  the weight.

An unbeatable combination of high performance features and multi-century durability, for pro chefs, home cooks, camp cooks, BBQ heroes, pit masters - anyone who wants high performance, healthy, sustainable, locally-made cookware!

Like all our Kickstarter launches, if you pledge for it in this campaign you will receive a limited edition skillet engraved with 'FIRST EDITION' and the date of manufacture. The only pans that ever carry this 'First Edition' mark are those pledged for by our backers here on Kickstarter. These limited edition pans from our earlier campaigns are already becoming hot collectors' items.

JB Prince SOLID iron skillet dimensions

Made from the same USA iron as our US-ION™ cookware, with the same patented wrought manufacturing method, but deeper than our regular shallow skillets, and with a stronger handle vent system for the toughest of pro environments.

.

Solidteknics Raw iron pans enable a non-toxic natural nonstick surface that you build and maintain yourself over time. Cook with fats and oils, wash carefully, and your natural nonstick will keep renewing for many lifetimes.

Don't worry: our seasoning is not some new marketing gimmick! Our wrought iron seasons exactly like cast iron (or carbon steel skillets, or woks) have for hundreds of years: build your seasoning following our instructions in Section 2 below, or use your own seasoning ritual.

Above are beautifully seasoned US-ION skillets, seasoned according to our instructions, but there are many good ways to season iron pans. We certainly didn't invent seasoning: it has been done for the 2,000+ years iron/steel pans have been made!

Yes, you can quite easily build your own natural nonstick that is non-toxic, and never wears out. This is a great source of pride for Solidteknics iron pan owners: building their own healthy and forever-renewable nonstick.

Our pans will clearly last for centuries, so if the seasoning is well maintained, many future generations will be cooking on your ancient and rare First Edition American wrought iron skillet ... and it will still be nonstick after centuries. The ultimate in healthy, durable, sustainable, heirloom cooking!

Remember: we're always here to help you one-on-one with any of your seasoning difficulties. We also have a Facebook Group of 5,000+ friendly enthusiasts who are always keen to help anyone new to cooking on Solidteknics iron: www.facebook.com/groups/solidteknicsusers/

We're mechanical engineers, and we know the engineering behind all the other cookware brands/styles. We're quite sure our pans are the toughest.

How tough? Wrought from a single sheet of American iron into one seamless, indestructible piece. This solid piece of malleable wrought iron won't crack like cast iron can.

No rivets, welds, screws, or wobbly handles.  No synthetic coatings. No toxins. No (feasible) heat limits. No clad/ply layers. No worries. So durable, all US-ION™ pans come with a multi-century warranty. That's a safe promise, if you know how tough this iron is. A rare multi-generation heirloom skillet to hand down, with date stamp and 'First Edition'.

One solid wrought piece of a material that will never crack, so you would need to literally wear them through to destroy them ...

Solidteknics cookware is already acclaimed by chefs and experts, as well as health- and sustainability-conscious home cooks around the world. Our new USA cookware is bringing local production to our rapidly growing US support base.

It's a long road. Disposable synthetic non-sticks still dominate the retail shelves...and landfills. We're driving a growing grassroots movement that rejects disposable and toxic cookware, and changing attitudes. For the sake of future generations, we will continue to push for a reversal in unsustainable consumer habits worldwide.

Leave the engineering to us - we've got that covered - but we need YOU to support our vision!

Follow our USA Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, subscribe to our Solid Supporters Newsletter, and join the wonderful community on the Facebook Solidteknics Cookware Lovers Group. Share the news about the finest iron cookware available today with your friends and followers.

Tell them they're now made in the US, and that these new heirloom, collectible FIRST EDITION US-ION™ pans are only available this once, by pledging here on Kickstarter before the campaign deadline. Also tell them to hurry before the Earlybird deals finish, because they will never be repeated.

Together we'll make history, not just the world's finest new breed of seamless wrought iron cookware.

Thank you and happy cooking!!

Mark, Steve, Belinda, and the Solidteknics USA Team

If you don't know our Solid history: a background summary

After 19 successful Kickstarter launches in Australia, and success at retail and export, this is our 7th Kickstarter in the USA for Solidteknics Chicago-made cookware. We've had 3 very successful launch campaigns for US-ION wrought iron pans, and 3 for our nöni ferritic stainless steel pans made 100% in the USA.

We have a strong track record of successful campaigns, reliable shipping, and thousands of happy First-Edition Kickstarter backers!

Sure, we got the engineering right, but without so many strong supporters we would still only be 'dreamers with prototypes'. We are forever grateful for your support!
Sure, we got the engineering right, but without so many strong supporters we would still only be 'dreamers with prototypes'. We are forever grateful for your support!

Retail stock of cookware from our first USA campaigns (including the nöni stainless pans not offered here) are available on Amazon USA  https://www.amazon.com/solidteknics , though the best Earlybird launch deals are right here in this Kickstarter!

Please remember: Kickstarter is also the only time we offer new pans stamped with 'FIRST EDITION' - the most collectible and rare of all our pans!

Yes, cracking of cast iron is a bigger problem than people think: experienced cast iron cooks know they crack quite easily if dropped on a hard surface. We see it all the time in the big cast iron cooking forums, and it's always a tragedy to see heirloom family cast iron lost like that. It is impossible to crack our malleable wrought iron, so your descendants will need to physically wear through them to destroy them. We think that could take 1,000+ years.....

Don't worry, we still love cast iron, in a nostalgic sense, but we've found that cooks who are open to innovation will generally make the switch to wrought iron and never look back. Our supporters know that we've revolutionized/created a whole category of cookware (wrought solid 1-piece), and believe this industry will never be the same again.....

See more FAQs in Kickstarter menu for more detail on the definition of 'wrought iron', and how our lighter iron pans do indeed have plenty of 'thermal mass' for searing the big steaks (no temperature drop), and still be tougher and cook more efficiently than cast iron.

In composition, our iron is very similar to traditional cast iron pans, but our US-ION™ design is formed from a single flat wrought sheet of iron, and not by casting molten iron into a sand mold. Our very pure wrought iron is a better conductor of heat, providing a faster and more even heat distribution.

Our wrought iron skillets are about half the thickness and therefore half the weight of cast iron, so it's far easier to handle as a daily 'workhorse' skillet. If you're struggling with the weight of your cast iron but want to keep all the seasoning and cooking benefits, you need our half-weight wrought iron!

Wrought iron is also tougher and will never crack from impact or thermal shock like cast iron can (we show impact cracking in our video because more cast iron pans are lost in accidental kitchen tumbles than some people think, and it's a tragedy when old family heirlooms shatter on the floor).

Being wrought in one piece of very tough material, our pans will clearly last centuries, until they are physically worn through!

Our long ergonomic handles are designed for comfort. Based on simple thermodynamics, we added ventilation gaps to our long, easy-to-hold handle so the heat from the pan won't transfer to your hand (unlike thick, short cast iron handles).

We've also included a pouring rim around the entire pan to avoid messy drips down the pan sides. No need for pouring spouts!

There has been a huge shift among cooks to healthier and more sustainable cookware in recent years, due to the very real concerns about toxic, disposable synthetic-coated nonstick pans. If you haven't seen it yet, here is an excellent documentary on the dangers of nonstick pans:  https://thedevilweknow.com/

Many cooks rediscovered the advantages of traditional old cast iron skillets. Many are now tired of their disadvantages, including heavy weight, hot handles, and slow heating (and occasional cracking). Our wrought iron has solved ALL those disadvantages.

Naturally-seasoned iron pans are very low stick - the only similarity they bear to synthetic nonstick pans. Our seamless, rivetless single piece of tough wrought iron is non-toxic and will easily last multiple centuries. Pair that with simple seasoning that can be renewed yourself, indefinitely, and you have the most durable and sustainable pans we know.

We hope to build a revolution in seamless conductive cookware in the USA, just like we did in Australia, and leave a legacy of healthy sustainable cookware for future generations.

This is our vision, but we can't make it alone. To make it a reality, we need your support to launch new innovations via Kickstarter.

Unusual (we think we're the first), but true: we are offering a multi-century warranty for all our indestructible, 1-piece wrought cookware, including US-ION™.

This is not a marketing gimmick. We're not marketeers, we're engineers ... and this is solid engineering.

Made from one seamless 3mm wrought monobloc of very tough wrought iron, this material won't crack like cast iron. There are no synthetic coatings or enamel, and no rivets, welds, seams or clad layers to eventually fail. It would be clear to any experienced engineer that there is far more than one century of life in Solidteknics™ cookware, and quite possibly millennia...

Our multi-century warranty applies whether used in the home, restaurant, or campfire ...

JB Prince SOLID iron is basically indestructible!

We want our supporters to buy our cookware only once, and hand them down for multiple generations as treasured heirlooms. That's why we stamp the date of manufacture on every pan.

We are immensely gratified by the acclaim of our products and our sales success, but our greatest source of pride is the parents and grandparents already planning to hand down our pans as family heirloom history...

In Australia we switched from a smooth surface to a shot-peened surface in 2015, but our US importer has been selling both: the original smooth Aussie pans have remained more popular with USA cooks. It's also a lot less expensive to produce, so we're continuing with smooth for our Chicago-made wrought iron pans.

We offer JB Prince SOLID ironraw, with no shot peening or seasoning, just coated in natural beeswax to protect from rust in transit.

Note: French steel chef pans have long used beeswax to protect from rust. It's natural and non-toxic. We'll leave the seasoning for you to use your favorite method (like any cast iron or steel pan), or follow our instructions below.

JB Prince SOLID iron™ pans are ready to start seasoning yourself in the normal way: the same as any bare cast iron pan, French steel pan, or carbon steel wok. Our US-ION pans come coated in natural beeswax  (totally healthy and non-toxic), so warm the pan and wipe it down with a paper towel, leaving a thin coating as a foundation for seasoning - or, strip our coating and start again with your own seasoning oil/method.

If you don't know how to build your own seasoning, see our intro video below for 'best practice', and our instructions here: solidteknicsusa.com/ironcare, or the many different seasoning guides all over the internet.

Why does Solidteknics seem different to the average business?

Some clues are in this video...

...and the essence of our difference is in our original vision statement here:  www.solidteknicsusa.com

A passion for good food:

Our founder and design engineer, Mark J. Henry, with decades of experience developing chef equipment in Australia, USA, France, also loves to cook (just don't call him a stiff engineer LOL!)
Our founder and design engineer, Mark J. Henry, with decades of experience developing chef equipment in Australia, USA, France, also loves to cook (just don't call him a stiff engineer LOL!)

Horses for courses...

We still prefer the natural nonstick of seasoned iron for high temp oil/fat-based frying, grilling, etc, but...

...skillets in stainless are also easier to maintain, and faster to clean if you're in a hurry. Trade-off: they'll never be as nonstick as seasoned iron, so every kitchen needs both kinds.

Our successful first USA launch campaign in March 2018 was for our nöni™ seamless ferritic stainless cookware, made in the same way (same patents) as our US-ION™ wrought iron cookware (see the nöni campaign here http://kck.st/2DLpSaV ).

Those nöni™ stainless pans and our existing US-ION™ wrought iron pans are available on Amazon USA:  https://www.amazon.com/solidteknics

Could I just wait until these pans come to retail?

Don't miss this first/last opportunity: If you particularly like the look of these new JB Prince SOLID iron™ pans, we recommend pledging for them now, with the historic 'First Edition' engraving on our first USA co-brand production run. We believe this co-brand will expand and grow in fame over coming years and decades, and these rare First Edition skillets will become the most collectible of all.

If you're fast enough, you can also secure an Earlybird special at prices never to be repeated.

Risks and challenges

After a long and intensive development period, 19 (nineteen!) successful Kickstarter campaigns in Australia, SIX in the USA, overwhelmingly positive feedback from top chefs, strong retail sales and exports, and many production runs, SOLIDteknics is rapidly becoming established as a major chef equipment brand.

Though undeniably very hard work to launch manufacturing in the USA, on the scale of products and businesses I’ve launched this is certainly at the low risk end. After decades in the chef equipment industry and a long R&D process, I’m very confident the product is the best it can be - in fact, the best in the world - for all the reasons presented in the project detail.

If our backers allow us reach our target in time, the funds will be quickly applied to the tooling and production costs and we will ship on time (barring 'acts of God'!), as promised. We have a long and proven track record of keeping our promises, and fixing any unexpected issues quickly and thoroughly, with mutual respect.

Apart from all the engineering experience, it is our amazing strong base of passionate supporters who really ensures our success with each campaign (then ongoing retail and export success). We couldn't do it without YOU, and we are very grateful for all your support.

Thank you all!

Long-lasting design

Made from one seamless 3mm wrought monobloc of very tough wrought iron, this material won't crack like cast iron. There are no synthetic coatings or enamel, and no rivets, welds, seams or clad layers to eventually fail. It would be clear to any experienced engineer that there is far more than one century of life in US-ION™ cookware, and quite possibly millennia.....

Our multi-century warranty applies whether used in the home, restaurant, or campfire...US-ION™ is basically indestructible!

Reusability and recyclability

The beauty of seasoned iron is it is forever renewable. The cooking surface of seasoned iron is easily 'repaired' simply by more cooking with fatty/oily foods (or do more seasoning if really necessary, but only for real disasters). Other synthetic-coated pans are not repairable in this way. They are disposable, and we strongly object to all the imported synthetics going into American landfill, when we now have the option of multi-century low-stick American-made cookware. Yes, even the nonstick lasts for centuries, with the recommended care. Renewable for the life of the steel itself (potentially millennia).

Sustainable materials

Our seamless, rivetless single piece of tough wrought iron is non-toxic and will easily last multiple centuries. Pair that with simple seasoning that can be renewed yourself, indefinitely, and you have the most durable and sustainable pans we know.

Environmentally friendly factories

Our cookware is only made in factories in the USA and Australia. Those factories comply with all labor and environmental protection laws (at great cost), but we wouldn't have it any other way. We are the only production cookware manufacturer in Australia, and one of the very few remaining in the USA. We will not be sending our designs offshore to make more profit from low cost factories with questionable materials and labor practices.

Sustainable fulfillment and distribution

Apart from recycled packaging, our biggest commitment to sustainable distribution comes from locating our production closest to our biggest customer bases: Sydney for Australians, and Chicago for Americans. We were shipping a lot of containers of Australian-made pans to the USA before switching to manufacturing locall in the USA, and the difference in carbon footprint is huge.

Something else

We want our supporters to buy our cookware only once, and hand them down for multiple generations as treasured heirlooms. That's why we stamp the date of manufacture on every pan.

We are immensely gratified by the acclaim of our products and our sales success, but our greatest source of pride is the parents and grandparents already planning to hand down our pans as family heirloom history....

USA 3mm worked iron, not cast. Machine wrought in Chicago from US iron in a patented 1-piece construction, per all the specifications ('Campaign' in main menu). Raw finish, wax coated, ready for seasoning.

Limited Earlybird deal! Great value entry price for anyone who hasn't tried our wrought iron yet, and can't quite believe what the chefs/experts are saying, or the international success of our original pans.

Each pan stamped 'First Edition' and month/year of manufacture, for heirloom collectibility.

Shipping available to most countries, except Europe (tariffs are too high). Ask for manual freight cost addition for Hawaii, Alaska, remote locations.

If your country has import duties or taxes, those will be your responsibility, as importer (like any import).

Thank you for backing our seamless wrought cookware vision and helping us make HISTORY, not just the best cookware.
