Meaningful recipes and stories that are being passed down through the generations, from one family member to the next, many using whole foods and traditional cooking techniques.
A lot of history and heart went into each of these recipes and stories from members of our Solidteknics Lovers Group (a members-only Facebook group of 5,000+ solid supporters and genuinely friendly cooks). But you don't need to be a 'Lover', and this is not just an insular 'feel good' exercise: the recipes here are well tested and practical for anyone wanting to put great food on the table.
Note: all ingredients will be listed in both Australian/European and USA weights and measures - no conversions necessary!
These solid recipes will work for anyone, but if you already own our Solid wrought iron or stainless cookware, you will find these recipes perfectly tailored to your cookware, with temperatures and times that extract the best performance from our exceptional cookware materials.
'Heirloom' food that stands the test of time, for cookware that will do the same, but more than just food and cookware: a community, and a movement.
We've grown a great core group of followers through 20+ successful Kickstarter launches of our patented cookware, so it just made sense to launch our first cookbook in the same way.
We are all so excited to be revealing our Volume 1, Limited First Edition cookbook, motivated and written 'by the crowd for the crowd'!
The economics of printing means we really need pledges for 1,000 Solid Cookbooks. It's just not economical to print fewer. Like our cookware, we need you to help turn this cookbook dream into a reality!
If we reach our funding goal by the deadline, we'll ship your First Edition copies in August, if not earlier. (Kickstarter will only ever charge your credit card after a campaign successfully closes.)
Like the launch of all our Solidteknics cookware in 20+ past Kickstarters, this cookbook was generated by a core of true believers, not just contributors. You will know it as soon as you open it: these are not corporate edited recipes, nor PR-massaged prose. These stories are writted from the heart, by cooks who share our vision for handing down a legacy of heirloom cooking, and the shared table. Such an important value - we feel very strongly - to pass on to coming generations who will be increasingly pulled away from the solid old traditions.....the ones that probably count most, in the long run.
Everyone loves visual beauty, and all the practical recipes wouldn't make an attractive cookbook without exceptional photography, writing, and artwork. We were blessed to have a real pro in those arts among the Solid Lovers Group: Rob Dose, above. Samples of his work in this Kickstarter are just a taste of how beautiful they will look in high quality print.
Mark grew up with stories about Thunderbolt, the infamous Aussie bush ranger, because his great grandfather, William Monckton, was Thunderbolt's young offsider.....
You can imagine the wide eyes of the family children when, on special occasions, his shotgun was pulled out of Grandfather's wardrobe!
As Mark grew older, it was a passage in the book written about Bill Monckton's adventures that caught his eye: a very special meal that Thunderbolt would cook for them in the bush:
See the story, and results of Mark's search for the historic recipe inside the Solid Cookbook.
A strong hope for the Solidteknics team is that the Solid Cookbooks be passed down through many generations as a family heirloom, along with our multi-century durable cookware. So we've left a number of pages blank at the end (exact number still to be determined by print viability (they print in blocks of 16 pages).
This cookbook is already very personal in all the printed content, as a statement of our shared values, but imagine how much more personal for your descendants when they read your hand-written recipes and personal stories?!
Make the Solid Cookbook a time capsule of the food and thoughts you hold dearest, and want to pass down as valuable family heritage. Just remember to leave space for future generations!
We had no choice but to go for highest quality, in honour of the gorgeous photography and artwork by Rob Dose, and to ensure durability over decades, and centuries, for a cookbook we sincerely hope will be passed down through many generations.
Yes we could save money printing the Solid Cookbook offshore, or with cheaper materials, but that wouldn't ring true with our core values of 'durable, sustainable, local'. For multi-generation durability you need very high quality printing. We are printing in Australia to ensure that the Solid Cookbook meets our high standards.
The cover of this first edition Solid Cookbook, Volume 1, will be printed with 'Limited First Edition', for heirloom collectibility, and to show our appreciation for your support for the very first print edition of our first ever cookbook. We hope there will be many more over the years, decades, centuries, and this edition will become THE most highly prized Limited FIRST Edition of all of all First Edition Volumes to come.
Like our cookware, First Editions will never be reprinted after the Kickstarter production run.
However, if this First Edition Kickstarter is successful enough to cover costs, we would love to launch a 'Volume 2', and so on, each with completely new content.
Between crowdfunded First Edition launches, if we think there is a big enough demand for a 'retail edition', we'll make another print run of this the Solid Cookbook to hold in stock for retail/online, but it won't be exactly the same. A lot of the very personal (and somewhat confidential), text in this First Edition was written for our core group of true believers, and their circle of friends, who would generally share similar values. A retail edition would be a little 'watered down for the general public', you could say, but probably still be far more personal and 'familial' than the average 'collection of recipes' cookbook!
Remember: these reprints also wouldn't be printed with 'Limited First Edition' on the cover.
If you're a Solidteknics Lover, or just a lover of family food tradition, please don't miss this Kickstarter. We will never again print this Volume 1 as 'First Edition'.
However, we will make a small print over-run of this First Edition to hold in stock for future members of our Facebook Solidteknics Lovers Group, only. We think newcomers to the Group will appreciate the chance to read the insights into the Solid Vision that were shared for the first time in this rare First Edition.
Those remaining copies will probably need to be shared out very sparingly, so if you want to give the gift of an inspirational heirloom cookbook to the cooks you love, please be sure to pledge for multiple copies in this Kickstarter launch campaign before the closing date, because they probably won't be available afterward.
Plan ahead for Christmas, birthdays, etc! Could there be a better gift for the cooks you love ... along with Solid heirloom cookware?!
Those of you who know us will know we never discount our cookware. However, we wanted to find a way to offset the cost of this Australian-made cookbook somehow, and came up with an exclusive 10% one-off discount on our cookware for anyone who pledges for the Solid Cookbook.
If you have need of more Solidteknics pans, or want to stock up on gifts for cooks, use the voucher we will send you a week after the Kickstarter closes to save 10%. So, if you were to order A$690 or more, your Solid Cookbook will have been effectively free!
It is a real honour to see glowing reviews for our draft cookbook from some of the most respected leaders in food, health, sustainability, and all the values we hold dear.
None of this would have been possible without our Solid community, and particularly the regular contributors to the wonderful Solidteknics Lovers Group on Facebook. If you've seen our Group posts, you will know just how good Groups can be when they're filled with like-minded and supportive folks. This is the internet at its community best!

If you don't know us well, here's some Solidteknics background ...
We launched a whole new cookware industry for Australia when we crowdfunded our first Solidteknics Australian iron cookware here on Kickstarter in September 2014.
In 2107 we launched the world-first, patent-pending nöni™ cookware: the only seamless one-piece stainless steel cookware in the world, and easily the most durable.
Our high performance wrought iron and stainless steel cookware is acclaimed by chefs and experts, selling strongly at retail in Australia, and exported to the USA and UK.
Solidteknics is still the only production cookware made in Australia. Every other brand is imported, and disposable synthetic nonsticks sadly still dominate our retail shelves.....and landfills, with an estimated 1.2 million dumped every year.
We're helping change attitudes to all that waste and damage, and witnessing a growing movement rejecting disposable/toxic cookware, and all kinds of unsustainable habits, for the sake of future generations.

Risks and challenges
We are now well established as cookware manufacturers in two countries, and we know a lot of cookbook authors, but it's true we've never launched a cookbook ourselves before now.
However, we think the risk for us and backers in this project is negligible for a few reasons:
1. The cookbook is 99% finished, and it is GOOD: filled with stunningly beautiful professional photography, writing, and well-tested recipes, and it is print-ready according to the experts who we've engaged to help get the book to print stage.
2. The Australian printer we've selected is one of the best, with a long history of printing the highest quality cookbooks, using only the best materials. They print in Australia, not organise offshore printing: an essential for remaining aligned with our values. We have been working closely with them on the specifications, and we will continue working closely with them throughout printing and delivery.
3. We've quoted a very conservative long lead time for Rewards (much longer than the printer's quoted lead time), just in case of surprises, but we believe we'll be able to beat the promised ship date significantly, and surprise all our backers with early delivery.
If our backers allow us reach our target in time, the funds will be quickly applied to the printing, and we will ship ahead of time (barring 'acts of God'!), as promised. We have a long and proven track record of keeping our promises, and fixing any unexpected issues quickly and thoroughly, with mutual respect.
Apart from all our experience in the food/chef industry, it is our amazing strong base of passionate supporters who really ensures our success with each campaign (then ongoing retail and export success). We couldn't do it without YOU, and we are very grateful for all your support.
Thank you all!
