CAD software has always been a part of our team's life-we have been developing in this field for over 15 years. Bootstrapping both of our CAD companies, UniCAD and SolidFace, has proven to be a significant challenge. During this period we've invested over $1.5 million in research and development, and in adding the talent and knowledge necessary to achieve our goals.
Solid Share, our newest project, will leverage all our knowledge in software development to create a truly complete tool. This tool will integrate a professional CAD application with a community network in one free platform. Users will be able to import, create, and distribute their designs directly to consumers, friends, and to the entire community for in-home manufacture. Makers, hardware startups, and all users will have a blast with this, but that's only the tip of the iceberg.
Our solution will also enable users to post their devices, services, and much more, connecting their 3D printing, scanning, modeling, and rental services directly to consumers. We've all seen the rise of 3D printing sites offering files and printing services that can be bought and sold online.
However, they all lack one fundamental solution - a truly professional 3D CAD software program integrated into their platforms. Solid Share is just that - a FREE and professional CAD software program enhanced by a fully integrated collaborative social community. Solid Share will empower collaborative design and interaction between users while incorporating all 3D design needs in one FREE platform! We invite you to unleash your imagination and design without limits!
Revolutionizing the 3D design industry.
This is an exciting time to get involved. We launched SolidFace Professional's first commercial version in the first-quarter of 2015, and we just released the 2016 version. While our Kickstarter campaign runs, you’ll be able to observe together with us in real-time as we validate and improve it. Since it is the base for Solid Share deployment as well as other key modules that are currently being developed. This is a huge opportunity for us to learn, apply and improve this knowledge that will be later on applied in Solid Share.
Here’s where you come in. The estimate budget for Solid Share is projected at $2.45 million, of which we have just over $1.6 million left to raise. We’re almost there, but our remaining push definitely will be crucial to getting to Solid Share launch. So we’re reaching out to the Kickstarter community for backing at this essential moment.
We invite you to join us in this 3D revolution and help Solid Share revolutionize the 3D design industry.
If you like the project, you can pledge money to help make it happen. We'll only collect on pledges if the project succeeds in reaching its funding goal before the target date.. If the project falls short, no one is charged. Funding on Kickstarter is all-or-nothing.
The features listed below will be implemented in accordance with the investment received by the project. We always will try to provide the greatest number of features with the best quality possible. Our goal is to deliver a complete platform, and we'll always look for new ways to improve upon this project.
• Free, unlimited access to professional 3D/2D CAD (design software).
Have an idea for a new feature? Use the comments area to let us know! We plan to conduct surveys after the initial stage of the project is completed to find out what new functions should be added in the next iteration.
NO, DEFINITELY NOT!
SITES LIKE Shapeways, Thinkercat, CGTrader, Fabribles, Fabster, Instructables, Thingiverse and all others will have access to our API to make their design directories available for our users. We want to create a platform that's open to the entire 3D printing community, and we think those sites are an important part of it.
SolidFace product helped us get started on multiple fronts. Based on this revenue stream and the support of additional clients from around the globe, we were able to focus on building a view of the new interface; conducting extensive technology research; developing most of the cloud and storage code; and aligning ideas on the role of community engagement. Here's a quick update on all we've been up to.
Work already completed:
• 100% of the professional 2D/3D CAD component.
• 100% of all communication needed to make it run in the cloud.
• 100% of all communication need to save/load files on our servers.
• 80% of the new CAD interface design.
• 70% of the designs for the community site, member profiles, and store design.
• 30% of the coding needed for the community network.
• 10% of the coding needed for the marketplace.
If you’ve already pledged at any tier, you can include an Add-On to your pledge. To add an add-on, go to the add-on pledge you wish to add. There is a limit of no more than two add-ons of any type per person.
If you’d like to go above that number, send us a Kickstarter message and we’ll see what we can do.
We are establishing a bold Kickstarter goal of $385,000, with stretch goals that take us all the way up to the $1.6 million mark. As we achieve our stretch goals, we will distribute more digital-only rewards for all backers of $25 or more. Rewards will include developer interviews, live demos and chat, software sneak peeks, short previews of the newest features, and more.
Does more funding mean more stuff?
Absolutely! More funding will allow us to hire a bigger and more diverse team. This can translate to support for more languages and potentially even cooler future features.

The after effect:
Solid Share represents a significant jump forward in the way we think about 3D design, as well as the technology behind it. Through this software, we're making it possible for groups, maker communities, hardware startups, and personal technology products such as 3D printers and 3D scanners, to use an innovative platform for a huge variety of 3D design projects. Solid Share will also “pay it forward” to many other Kickstarter projects by giving them access to free, professional solutions for their 3D design needs.
Risks and challenges
While 3D modeling software platforms are sophisticated solutions, SolidFace Technology has had years of expertise in developing these complex systems. Our team, which is in its 10th year of existence, has a proven track record of successful 3D modeling software launches. We released UniCAD in the early days of the CAD industry, and SolidFace Pro is our second project to hit global market levels.
As with most Kickstarter campaigns, tour main challenge is providing a fully accurate delivery date, which can only be determined once we know how much funding we have. As funding increases, we can increase the range and depth of the product, but this will unavoidably impact the release date.
Our initial estimate is based on a $2.45 million budget, and we will openly communicate on changes to the release date as our project progresses. SolidFace has an established revenue stream from SolidFace Pro. This revenue is invested directly back into the software we’re developing. This revenue stream, along with Kickstarter funding, will allow us to improve the quality of our project, and provides additional security to see the project through to completion.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
