Thank You for your support! If you missed us on our campaign, please visit us on our website at www.solacesupboards.com for pre-orders.
Hi, my name is Rich Price, founder/owner of Solace SUP Boards. We need your help bringing in our new stand up paddle board models and eco accessories for 2016. The three new shapes that our customers have been asking for are tested and ready to launch. As a small business, the challenge is the additional upfront inventory cost to hit the minimums required to produce our custom shapes and new hemp board bag sizes that will fit them. That is the reason for our Kickstarter campaign, to help get us funded and allow us to pull in a larger inventory order with an expanded product line.
Supporting our Kickstarter campaign will help:
- Meet minimum order quantities
- Bring new models to market faster
- Be part of pushing a small business to the next level
How it works:
Choose a reward over in the right hand side of this page that starts at just $1. Pictures and descriptions of rewards and boards are towards the bottom of this page. Kickstarter is all or nothing crowdfunding platform. When you make a pledge on one of our reward packages, you will only be charged if our project is fully funded by the end of the 30 day period deadline. If funded, all swag rewards will be shipped or available for pick up in January 2016 or sooner. All boards and core accessory rewards ( board bags, paddle bags and paddles) will be shipped by April 2016 or sooner to allow production time. We organized some great and unique rewards for you at great prices for getting in early on our exciting products. Comparable boards on the market are selling for $1,500 - $3000 with less features.
Who we are:
Solace SUP is an authentic boutique stand up paddle board brand pushing boundaries on materials, shapes, design and the customer experience. We pride ourselves on detail and steer away from being generic. We use less plastic and sustainable materials where we can, without hindering quality and performance. We live a water lifestyle of adventure and fitness with like minded people.
Our Motto: Travel. Paddle. Explore.
It all started back in 2010. I was living outside of Washington DC working 60+ hours a week. Sundays were my only day off and being from the eastern shore of Maryland, I was missing the water. I started renting a few stand up paddle boards in the area and developed a passion. Purchasing a board was difficult at that time as not many retailers were carrying them and online stores offered choices but there were two extremes. You could purchase a cheap generic board that didn’t perform good or a very high dollar board from a large corporate company. Saving half of my income in a year's time and researching, creating, sampling, paddling, consulting with the local small business administration and custom board shapers; Solace SUP Boards was born in late 2012. Our team had began to take shape.
I sparked a relationship with Derek of Wave Tribe, a surf company out of California, about a collaboration idea and creating a line of eco stand up paddle gear. This made sense as they are the first eco surf company that has been around for 7+ years and we would be the first stand up paddle company to offer products such as hemp board bags and cork traction pads. Wave Tribe's proven quality in the surf market helped us stream line testing and allowed us to focus on designing great traction pads and bags for the stand up paddle market using less plastic. Derek is also considered a mentor that has helped with his wealth of knowledge in product development, logistics and overall stoke! Check him out here: Wave Tribe
Another key team member is local eastern shore artist, Dean Mcnelia. He brings unparalleled art skills and creativity to our brand. He has the best ink pen and watercolor art around. A lot of the professional pictures on our website were taken by him. Check him out here: DM Surf Art
I moved back to my hometown right outside of Ocean City, Maryland and made our first sale in 2013. Our small product line that focuses on quality at a mid level price point was a hit! I feel our biggest reason for success is that we invest a lot more in making a quality product that has unique and better materials that someone loves to use and feels good about. We tend to draw those type of customers that appreciate this.

Our Boards & Process:
Alll our boards are CAD designed and cut by a AKU shaper machine for consistent shapes and then hand finished for the final touches. We source our materials from the USA, Australia, Portugal, China and Taiwan. We currently use a vacuum bagging bamboo sandwich technique called T-Flex technology. It keeps our boards light, strong and gives a slight flex that feels great under your feet. A big difference from a stiff molded PVC or plastic board.
Adjustable ProBox fin systems are used on models with the side fins and they can be tweaked to your preference and paddling conditions giving you a board that you can grow into.
The LiftSUP retractable handles are used on all models and make our boards easy to carry.
Testing is in the works for the use of plant based BIO Resin, recycled foam cores and sustainable fibers to further our mission. When we feel testing is satisfactory, we will implement these ingredients with our boards construction in the future. Please check out our Technology tab on our website for more technical construction information by clicking on the picture below.
All boards come with our exclusive eco cork composite deck pad made by Wave Tribe and designed by us specifically for the board model.
Custom Solace bamboo glass fins come with our Kick Starter promotion on select models and carbon race boards will come with a “click it” technology Gladiator fin made by Fibre Glass Fin Co. out of California.

Risks and challenges
Two challenges could occur when we are funded and place our larger order.
1). Production Delayed- Our biggest challenge would be a production delay. A typical product order with the board's takes 90 days for proper construction, finishing and to arrive to our shipping warehouse here in Maryland with no delays. A March 2016 ship date on all boards gives us a few weeks of cushion if any delays should happen to occur. We have had delays in the past because of smaller orders but are less likely with a larger order due to priority. Consistent updates will keep all our backers in the loop with a worst case scenario of board shipments to backers can be edging into April 2016. I will personally be at our factory during this production run to help avoid potential delays.
2). Running Out Of Space- Adding extra bag sizes, accessories and board models will start making our workspace a little tight in our current 1,000 square foot leased warehouse. Luckily, the property owner loves us and has agreed to lease his personal storage area right next door if needed for pennies on the dollar. Proper space is available when we need it.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
