PLEDGES ABOUND!

Hello Explorers,

Over the course of development there have been some changes to how several of the products unlocked through this Kickstarter will be packaged. Last week we told you about the merging of Arcade and The Midnight Tower. This week we want to answer your questions on how these changes affect each and every pledge level. The first key point to note is that you will receive every item you pledged for, and in most cases will be receiving even more. It is also important to note that retail packaging and Kickstarter packaging is not always the same. For instance, the vast majority of the free stretch goals will be arriving in bonus boxes, not retail packaging. This is typically done due to logistics reasons, as well as differences between what makes a good retail product versus what makes a good Kickstarter bundle. Let’s dig in.

PRODUCT CONTENTS

First, let’s go over the big items and their contents. Before we do, we want to address one item of terminology. With Super Dungeon: Arcade being broken out as a standalone, we are now referring to Super Dungeon: Explore “Classic Mode” as simply, Super Dungeon: Explore (or Explore for short). We are dropping the term “Classic”.

The various Super Dungeon game modes (which all utilize your existing models and tiles) are:

COMPLETIONIST The Completionist pledge is identical to the Legendary pledge except Bosses of Legend I and Bosses of Legend II are included in your bonus items. ******

As you can see, every pledge continues to receive everything promised during the Kickstarter and all of them have received some great enhancements.

Over the last week we have finalized the look and layout of Explorer’s Mighty Monster Chart and the Hero’s Backpack. They are both currently in editing. We will take a look at them next week. We also completed the art for the alternate profiles on the Nether Elves and Spiders, and they look simply awesome!

It's going to be around Christmas before they ship, and around Feb before we get it. Feel the reality and life will be a lot less stressful. Looks like KD is going to arrive first teehehe.

@SPM So I had some more questions for the Q&A tomorrow, if this is the right place for it.

      - First kind of off topic of Legends, but would be good to know, but will any of the alternate artwork monsters see original sculpts in the future? It will be hard to see spiders as crabs for instance.

      - Assuming that Legend adventures are built around the Explore mode, how will Arcade Mode be integrated into the system? Will it give concrete instructions on what to do or more suggestions? Will each scenario have separate instructions on how to handle it for Explore and Arcade? An example would be Traps, searching the room, monster ambushes, etc.

      - How will you handle the premade adventures that were part of the Kickstarter in regards to required content? Will some adventures (i.e. Rotten Wood) state that it requires certain sets in order to be played? Will other adventures be generic enough to be played with anything you have?

      - Will tools used to create your own maps and adventures be available to players? It was said that the community will be able to create and share their own adventures. Will there be a toolset that you could download that includes templates, pictures, icons, etc. that you would need to create your adventure? Examples would be pictures of the boards, icons of enemies, page layouts to make it look official, etc.

      - Can you explain any more about Rank cards and the criteria for equipping them? How will crystal affinity play a role in this?

I must say, I am really tiring of the wait. But wait I must. This sucker should never have gone to KS in the state it was in at the time.

    6. Danteire on May 29

@Da Skyman From what I have seen in the updates, the move to double sided map is a good one since Legends has moved to a stand-alone set. Before you would have to own either the 2.0 or Forgotten King sets to avail of the tiles, now you get everything in the box bar miniatures.

As for the "reveal as you go", well if you are playing co-op Arcade style (I'm sure its still supported...for now anyways) you will be looking at a page with the full map laid out....no mystery there. If playing with a consul and desperately need secrecy, have the Hero players go to another room to make their heroes while the Consul lays out the mat and you can cover the unrevealed room swith some A4 sheets or some newspaper or something as an active "Fog-of-war".

On alt-gender models vs unique, you are going to be making a hero from the 12 classes so, yes, some of the miniatures may look similar but the 12 will give you enough variety to cover all the bases (Paladin, Barbarian + Hearthsworn = most of the STR, maybe Cleric (if you go War Priest like I always do); Mage = all the WILL classes; Riftling = melee DEX; Ranger = ranged DEX) Even then the Arcade base set only gives you 2 melee warriors, 2 casters, a melee DEX and ranged DEX too. I would like to see 3 or 4 more hero minis added to the Legends set to round out some of the classes but its still early days. Possibly also add some more creep type enemies like bats/wolves/goblins to help round out more generic adventures. Which leads onto....

...the Fae Woods and Dragonback adventures. I would say these might be drawn back to just be the 2 locations, rather than facing monsters respective to those regions. If Legends is to be standalone, it need to be built so either adventure can be played with whatever boxes of miniatures you buy (but also could need some in the set to allow straight, outta the box playing).

The main thrust of Legends will be Consul run campaigns, so they will be able to take whatever miniatures and tiles you have on hand and craft a set of adventures with those. Its like SD:Arena, just grab the box and some warbands and away ya go!

I love the huge update! So many details and bonus material!

I can imagine that making a physical product of this size and quality takes time and can have setbacks and rely on third parties for various tasks. However it seems like some weeks the updates are quite small. Might I suggest to try and beef up some of these smaller updates with FAQs that people are asking about? In particular I see questions and concerns about the dates and release schedule of the various waves. Or maybe even a live stream Q+A on a Friday or weekend might be good to quickly answer some of the questions.

    8. Da Skyman on May 29

Wondering about something else now too: the legends tiles. Those, apparently, have been broken out into bonus content. Presumably, this makes space for the hero panels and addition of hero models. So they get replaced by the double sided map for the 2 included campaigns.
But how does that work with Legends being a 'reveal as you go' game where the players aren't supposed to see the entire dungeon?

This is a pretty big change too. Now to get the sideroom/hallway tiles you are presumably going to have to buy another expansion to go with Legends. Unless the tiles are no longer important to Legends, which would be a huge bummer. I don't think I'd appreciate buying an expansion to play a game mode, then find out I have to buy another expansion if I want to play that game mode on real tiles (which SPM themselves have identified as key aspects of their SD brand).

Personally, I'd sooner have those tiles in the box than the alt-genders. Especially when you wouldn't get All the alt-genders and their appeal changes a lot depending on which 'starter' set you got.
If you got Arcade first, then moved on to Legends, you get 6 new heroes and 6 new models. If you start with Explore then get Legends, you get 6 new models for the heroes you already have. Arcade + Legends = 12 heroes, Explore + Legends = 6 heroes.

ONE MORE THING (sorry). Are the two campaigns still going to be Dragonback and Fae Wood campaigns? Seems like at this point Dragonback and TMT would be the expected campaigns. Otherwise what do you do if you buy Arcade then buy Legends?

    9. John nugent on May 29

      @Bryan Bledsoe
You can cancel your pledge. I just canceled mine a few weeks ago. You'll lose 8% to cover the Kickstarter cut, but you'll get everything else back.

I canceled mine because I didn't realize the New Player pledge wasn't going to get all the unlocked stretch goals. I was really excited for all the stuff that was getting unlocked that I didn't see it was pledge level dependent. The lateness of delivery helped, too.

Also, I am completely at a loss to understand how it is that the Rule 63 Heroes aren't a set. It's not like you don't have enough other Heroes for TMT.

Otherwise it's probably best put ALL of the Rule 63 Heroes in Legends, which didn't promise any Heroes to begin with, but can certainly include the lot of them as DIY Heroes are the theme of the set.

"I can confirm that Dark Consul backers will be getting Explore cards for their Midnight Tower models."
@nekodachi - the entire issue /goes away/ if SPM would just keep the cards with the models, rather than this confusing notion of tying the TMT Explore cards to SDE 2.0 and the SDE 2.0 Arcade cards to TMT. Take advantage of the Waves and just do a SDE 2.0 completer pack with the Arcade cards, rather than bundling them into TMT.

Or am I reading the lists incorrectly?

    13. Jon Pryor on May 28

So those of us with the "EXPLORER PLEDGE" are no longer getting the New King Starfire? that is a shame, seemed like one of the highlight adds. seems a bit odd as I thought this was an upgrade to the New Player Pledge ><

    14. Jeff Wass on May 28

That's all great and useful information - thank you.

But when am I going to get all the stuff you listed - is that a 3 month plan, 6 month plan, 12 month plan??

"When it's ready" is fine when you know that before signing up; not 6 months after it was already due.

@ Brian Wallis, the Sorceress is moving to the Midnight tower box, the Druid hasn't been announced yet.

    18. Brian Wallis on May 28

If I'm reading right, Deeproot Druid/Angry Bear and Hexcast Sorceress have been taken out of the core EXPLORE game, but are being given separately to those who pledged for the base game. How will these 2 heroes be made available at retail?

I ask because I'm a DC backer but I was likely going to eventually get the new EXPLORE game at retail so that I had the new cards... but don't know how I'll get the new cards for those models if I do.

@All - Hey guys, we have found a few things were missing from the pledge lists we posted. We will be updating/correcting the list.

    20. Alexandre Valois on May 27

@Nathaniel, that is correct, both sculpt will be shipped to people who included Explore (2.0 Core) in their pledge rewards. They are referred to as Starfire and King Starfire (which comes with new cards)

    21. Nathaniel Andrew Foster on May 27

I don't know if this has been asked yet and i haven't gotten through all the comments but i thought we were getting both of the starfire sculpts and wasn't seeing that represented in the list. Is this still a thing?

    22. Alexandre Valois on May 27

Regarding everyone asking about the Explore cards for TMT...

To my knowledge SPM hasn't yet addressed or answered this anywhere, however it has been said numerous times that all backers should get all content they pledged for.

On the campaign page, the content list for TMT includes both Classic and Arcade mode cards, so it would be reasonable to expect that they'll find a way to have those shipped out to every DC backers along with TMT in Wave 2...

    23. Bytemeh2 on May 27

First, this was a nice update. As a DC backer I'm very excited to be getting the full Arcade Rules as I've grown to love this version of the game through the beta.

However, as a DC backer I have one major concern, which I hope SPM can address in a future update or comment. It looks like the DC pledges will not receive Explore versions of The Midnight Tower monsters, as these are now in the 2.0 box. So I will not be able to field all my awesome new TMT models in explore games! :(

Is this an oversight? I assumed in the original version of TMT, it would have included all applicable cards (Explore and Arcade) - similar to the current Warband boxes but at the scale of Caverns of Roxor/Von Drak. That's why I chose DC as my original pledge.

Still super excited and anxiously awaiting. - Larry

Thank you for explaining what you're doing with TMT and Legends, and how things are repackaged to upgrade TMT and Legends into full starter sets. That's great.

The only thing that I'm still unhappy about is not having the cards follow the models.

Can someone at SPM please explain why they can't keep the cards with the models?

The baseline expectation, based on precedent set by FK is that ALL cards follow the model. Explore should have ALL of the cards for the models in the Explore box, and Arcade should have ALL of the cards for the models in the Arcade box. Forcing FK Classic players to also buy Explore to get the TMT Explore cards for their TMT models is a bad change that hurts the players and confuses things.

Curious about something though. What will retail look like for the alt-gender hexcast, druid. and Mad cat? The hex cast sorcerer in particular seems in a weird place

    28. Brian Dawes on May 27

Is King Starfire going to be made available for purchase again soon? I am slightly disappointed that King Starfire wasn't ever an option for purchase for Dark Consul but is now being retroactively added to Legendary and New Player Pledges. I was just late enough to not be able to buy King Starfire from the store (and was contantly checking to see if it was put back in stock and even setup an ebay alert if one every came available) but early enough to have literally everything else as far as being a completionist so not being able to get KS now really blows...

This is nice to know, but what I would really like to know is any kind of info about a release schedule. Are we 3 month away from getting our hands on the first mini? Half a year. A year? Any indication would be great.

Great job bringing a content update this week. Hope you can all get a solid rest this long weekend and continue to tackle Legends next week. Very much looking forward to Arcadian Dunes and Clockwork Cove as the next big Explore areas.

Q: Is the release schedule website going to be used? (http://ninjadivision.com/release-schedule/). Please advise, I will stop checking (probably makes sense to delete the url as well on your end).

Q: Wave 1 delivery time-table would be much appreciated. With school wrapping up for the kids, we have multiple trips planned, and I shudder thinking about my boxes of chibis sitting on the front step for a week.

Q: Is most of the Legends work currently mechanics or story? We can obviously help with mechanics testing, but story is all you guys!

@Stephen Taylor Well Heroes use the same cards for both Explore and Arcade. If you mean the Arcade cards for the Classic monsters, the cards will come in the Midnight Tower Arcade box but if you only backed the Classic box solo ($60 pledge level) you will get the arcade cards bundled in with your pledge alongside a set of the rules and cards needed to play Arcade.

Thanks for the update & please continue to "mess around" so we get a great quality product. On a side note is there going to be a y chance to get ARENA through pledges manger, been waiting for store to get it with EU area shipping rates but no luck yet.

Maybe I missed it (that was a lot of info) but did this update state that we're getting arcade cards for the heroes we get in the super dungeon classic game? Will these cards be in the arcade box?

    35. Solkan on May 27, 2017

Your reorganization is logical and its reason is legitimate. Your communication on the subject, clear, is welcome and is all to your credit.

However, I wonder how this will affect the current range, the references already released. I am thinking in particular of the Super Dungeon Explore 2, Forgotten King, which was supposed to be an update of the range. But here, I feel like I already have to do a version 3.

      Will you offer update packs?

Thanks for writing this all up for us. I've been wanting to have a clear idea of how things are packaged.

I think it is a good idea to package Arcade and Explore separately.

Definitely looking forward to seeing what Legends looks like. I suppose you guys are doing a lot of testing about now...

Woah nekodaichi, we literally have a hero card for Monarch Tvar in the beta documents. Has this been scrapped?

    38. Chuck on May 26, 2017

Why does it say "no alternate profile" with those 3 mini-bosses. Monarch Tvar has a hero card correct?

    39. Alexandre Valois on May 26, 2017

@Ragnar, if I recall correctly, the KS pledge levels capped at Legendary, while Completionist was created in the pledge manager for people who had pledged for Legendary + Bosses of Legends expansions.

So if I pledged at Legendary and paid for the two boss expansions ($300 altogether) does that automatically take me to completionist level? (which seemed to pop up from somewhere as I just recall Legendary as the pinnacle before).

    41. Alexandre Valois on May 26, 2017

      @Recon, they don't

    42. Recon Games on May 26, 2017

How do these changes affect shipping costs?

    43. Bryan Bledsoe on May 26, 2017

Is there any possible way to cancel a pledge at this point? Curious since this project has gone far beyond any projected delivery dates.

    44. jerome on May 26, 2017

Hey soda pop, Are those alternate Nether Elves and Spiders gona be made in physical miniature? Also when are we gonna see content or news of the Halls of the Lich King expension?

@Insider - During the campaign Deke stated that Monach Tvar is far too evil to ever be hero.

So I was told this update would address some of the concerns I had regarding the fulfillment side of this project but I see its just a clarification of last weeks update... Great thanks for that sodapop.

    47. Alexandre Valois on May 26, 2017

@andres, the other 4 tiles are now included in Arcade. So the two tiles listed are "extra" to fulfill on their promise of delivering 6 tiles to backers.

@danteire, nope. I'm already reaching for my wallet. This doesn't feel like it should be a good thing. Especially those chibi crabs and seahorse rider.

    48. AliceXVI on May 26, 2017

@Andres I thought the same thing then I realised that of the 6 midnight tiles, 4 of them have gone into the new midnight tower arcade box, bringing it inline with the new core box, the other 2 are being given to use as bonus' still

    49. Danteire on May 26, 2017

@Andreas The original 6 tiles has been split into: 4 in the Midnight Tower "Arcade" box and the 2 extra, since 6 were promised in the KS.

    50. Alexandre Valois on May 26, 2017

Yeah, it would seem that the tiles from the Legends box are being replaced by a dungeon poster for retail?

As for the KS tiles, the original project description never mentioned they'd be double-sided so DBP/TMT tiles are welcome. Hopefully with more to come to upgrade all other previous tile sets in the future.

The alternative art for the nether elves spawn points look fabulous however. It seems that SPM is focusing on much more different variations now, rather than stick closely to the original minis like they did with kobolds and FK alts.

Possibly to open the doors to more model variety and warbands in the future?
