This is an action comedy that builds on suspended disbelief that vampires do in fact have everything to do with the endless music fest in the city, embezzlement from the city coffers, blackmail, and Class C Cigarettes imported from the Eastern block.
Sobeske Ban, is made up. The name is similar to a Polish Vodka and Ichi Ban beer together. Ban means number in Japanese. It means Governor in Romania. These simple syllables take on a different meaning depending on who is translating. Sobeske Ban works to help his Grandpa Ban restore and protect the churches in Detroit from dilapidation. St. Isadore is especially important important because it is the patron saint for the worker. The auto workers have been laid off in the past and now the church reflects that by being empty.
You can modify anything with a Polish Eagle and call it the Polish whatever. Grandpa is proud of his Nova, but rightly so. On his budget he makes what he has better than all those 80's hard rockin Trans Am having fools.
We have the 22 pages of artwork and scripted. We are raising money to print at least 500 - 1,000 copies of the comic for self distribution and consignment through a number of book stores from Texas, Kentucky Illinois and Michigan.
Risks and challenges
This project is the most significant and well thought out concept of my creative life. The script has taken a decade of research and rewrites. Detroit Vampires first took shape on the pages of a spiral bound notebook in 2008. Several drafts later the story went to major overhauls and introspection. The main character, Sobeske Ban was terrified of Vampires, and I wasn't sure if it mattered to him weather they were real. It took a lot to create a high concept original story like this but the final draft was completed in 2017. It is even copyrighted in the USA. We put out a 5 a page preview of Detroit Vampires in 2017 that launched at an Independent Media Expo called STAPLE. The book was very well received because of the high contrast art and campy theme. To us the characters came to life and lived a little. This showed us their nature and style. The last few months we churned out drawings like butter. Detroit Vampires is a 22 page comic, that begins the story arc for ten more issues. We really enjoy working together and are going to bring this issue to market with a deserved amount of enthusiasm. The characters that surround the story support our lead, Sobeske Ban, as he wanders through the hilariously dangerous environment of Detroit Vampires.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
