Thanks to all of you, we have reached our goal of $20,000!!!
----------- STRETCH GOAL: $25,000+ ----------
In order to get some of the more complex and challenging shots in this film, we are going to need to rent out some heavy duty equipment and add an extra day of shooting. Although this is not necessary to make our film, these shots will definitely enrich the experience.
Any extra funds that we raise for this project will go towards marketing "Everybody's a Stranger" to short film festivals around the world.
WHAT'S GOING ON!?
After directing a musical (CHICAGO) and two plays (CLOSER, GOD OF CARNAGE) in the last two years at the American University of Paris, I am shifting gears and finally creating my first short film! I have a very talented team ready to go, and to be able to make this film I am going to need you, the great masses of friends, family, acquaintances, and passers by. What is this project you might ask?
EVERYBODY'S A STRANGER
The stage is set on a cool Spring evening in Portland. A young musician named Charlotte is playing to a crowd that is having trouble paying attention. After her show, Charlotte watches as the crowd comes to life with the next act. Feeling dejected, she attempts to clear her head by walking to a food cart up the block. A chance encounter with a stranger at the cart is the start of an adventurous night that leads Charlotte out of her comfort zone but also helps her realize her true potential as an artist.
"Everybody's a Stranger" is going to be shot in Portland, Oregon, but more than that, is going to showcase it in a way that makes the city one of the main characters.
When I started this project I knew that the only way to set it apart from my previous work meant that I was going to have to rent out some serious equipment and hire people who knew their way around a film set. Also I knew that in order to be able to film at certain venue's we would need to pony up a daily rate.
Our costs include :
- Equipment Rental (Including RED Camera Package)
- Venue Rental (Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall, Goodfoot, Rotture)
- Cast and Crew Compensation
- Production Insurance
- Shooting Permit Fees
- Music Rights Fees
My Co-Producer Michael Senseman and I have gone over the numbers, and with our shooting taking place over five days, with a small crew, we agreed that $20,000 is the minimum dollar amount necessary to create this film

Risks and challenges
Risks & Challenges are present for any film project, be it a $100 million dollar Hollywood production, or a high school film class video. For "Everybody's a Stranger," our biggest challenge is based on if we get funded. I have personally put down all of the deposits necessary for the venues we are filming at, but cast and crew compensation, equipment rentals, production insurance, permit charges, and cost of venue staff will all be funded by this Kickstarter. This is not to say that there wont be any challenges on set, but after producing a musical that featured 20+ unpaid college students living in the City of Light, I think working collaboratively with 20+ paid professionals in the City of Roses should be a fairly smooth transition.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
