Charging times will vary depending on the actual device being charged, size of battery and manufacturer. However, it should be similar to any brand name 1 amp charger on the market. For example, the charge time is comparable to the 1 amp Apple charger that comes standard with the new iPhones 6 and 6 Plus. To give you an idea, we recently ran some numbers and did some testing. We charged Apple devices with the SnapPower Charger and below are roughly the charge times from 0% to 100%.
iPhone 6: 2 hours
iPhone 6 Plus: 3 hours
iPad Air: 8 hours
iPad Air 2: 7.5 hoursLast updated: -
As we prepared this initial product, the 1 amp Charger was the perfect blend of function, form and speed to market. While we believe we will be able to offer a 2.1 amp version of the Charger in the future, it will require more costly components and/or a possible larger cavity on the cover plate, as well as additional time to test new prototypes, line up manufacturing and get UL certification. That redesign, additional tooling, procuring the right components and UL cert process will take some time to figure out. Again, our focus is to get a quality product to our supporters on time. With that said, we know that our supporters will receive an amazing product with the 1 amp Charger and will enjoy the benefits of its sleek design and easy installation. We’ve done a lot of research and testing and have yet to find a USB compatible device that does not charge with our 1 amp SnapPower Charger (although some tablets and other larger devices rated for 2.1 will take longer to charge).

The SnapPower Charger comes with one charging port. The redesign to accommodate two ports, additional tooling, procuring the right components and UL certification process will take some time to figure out. Because of this we we will only be offering the one port option at this time. UL certification is the most difficult obstacle to overcome when trying to introduce a second port. UL has very specific requirements for separating input voltages from USB output voltages. It is difficult to overcome this without a complete redesign and without making the design overly large.

No, the Charger will not come equipped with LEDs. The Charger is a product we anticipate being used by the bedside in many use cases and we feel that if we were to combine this product with our first product, the LEDs would bother some people. When we do deliver a version of the Charger with LEDs we will want to incorporate an on/off switch on the product.

The Charger is compatible with standard duplex and décor outlets that have exposed screw terminals, regardless of the manufacturer or year. The SnapPower Charger does not work with Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) outlets that are sometimes found in bathrooms. The GFCI outlets do not have the required screw terminals.

The SnapPower Charger is compatible with outlets that have standard side screw terminals and operate at 100-120 volts. Below is a list of countries that have electrical systems that are compatible with the SnapPower Charger. For more information, please see this excellent resource from International Electrotechnical Commission: http://www.iec.ch/worldplugs/map.htm#
Note that some countries use more than one type of electrical system. For example, Bolivia has both a 115 V system and a 230 volt system. The Charger will only work for the 115V system when standard side screw terminal outlets are used.
United States
Canada
Mexico
El Salvador
Guatemala
Honduras
Nicaragua
Costa Rica
Panama
Colombia
Venezuela
Dominican Republic
Bolivia
Outlets in other countries do not have the required screw terminals for the SnapPower Charger to draw power from.

Yes. Each Charger ships with instructions for safe installation. Installation only takes seconds and includes turning off power to the outlet, removing your old cover plate, placing the Charger over your outlet and re-inserting the screw to hold the Charger in place. If you are unsure that you can successfully follow the included instructions, please contact a licensed electrician.
