Smitey Heroes started as a game that two people can play enjoyably without wanting to actually Smite the other, as well as be light, quick, and most importantly airport friendly. It is easy to pick up and play with a newfound friend or the kid in your life who isn't quite ready to play Magic (but probably will).
Smitey Heroes will be printed on poker sized 280 gsm blue core card stock with a gloss finish as well as include a saddle stitch bound 16 page full color rule book and a full color glossy tuckbox. All shrink-wrapped together in one glorious Smitey package.
The object of Smitey Heroes is to Smite your opponent until their vitality reaches 0. At the beginning of the game each player has 20 vitality, measured in Health Points (HP).
To reduce your opponents vitality you need to play a combo if you can. A combo starts with a Hero, of which there are six classes: Peasants, Archers, Squires, Knights, Kings, and Wizards. To damage your opponent, you must give your hero a Weapon and a Mount. The class symbols to the left side of the card tell you which cards can be used by which heroes.
For instance above, everyone can use the dagger, but only a wizard can ride the gold dragon.
If you successfully pair a hero with a weapon on a mount, add the damage on the cards (in the example above you would do 3 damage- 2 from the dagger, 1 from the gold dragon) and subtract that number from your opponent’s vitality. Then, you must draw a card from the event deck and do as it says, for every action has consequences. Fear not however, for most event cards favor the one who drew them.
In the sad event that you cannot play a combo on your turn, you may feel the urge to throw away your hand in disgust. In fact, that is what you should do. Keep as many cards as you wish and discard the rest.
When a player has no vitality left, they lose. It’s a cruel fate, but it’s inevitable when only one hero can be the Smiteyest.
For the three levels of art rewards (original art, art aficionado, or premium art) you will be sent, along with your copy of Smitey Heroes, one piece of the original art from the designated categories (weapons, heroes and events, or mounts). All of the art was hand sketched, inked, and colored using watercolor pencils. The art is on 6"x8" 140lb Strathmore mixed media vellum surface paper.
$10,000- Double Take!- Every pledge level receives ebook copies of the first five Smitey Heroes stories by Jordan Joseph: The Four Squires, A Suitor for the Princess, The Grossest Dragon, Dragon Mountain, and Peasant Poison Pony.
$15,000- The Planets Align - We plan on printing our game with Print Ninja on standard Blue Core 280 gsm stock. If we get to $15000 in funds raised we will upgrade to Black Core 310 gsm stock. (Cardstock weight is measured in GSM. The higher the number, the thicker and heavier the stock and card will be. Generally speaking, heavier cardstock gives your cards a higher quality feel.)
Risks and challenges
This is our first Kickstarter project. That in itself is the biggest risk as unforeseen complications are sure to arise. That being said, we've done a lot of research on the topic and are fairly confident in our preparations.
On our end, the game has been completed; all artwork has been finished and the files are ready to send to the printer upon successful completion of the Kickstarter. For printing, we're using Print Ninja. We've personally backed other Kickstarter campaigns that have used Print Ninja and have been pleased with the result.
Printing and shipping will be the biggest challenge. There are any number of potential delays that we will have very little control over, including overseas shipping. We've tried to build in enough of a buffer for the rewards to arrive on time.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
