Do you think you might now finally let us know what is going on with the loyal kickstarters that gave you money and are still waiting, nearly two years later ? I live in Australia, but you should have been able to sort this issue out in the past 9 months, right ?

It has been ages since last update, for international backers, its like a disaster which never have an ETD.
The world is improvising every minutes and you are stucking there, the advanced tech we hope for might be stone age product when it really come to live.

    4. Mike van Hoenselaar on January 15, 2015

Here in Europe no update as well. It's January now :(

    5. Marc Sheldon on August 14, 2014

Thanks for advising us that you have been acquired by Samsung. Congratulations, I guess. Do you think you might now finally let us know what is going on with the loyal kickstarters that gave you money and are still waiting, nearly two years later ? Yes, I know I am in Australia, but you should have been able to sort this issue out in the past 9 months, right ?

Ridiculous that there is no further update. Please advise of your current expectations for fulfilling these orders.
August 2014 and no update for Australia.

Patience, patience - It can't be long now! They were expecting the new shipments of hub PCBs mid-February following the failed QA checks on the previous batch (see last international backers email on 21st January). I wouldn't be surprised if we see some shipping notifications this month...

@SmartThings - thanks for your honesty in communicating with the international backers (I fall into the CE category). I'm hoping that your revised Feb 2014 shipping timeline is still on-track.

You mentioned in the 25th November email that you would like us to help identify and test compatible z-wave devices. I'm just about to purchase a number of aeon labs z-wave light switches and dimmers (UK 240v version) and I'm willing to help test their compatibility - how would I go about doing this?

    21. Sean Trairatkeyoon on December 27, 2013

Another backer from Thailand here. This is now the end of 2013, a year after your "Estimated delivery" period. Hope to hear some good news at the beginning of 2014.

    22. Vagelis Fragkos on November 30, 2013

Guys it's been a month since your last update and you have completely forgotten International backers.I see backers from Australia,UK,Greece(me),Netherlands,Thailand,Malaysia,Brazil,Sweden and probably others that are so frustrated. This is 8 countries guys and you have given up and comments and updates to ALL OF US.I think we should all put a limit to our waiting and start thinking of alternatives like NINJA BLOCKS that I already possess and a REFUND.

This is the twitter exchange which led to my refund.…

I must admit I'd completely given up on ever seeing a smart thing or my money a few months ago - and even had my smartthings been delivered they'd have gone straight in the bin. I don't think I could have ethically sold on a product like this when the company behind it obviously has no interest in or care for its customers (outside the USA anyway). Given the centralised nature of the way smartthings work I'd be completely unsurprised if it was found the company was selling data extracted from smartthings to advertisers, and they'd certainly cave to eg the NSA.

My recommendation when seeking a refund is to ask nicely once, then ask loudly in public making sure high profile tech journalist with an interest in smart things are copied in. I suspect a US journalist is best - as that must be the only place in the world right now where smartthings has a better than trash reputation.

I was lucky - I informed a tech journalist who was saying positive things about this company about my entirely negative experience, which led to the CEO getting involved and a refund. I guess when they ignore us smartthings are saying they want to be outed to the press.

      Good luck.

    24. Will Luke on November 17, 2013

Their recent tweet gives us hope (Received 1st EU certified devices we had on order. Close fulfilling to most of our international Kickstarter backers!). But I have a horrible feeling they themselves are worried they can't honour the pledges. There is no other reason for their silence. It's a learning curve for them, and clearly they never anticipated backers becoming so emotionally engaged with a product. But I do hope they've learned. These are the pitfalls of Kickstarter, for them and for us - patience for us; communication for them.

    25. Nikki Gordon-Bloomfield on November 17, 2013

Please tell us how to get a refund too. I'm giving up...

Wow. To my great surprise I have now had a refund from SmartThings. Unfortunately they only offered a refund via PayPal so I had to create an account there, but once the money has moved from PayPal to my bank I can delete that.
For others lamenting any money they ever sent to SmartThings, I can state that going through the support on their website did result in a refund within 24 hours (on the 3rd time of asking, and after involving a high profile tech journalist).

    27. Arik on November 12, 2013

Creator SmartThings on October 21@All - we understand your frustration. We will be shipping to CE countries soon .Ok. When is soon?

    28. Shelley Davie on November 10, 2013

It seems to me that we have all been more than patient. We have waited over a year for our product and still no survey or anything that would lead us to believe we will not be waiting another year! I am pretty sure most people would continue to be patient if there were more regular updates. Australia doesn't seem to be waiting on anything other than a distributer. Surely it can't be that hard to let us know what's going on.

Survey sent 10/08/2012 and filled in but only asked for postal address and phone number, nothing about what items I wanted with my hub, starting to think that they have just taken our money. Come one Smartthings reply to people not just ignore us

confirmed address but not received any survey asking about what devices I want?

Please response, the last was ignored.

    31. Ramon on October 27, 2013

Just like @Dennis I'm also an international backer (Netherlands) missing the option for a power outlet... we can only choose sensors,... but what good is a sensor if you can't trigger anything with it?

    32. Peter Chodyra on October 27, 2013

Another Australian, Developer & Maker pledge backer still waiting for an update. Are we going to see our SmartThings in 2013? Still no survey email either.

    33. N. Horsthuis on October 26, 2013

I am getting frustrated now with the lack of updates on our international delivery. We've been rather patient in waiting but we would like a progress report on this matter.

    34. Drew Jackson on October 24, 2013

I emailed your support email about the us kit for non CE countries and they agreed that due to it using different frequencies in Australia it would be a very bad idea to use a US model over here.

Please let me know what is going on with Australia as your solution of a US model is not viable.

    35. Dennis Sorensen on October 22, 2013

      Dear SmartThings,

I received my survey, and I am very much looking forward to getting my kit, but please help me, as I can't seem to select the power outlets, two of which I pledged (extra) for.

Will that become an option, as promised, or?

      Thanks again!

    36. Will Chivers on October 22, 2013

Hi - please provide regular AUSTRALIAN updates. What's the go as many below have said it's taken way to long. Heck I might want to be on the Beta Testing team (oh, I can't?) That's right I don't even have my SmartThings Hub yet ... or even filled out a survey!!

Any chance of a extra thing in my kit when I eventually receive it? I feel especially sorry for those Australians who backed at "Developer Early Access" level that haven't received their kits yet - what a rout. I'll think very carefully about backing a US Kickstarter again WAY TOO SLOW AND RUBBISH COMMUNICATION.

At the time of writing, the $174 I paid you would be worth more than that of the SmartThings Hub.

    37. Mistah Oui on October 22, 2013

      Dear Smartthings,

I'm backer from Thailand. Since we have back your project from last year and still wait and wait almost one year. I think it's too long for you to show your entusiasm for our backer outsitde US. We all are backing you because we want to be the one who help and want your innovation products, but after waiting for months, your response make us feel no hope.

As your comment below, many backers are in not CE countries and you should be response for us for a long time, not leave us.

Please kindly show your responsible, please kindly tell us when we can get your complete product (with all the things you promise to us). If you know that you cannot do it, please kindly don't let us waiting and please return our money.

      Best Regards,

Back on the 16th of August you said:

"For AU Cert, we are waiting on quotes for a local representative (required for certification), but testing is done."

Could you please let us know what the status is for Australia now? I'm not expecting a delivery date, I (and many others, it would seem) would just like to know where that effort is now.

If you are having difficulties organising a local representative, letting us know may well lead to identifying a solution - you have many interested people on the ground here in Australia, after all...

    39. SmartThings Creator on October 21, 2013

I'm one of backer from Malaysia. Please sent Smartthings with 220v to me ASAP and don't care if you are going to apply for certification here or not, just send to me as-is. You've stopped replying to messages here or anywhere. If you unable to fulfill your promise pls refund back to me. I don't want the so called "Smartthings" become "Oldthings" because of out dated technology.

    43. Drew Jackson on October 21, 2013

yeah ill share my disappointment as well, i know CE certification can take a while and you have multiple items to get through certification but I'm beginning to feel like we don't matter as much to smart things as the American Market. Its been so long i forget if i have filled out the survey or not....

    44. James Bailey

A year late with indefinite delays for Australian backers, no commitment to open source, additional 'things' are more expensive than you led us to believe, and you've stopped replying to messages here or anywhere. I don't want my smartthings anymore, I want a refund.

I backed smartthings because of the commitment to open source. I've just done some research, and as far as I can see there is road-blocking on any sort of opening up of the server end of things. That is, I can't control the data collection from my devices and keep it secure on my own network.

So, I won't be buying any more smartthings, and I may not even deploy the ones I got through the kickstarter. This makes me sad.

    48. Nikki Gordon-Bloomfield on October 21, 2013

SmartThings Updates + No real news on CE Testing and shipment = Angry Backers.

    49. Daniel Shadbolt on October 21, 2013

I haven't received any survey except the Kickstarter one. I am in Australia. Like Vikash I am also a little disappointed about the lack of info/update for International Backers. Can you give us some more info on Smart things and connected devices for International orders. I am worried I will end up with 20 presence tags and nothing else.
Apart from lack of updates, I can't wait to get my hands on this. My house is so boring at the moment!
      Cheers guys

    50. Vikash on October 21, 2013

      Hi guys,

Looks like you have been busy, but a couple of sentences for international backers is not very helpful.

What issues have you now encountered, which has cause this further delay?
When do you expect to have a update on the CE certification?
What actions are taken to resolve this ASAP?
Can we have more regular updates, rather than random/ irregular updates popping up?

Although you have Twitter, Facebook, Website, Kickstarter and I am sure various other ways to communicate to backers, customers, supporters and investors (I am sure investors are differentiated from backers, hence the breakout), but I sent a private message on Facebook to provide constructive feedback and request feedback for international backers, but have not had any response at all.

Sorry for the rant, but this has been a long wait and very little way of feeling a part of the project/ journey you guys are experiencing. Please look up a project call Elroy (…) Rob has been brilliant in keeping backers involved and providing feedback. Even delays are received with positive feedback! check out the updates (every Monday) and comments.
