About

What's in the food you eat?

Did you know exposure to pesticides through the air, our food, and the environment has proven to be damaging to human health? What’s more, this is multiplied 3X more for children!

Companies like Bayer-Monsanto and Dow-Dupont deliver toxic pesticides to farmers who in turn deliver us (and our ecosystems) those toxic chemicals, resulting in that pesticide-laced smoothie or salad you just had for lunch. For decades a debate has raged in both public forums and scientific journals over the impacts to human health caused by industrial agriculture giant Monsanto’s Roundup, and other similar weed killers.

A major turning point came this year as a jury awarded $289 Million in damages and punitive fines to a California man dying of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Moreover, the 46 year old school groundskeeper, Dewayne Johnson, is not the first to have sued Monsanto after becoming sick from exposure to their products: Over 5,000 similar lawsuits have been filed against Monsanto. Through his victory, the Court has established not only that Roundup caused his cancer, but that Monsanto knew about the harmful effects of exposure to it and actively worked to cover them up.

Mr. Johnson’s suit has shone a light on how Monsanto has actively worked to suppress scientific research illuminating the harmful effects of a product like Roundup since the early 1980s. For every new study finding links to diseases like cancer, Monsanto published its own skewed version to prove it was safe - often using ghostwriters to give the appearance that it was independent and credible.

Dewayne Johnson’s case isn’t the only major breakthrough in pesticide reduction, earlier this year Hawaii banned the use of pesticides containing chlorpyrifos — a widely-used chemical that’s been linked to severe developmental delays and other health risks in children. Last year the World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) classified chlorpyrifos as a probable human carcinogen. Under this new law, not only will pesticides containing chlorpyrifos be prohibited across Hawaii, the spraying of pesticides within 100 feet of schools during normal school hours is also prohibited, changes begin Jan. 1, 2019.

We need a better way forward to produce crops to feed a growing population without making it sick; to grow healthy, vibrant fruits, vegetables, and flowers without compromising the vitality of our natural ecosystems. Large proactive groups like Moms Across America, Moms Clean Air Force, Women of Green, Pesticide Action Network, and many others help by lobbying and educating us about toxic chemicals, yet no one has offered a tangible and workable solution to this global crisis until now.

At SmartNute we are working toward a toxic-free future with better alternatives, where families like Mr. Johnson’s won’t need a court to tell them what they already know; that our toxic system is making us sick.

A toxic-free alternative to heavy pesticide use — meet SmartNute!

SmartNute was born from our love and passion for a healthy, pesticide-free environment — a twist on mainstream plant nutrition, packed with 100% of ingredients from nature, helping to keep your food (and family) free of toxins.

SmartNute is a pesticide-free, energetic based, plant food amplifier that can make your food just a bit more delicious. Food should be tasty after all!

The world's first fully energetic plant food amplifier — a better than organic alternative. One-half ounce bottle makes about 9800 gallons using 1/6 of normal soluble fertilizer dose for soil, 1/8 of normal nutrients dose used for hydroponics.
The world's first fully energetic plant food amplifier — a better than organic alternative. One-half ounce bottle makes about 9800 gallons using 1/6 of normal soluble fertilizer dose for soil, 1/8 of normal nutrients dose used for hydroponics.

Our mission is to reduce both toxic pesticide use, in turn, reducing man-made marine dead zones (algae blooms) by over 80%. We believe SmartNute will grow the next generation of healthy, vibrant fruits, vegetables, and flowers (including cannabis).

SmartNute is 100% from nature — a plant food amplifier that reduces the need for harmful and toxic pesticides.

Using SmartNute not only can help deliver more complete nutrient and fertilizer formulas, helps reduce the use of pesticides, but can also help bring back the full flavor and high nutrient value our produce offered decades ago.

Not just a plant nutrient

Providing over 80% reduction in conventional liquid fertilizer use, SmartNute can help diminish global algae blooms and marine dead zones by reducing both nitrogen and phosphorus runoff, two large contributing factors

How does SmartNute work?

SmartNute is a plant food amplifier: nourishing hydroponic, aeroponic, and soil grown plants.

Plants that are less than healthy have poor nutrition attract pests, resulting in the excessive use of pesticides. This poisons both the plant and the soil around the plant resulting in both little to no nutrition and a lack of flavor in our fruits, veggies, and other crops. There's a better alternative, reduce the use of pesticides in our crops and grow healthy, vibrant fruits and vegetables, and flowers without compromising the vitality of our natural ecosystems, by using SmartNute - the world's first fully energetic plant food amplifier.

Duplicating the action of 90+ macro, micro, and ultra-trace elements — and amino acids, enzymes, proteins, vitamins, and beneficial bacteria SmartNute ensures a healthy plant to both ward off pests and deliver intense fragrance and flavor through a high BRIX.

Fruits, veggies, and now your Cheerios?

Food Democracy Now conducted independent testing on an array of popular American food products finding that many samples contained residue levels of the weed killer, glyphosate. These tests included snacks like cookies, crackers, chip and even popular cold cereals that are commonly consumed by both children and adults.

The Environmental Working Group (EWG) Dirty Dozen and Clean 15 lists reveal produce with both the highest and lowest levels of pesticide residue (according to their methodology). Strawberries have been at the top of that list for years followed closely by spinach, nectarines, apples, grapes, peaches, cherries, pears, tomatoes, celery, potatoes and sweet bell peppers. Many of these fruits and vegetables are more than likely some of your favorites, often ending up on your family's shopping list (and dinner table) every week.

The USDA found 19 honeybee toxins, 12 developmental toxins (children), 11 neurotoxins (children), and 9 known carcinogens in strawberry crop samples.

Your nightly glass of wine isn’t safe either. People like to think of wine as “just grapes.” But there is a lot more in your wine glass than fermented grapes - when making conventional wine, literally hundreds of chemicals can be and are used. Roundup, a herbicide containing glyphosate - the chemical sitting at the center of the Bayer-Monsanto Landmark Cancer Trial — is widely used on wine grapes in conventional farming.

An anonymous supporter of advocacy group Moms Across America sent wine samples to be tested for glyphosate. 100% of the California wines tested came back positive for glyphosate — even organic wines.

Organic isn’t always pesticide-free

Let’s get one thing clear: Organic produce is not pesticide-free.

There are pesticides used in organic farming, but they are derived from natural substances rather than synthetic ones. While natural pesticides sound healthier, it boils down to how much of a specific substance you’re ingesting. For example a derivative of copper is used as a fungicide in organic farming, if ingested at inappropriate levels, this can be toxic.

What is “pesticide drift,” and should I be worried about it?

If you live near a big farm or an otherwise frequently manicured landscape (ie: golf courses, arboretums, and theme parks), “pesticide drift” could be an issue for you and your family.

Pesticide drift is the airborne movement of pesticides from an area of application to an unintended site. Not only can drift happen during pesticide application it can also happen after the application. During pesticide application some droplets or dust may travel away from the target site while drift that transpires after the application happens when some chemicals become vapors that can move off-site. Either form of pesticide drift can cause accidental exposure to people, animals, plants and property.

More Than Just Food, Pesticides Are Used In Cannabis Production

More people are smoking cannabis now than ever before, and thirty states have legalized the use of marijuana. Cannabis buds can become contaminated with pesticides in a few different ways: the direct application of pesticides on flowering plants; drift from neighbouring fields of food crops; or through systemic contamination.

Dabs, waxes and shatters aren’t immune from contamination either — in fact, according to Dr. Land —a professor of chemistry, forensic science and biotechnology at the University of California, Davis, and an analytical chemist with decades of experience who has been working with Steep Hill — extraction processes may “concentrate certain pesticides even more so than cannabinoids,”

Our Pets & Pesticides

For most of us, our dogs are part of our family. And like any family members, we do our best to keep them healthy and happy. Watching them romping and playing in the yard, chasing balls, rolling in the grass, or simply stretching out to enjoy a nap in the sun are a few of the small pleasures of having dogs in your home. But what if time spent in your yard was making your dog sick instead of happy?

An estimated 70-80 million pounds of pesticides are sprayed on home lawns every year across the country. This chemical residue can hang around for days and sometimes even weeks, coating leaves, rocks, or walkways. Leaving dogs particularly susceptible to exposure because they are lower down to the ground, tend to eat grass or other plants, and groom themselves with their mouths.

Dogs aren’t just at risk when they’re outside either — studies from the Pesticide Education Center have found that the highest concentration of pesticides can actually be found indoors, where they were often tracked in on shoes and paws, breaking down even slower than outside.

Man-made Environmental Crisis

The overuse of nitrogen and phosphorus heavy fertilizers creates marine "dead zones". SmartNute can reduce agricultural nutrients causing deadzones and algae blooms by over 80% when agriculture is applying only 1/6 the normal fertilizer quantities used.

Although Hypoxic zones can occur naturally, humans can contribute to dead zones (otherwise known as algae blooms) through any number of physical, chemical, and biological factors - although nutrient and fertilizer pollution are the primary causes.

Southwest Florida's water quality stinks. Literally.

Small flare ups of blue-green algae in rivers and lakes and red tide on the coast are not uncommon and Florida is no stranger to algae blooms. What is different this year is the scale: more wildlife has washed up dead on beaches, more people have become sick from their effects, and more tourism and fisheries businesses have suffered with no indications that the red tide is going away anytime soon.

With tourism on the decline, businesses shutting down, and residents leaving the state, the largest Florida algae bloom to date has resulted in Florida Governor Rick Scott to declare a State of Emergency.
With tourism on the decline, businesses shutting down, and residents leaving the state, the largest Florida algae bloom to date has resulted in Florida Governor Rick Scott to declare a State of Emergency.

Florida Governor Rick Scott has declared the second State of Emergency this year. But it’s not just wildlife that’s suffering: exposure to the algae can lead to respiratory issues in people. And as experts work to assess whether it’s safe to swim in or eat seafood from affected waters, tens of thousands of tourists are cancelling their trips.

Normally, the growth of algae blooms is limited by the nutrients that are available in rivers, lakes, and oceans. When the amount of nutrients flowing into rivers, lakes, and oceans are at safe, natural levels, so is the amount of algae. But when there is an influx of nutrients from man-made sources, the algae blooms grow, sometimes to catastrophic levels.

So where do all these nutrients come from?

While the symptoms are being seen on the white sand beaches and turquoise waters of the Florida coast (including world-renown Siesta Key Beach), the real root of the problem lies inland in the orange groves, fields of tomatoes and peppers and sugarcane, the manicured lawns and flower beds, and the hundreds of sprawling golf courses.

Often coming from regulated sources like waste-water treatment facilities, the majority comes from fertilizer that is carried by rainwater runoff. Whether used on farm fields, lawns, or golf courses, the chemical fertilizers commonly used are often incorrectly or over-applied and the first heavy rain that comes along washes much of the huge amounts of nitrogen and phosphorus entering tributaries that eventually lead to the ocean.

Most chemical fertilizers are the nutritional equivalent of a bag of chips — plants need more of them to get the nutrients they need. Ultimately we dump more and more on to fields, not only has this lead to the current crisis on the Florida coast, it’s also left us with unhealthy crops, requiring more pesticides to maintain crop yields.

The MEX, TX, LA, MS, AL, FL dead zone in the Gulf of Mexico, the largest algae bloom in the world (over 8,776 square miles). Damage caused largely by excessive fertilizer runoff, killing not only fish but whales, as well other important marine life.

Quality, natural sources of plant nutrition found in SmartNute are the first step to correcting this cycle, and treating the real problem, not just the symptoms. Like a well-balanced meal, SmartNute gives plants the complex, quality nutrients they need to thrive while using 6x-8x fewer nutrients, reducing toxic nutrient runoff over 80%. Imagine the effects implementing powerful, innovative solutions like this across the state could have in solving the crisis of algae blooms, the overall health of Florida waters, and solving the crisis of the weakening economy. It’s a lofty goal, but it starts with our own personal actions, in our own gardens or lawns, to reduce the impacts on our local waterways, ecosystems, and community health, and to contribute to a toxic-free future.

We Want To Build A Toxic-Free Future For Our Children

Children tend to frequent areas where pesticides are used more often — like parks and playgrounds. A child's skin is much more permeable than an adults and their skin surface area relative to body weight is higher (making it much easier for children to absorb higher rates of pesticides). They often sit, lie and play on the ground where they easily come into contact with freshly applied pesticides or even the dust that is contaminated with pesticides.

Pregnant mothers at risk

A new study on glyphosate found in pregnant women’s bodies from Indiana confirms that this widely used herbicide ends up in people’s bodies. The findings also suggest that prenatal glyphosate exposure may be linked to shorter pregnancies and poorer pregnancy outcomes among women being treated for infertility.

Why SmartNute?

SmartNute duplicates the actions of phosphates for healthy blooms and root systems, replicating the actions of potash and nitrogen for healthy fruits and foliage — including the easy assimilation of water.

"Exposure can occur in agriculture, through the treatment of crops, plants and grain stores. It can occur in forestry, gardening, professional and domestic pest control and through the spraying and use of amenities e.g. our parks, pavements and playgrounds. Exposure can also occur through the treatment of wood with preservatives, the treatment of boat hulls with anti-fouling agents, and the treatment of livestock with anti-parasitic preparations, e.g. sheep dip etc. In addition, pesticide residues found on, and in, our food also puts us at risk." - Pesticide Action UK

SmartNute will save you time and money

Many plant food and fertilizer companies recommend 1 teaspoon of nutrients to one gallon of water, our plant food amplifier gives you 6-8 gallons of nutrient-water solution for that same 1 teaspoon.

That's SIX TO EIGHT TIMES more nutrient value than conventional fertilizers (not to mention a positive environmental result!)

Risks and challenges

Since 2014 we have worked to invest over 2,000 laboratory, soil, and aeroponic grow tests – totalling over 12,000 hours in R&D to establish SmartNute’s first marketable formula. We are now upping the ante and developing a more robust formula.

Did you know...Edison and his research team tested over 3,000 designs to develop his basic but famous lightbulb?

We’ve overcome evolving obstacles and challenges in the time we’ve spent inventing the world's first fully energetic plant food amplifier. One of our biggest challenges ahead is leveraging this opportunity to set the path for exponential growth. Our company growth includes developing a global team of technologists and creatives combined with an accomplished team of change agents. SmartNute’s co-founder and co-inventor, Lee Roberts, is relying on a strong network of top executives he's developed over the years to help meet our operational strategy, benchmarks, and goals. This is just the beginning of our blueprint to grow into a successful global branding and licensing organization to help revive our planet.

We’re taking big-ag head on, this is a BIG challenge and a tough road for us to pave - neutralizing the repercussions from big ag and big chemical companies won’t be easy. You will be instrumental in helping us successfully launch this project in order to reach our next marketing benchmark! Our biggest challenge going forward will be taking SmartNute global - We already know the levels of pesticide and fertilizer runoff are unbelievably unacceptable in America, but what about other countries? In the Netherlands, pesticides levels are 4X more than in America, in China 5X, in the Bahamas 27X, and so on around the world. This problem is getting worse, not better.

In 1962 Rachel Carson picked up the torch and published the best seller “Silent Spring”, exposing some of the atrocities that Big Ag has forced on both our planet and humanity. Our ecosystems are at a perilous tipping point worldwide. We're ready to carry the torch with Ms. Carson’s work at the forefront of our minds in order to make a tangible and positive difference on a global scale.

We've already proven SmartNute can help reduce pesticide use and help balance our ecosystems. So, with your heart invested in our planet and our children's future, we can make this happen together.

We're ready for your help today!

Sincerely,
The SmartNute Team
